I have always valued education and learning and have excelled in those areas from an early age. Having earned a masters degree, I have discovered the key aspects of learning because, as most graduates will tell you, a master's degree is an education in how to think. Consequently, I feel that I have also gained the skills needed to be an effective teacher or tutor. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with anyone in need and especially with children. As any good tutor knows, its important to understand how a tutee learns best and make an effort to adapt to that. I look forward to being able to help eager young people find their path to excellence in education.

I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC with several degrees. I have an AAS in Fashion Design and a BS in Marketing and Communications. Though it may seem like my degrees are removed from being a teacher, teaching has always been woven through my professional and now personal lives. I began my collegiate journey as a major in English Literature, with hopes of segueing into a degree in Journalism. I have always had a profound love of writing and everything ELA. But I chose my other love of fashion design and made a career of it for nearly twenty years. During my years in the industry, I directed reports from two to ten at a time. I had team members who were sometimes completely new to the business to those who were veterans. Regardless, I always had something to teach, whether it was a technical skill, a process or a short cut to do their job more efficiently. I now have two beautiful sons which being pregnant with my first son coincided with me leaving the fashion industry. For many of the years since, I have been a stay at home mom and intimately involved with both of my sons academic as well as enrichment pursuits. During the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years I became even more involved as nearly every parent in this country had to do during the height of the shut downs to Covid-19. My younger son, who is now 6, spent many hours with me learning to read and do basic math functions. We even made time to learn a little bit of Spanish and Korean! I know I would be able to tutors any topic around ELA whether it's writing, grammar or reading. I love expressing myself through words and am excited when young minds also start their writing journey. Currently, I have a start-up business as a financial coach, so teaching the very beginnings of financial literacy is very exciting to me as well. I think the earlier kids can learn this practical skill set the better they will prepare themselves for financial success. I definitely meet children where they are, and find that the best curriculum allows itself to be flexible. It's important to identify the children as individuals and that not every child will connect with the curriculum in the same way or speed as others. I am an avid reader of course, but I also love movies, music and attending sporting and enrichment events my sons are involved with. It's incredibly important that I show or teach my boys something new everyday. To have a day go by that you haven't learned something or didn't bring joy in some way is a day wasted.

I have a wide range of cultural background, born in Beijing, China, and growing up in Nagoya, Japan. I have also lived in Florence, Italy for a year studying fashion design, and lived in NYC for over 12 years being a fashion designer. I have moved to Portland, Oregon 2 years ago and loving the closeness with nature surroundings and the beautiful forests here.I'm passionate about languages and sharing different cultures, I also enjoy being creative and spend time doing my art projects. I have many experiences teaching languages and I'm very patient and flexible, so I have great confidence that I can help you in many ways to meet your needs.

I'm a graduate student at the Fashion Institute of Technology studying Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory, Museum Practice. I received my associate's degree in Fashion Business Management and my bachelor's degree in Art History and Museum Professions from the same university. I've volunteered for many years at Brookside Elementry School, working primarily with kindergarten and third grade, as well as independent 1:1 work with undergraduate students. I am most passionate about English, Literature, and History due to my academic background, but I have experience in a variety of subjects. I graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology, the State University of New York in 1987. I received my Bachelor of Science in Marketing. I worked in the Fashion Industry in New York City for many years. More recently, I have acquired eight years of experience working as a Paraprofessional in a public school, focusing on students with learning disabilities. I have also worked in a general education setting with students in grades K-5. Currently, I work as a substitute teacher for Swing Education, ESS, and Wayne Public Schools. I also serve as an independent contractor, tutoring students online through Varsity Tutors, TutorGigs, and Cignition. I also worked for VIPKid, teaching Chinese learners how to speak English. It brings me great joy to watch students progress. I can adapt lessons to be fun and entertaining for students by adding games and rewards or I can teach straightforward and serious, adapting to each class's style and comfort level. I can scaffold a lesson up or down to practice what the students need most. I believe that children learn in different ways I will work hard to find the best method for my students. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, reading, yoga, and spending time with my family, my dogs, and my friends at my vacation home in Southern New Jersey.

I graduated with a business degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in Manhattan. I spent 3 years of my time at FIT tutoring writing and English to students and faculty (mostly on curriculum).With students, I focused heavily on college essay writing, admissions essays, resume and cover letter building and improvement, scholarship applications, and personal writing. All of the students I helped with college admissions essays and scholarship essays have gained entry into their desired programs, and/or have received the scholarships for which they applied!The skill level of my students ranged from rudimentary to scholarly - I am happy to work with any student, no matter their level!I even studied abroad in Hong Kong for a semester and was part of the English Club on my campus. That was a great experience!When I graduated from FIT, I spent some time tutoring high school English and writing, as well as test prep at tutoring/mentoring start-up in NYC. It was interesting to take my college tutoring skill-set and begin to teach high school students.I have additional experience as a professional writing consultant, for individuals who aren't looking for academic help. I am also an editor of an online magazine, where I help guide and oversee staff writers' contributions and post articles myself from time-to-time!I'm excited to work with students on this platform and help them take their English writing and grammar from good to great! I'm also excited to make deep connections with the amazing students that come here to learn!

I originally went to NYU for my BA majoring in Journalism and Economics and minoring in Business. While there, my team also won a grant for Social Entrepreneurship which sparked the passion for ethical business that I am currently perusing at FIT with a certificate in Sustainable Design. In high school I tutored middle school math and taught ballet in the summer and in college I took a class where we tutored ESL students in reading. I am so excited to share my love of math (I was even on the math team), reading and writing with students!

This May, I graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in Illustration, as well as having obtained an Associate's. I have had five years of art studies, but it was when I was a child that I became interested. I have been in love with art since preschool and it was my wonderful teachers and tutors growing up that encouraged me to continue doing what I love for the rest of my life, which is anything art related. I would also love to encourage kids of all ages to have fun with art because it is an amazing way to learn about the world, as well as creatively express ourselves. I have three years of experience as being a camp counselor and I have always had so much fun talking to children because the passion for the subjects that we are learning together always comes out and makes moments memorable. In my spare time, I enjoy planting flowers inside and painting subjects that inspire me.
