I am a recent graduate from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education and Mathematics. I am a hardworking and dedicated individual who strives for nothing but the best and nothing short of what I reach for. I was born and raised in Woodstock, Georgia and traveled to Michigan to attend Eastern Michigan University for school as a way to branch out and take a risk beyond my comfort zone. While there, I set myself up to finish the Teacher Education Program within 4 years, and I continued to push hard to maintain my 3.97 GPA as I finished strong. I have now moved to Texas and hold a Texas Standard Certificate for Mathematics 4-8. I have taken many courses in a variety of subjects and the methods on how to teach them making me a great candidate as a tutor.

I am passionate about helping students because I believe in the transformative power of education. My goal is to empower students to realize their potential and to inspire them to approach learning as an exciting and rewarding journey. Education opens doors to opportunities and can dramatically improve a student's life, and I am committed to being a guide and support system throughout that journey. With over 18 years of experience in education, I have worked as a math teacher, interventionist, and administrator. My extensive background has given me a broad perspective on how students learn and what strategies are most effective in helping them succeed. I've worked with students from diverse backgrounds, helping them overcome challenges, refine their skills, and reach their academic and personal goals. Whether working one-on-one with students to provide individualized support or designing engaging learning experiences for larger groups, my experience has taught me the importance of fostering a positive and supportive learning environment. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Education with a certification in Mathematics, as well as a Master's degree in Instructional Design and Technology. These qualifications have provided me with a strong foundation in effective teaching strategies, curriculum development, and instructional leadership. I am particularly skilled in helping students succeed in subjects like math, as I believe math offers students a unique opportunity to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I love math and making it easy to learn. I try to use real-world problems to make the content relatable and to help students see how math applies in everyday situations, making it easier to understand. The subjects I tutor include mathematics (K-12), test preparation, study skills, and academic planning. Math is my favorite subject to tutor because I love watching students develop their confidence in a subject that many find challenging. There is something incredibly rewarding about helping a student who is struggling with a concept gain that "aha" moment and build the skills they need to continue progressing. My teaching philosophy centers around creating a student-centered learning environment where each student feels valued, supported, and capable of success. I believe in adapting my approach to fit each student's individual needs and learning style, whether that means providing more hands-on practice, visual aids, or breaking complex topics down into manageable steps. My tutoring style is patient, encouraging, and focused on helping students build a strong foundation for independent learning. Outside of academia, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and playing golf. These activities help me maintain a balanced perspective and bring a sense of joy and relaxation that I carry with me into my professional life. I also value personal growth and continually seek opportunities to learn new things, both within and outside of education.

I am a graduate of Eastern Michigan University in the Aviation technology major. That program resulted in me becoming a certified flight instructor as well as earning a degree! I am truly passionate about helping people reach their highest possible levels as when I was going through grade school I had an undiagnosed learning disability. Throughout the years I found ways to improve my academic performance and helping others through their personal situations is incredibly rewarding! I initially was working towards a degree in Biology but ended up joining the military and developing a passion for aviation, as such I do have a strong understanding of biology. Everybody deserves to not just pass their classes but hopefully come out of the experience with a functional understanding of the subject matter. I will do everything I can to make that happen!

I believe that every student is capable of obtaining knowledge in any given field. Everyone has a class or field that they naturally struggle in (mine is art), but enough time for extra thought and effort will make your goals in the class achievable. I enjoy helping provide that effort and achievement. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor's of Science in Actuarial Science & Economics in April/2014, and graduated from DePaul University with a Master's of Science in Applied Mathematics. I currently work for the Bureau of Labor Statistics as an Economist.I always liked using numbers to quantify and interpret certain problems; strange to some I know.I will be glad to tutor anyone in courses that require math and/or economic reasoning. Asking why and how a problem is done instead of just asking for the answer is what I'm looking for in a student. I can be of assistance for the whole semester or just for a test coming up for the class. As long as we are scheduling time to ask why and how to approach the problems, I am on board.

My goal as a tutor is to improve the academic achievement of students through encouraging scholarly and personal progress.I maintain that listening to the student in order to asses problem areas within a subject is the best way to establish a working partnership in the effort to support scholarly achievement. I strongly encourage my students to set goals so that they can personally measure their academic progress and improvement.

Are you interested in my experiences teaching or tutoring experiences??? Would you like to hear the story of my backyard classroom when I was 10 years old? Naw! Boring! That is history.I have been teaching and/or tutoring since my student days at Eastern Michigan University. Topics included English literature, writing, and reading. For Middle School topics included social studies and language arts. For High School it was literature, reading and grammar. And for College it was tutoring students in a variety of majors.Washington State University provided a Master's in teaching adults. Those teaching experiences have been the best of all worlds and the worst. The best experience for a teacher or tutor is being granted the opportunity to help a person grow in his/her skills. Observing the growth in confidence cannot be beat as a best experience for any tutor. The worst experience for a tutor or teacher is watching a student struggle, but refuse help. If you are asking for help you deserve an award. My job as a tutor is to tackle with you that pesky topic that is presenting problems. And did I mention have a good time? If you want more background information ask for my resume. I am ready to work with you to improve your skills.

I received my Certificate in Web Design from Oakland Community College, an Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design from the Art Institute and a Bachelor of Science in Communication Technology from Eastern Michigan University. My main specialty of tutoring falls under the category of graphic and web design in subjects such as HTML, CSS, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, After Effects and other adobe programs, however I am also able to tutor in some Math. My approach to tutoring is that I try to appeal to the individual I'm teaching, and try to explain it in a way that appeals to said learning style, if I'm tutoring someone that learns better with visuals then I will be using more pictures and other visual aids, while as someone who prefers reading I can simply read to them by the book. I am a firm believer that programing is the future, and I hope that I can teach my skills in such fields to those children so they can have a bright successful future. As a teacher, I believe that all children are good. With positive guidance and positive learning experiences, children have the opportunity to display their best qualities. Although some students may not have the same capabilities as another, each should be give equal opportunities in the classroom and school environment. Individual as well as group planning is necessary to account for a multiple of learning strategies. Critical thinking and hands on experience are important in facilitating learning. I love educating and especially educating in non-traditional environments. If you spoke to my former students I am sure they would have stories to tell of outdoor classes before social distancing was a thing! I love to be a learner with my students.Growing up in the wilds of Northern Saskatchewan and for a time without power or plumbing has given me a creative and pioneering spirit.I love to unlock what motivates each student for their own success. When you "own it" you can do it! There are more than a thousand ways to learn but none of it is possible without personal ownership. You own it, and I will work hard to give whatever tools I can!Another way to say it. If you have a "why" you will be motivated for the "how".I received my formal education in several schools over several States. I began with Philosophy at Magdalene College in New Hampshire, I studied education at Eastern Michigan University, and I went on to study Theology at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. The subjects I am passionate about are History, Writing, Philosophy, and Theology.
