I am originally a Miami native. I was blessed to have attended schools that had principals who would push my schoolmates and me to work harder and to be better. I aim to be this type of principal, and more. There are students who have never been told they can be anything they want in this world, they have never heard the phrase there is no limit. I want to make sure they hear it. While in Miami I worked in low-income middle schools and high schools as a substitute and an interventionist. I also tutored middle and high school students in the foster care system. I focused in middle school math, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, biology, ACT and SAT. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue a Master of Public Administration degree. I graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and I use its philosophies daily. I feel the education gave me the tools to move around society more consciously aware of why others think, feel, and behave the way they do. I have always loved kids. At each point in my life I have mentored someone younger than me, whether they be friends, family, or community. I want to change the world, and I feel the most effective way to do that is to open the minds of the next generation. So I enjoy teaching students new things; it is as if every drop of knowledge gives them a whole new perspective of the world.

A little about myself: I am currently a High School Science Teacher at Eustis High. I teach Environmental and Forensic Science. I graduated from Florida International University with a BS in Marine Biology. For about five years I worked with Dr. Joel Trexler and Dr. Kevin Boswell working on the spatio-temporal patterns in the distribution, behavior, and foraging of fish in the Everglade canals using advanced fisheries sonar techniques. I inherited my project from a graduated MS student and my senior thesis was responsible for the previously overlooked role of submerged vegetation and structural complexity on predator prey interactions. I bring a lot of my research experience in to the classroom. My main goal is to teach so that there is understanding and comprehending among the students, and not just memorizing.I love teaching! I believe that education is the best weapon we can arm ourselves with. I will do my best to teach you the material that you need to know in manner that you will understand and remember beyond a test or a class.

I have had the honor of working for Florida International University (FIU) for the past 14 years. I have held administrative roles throughout those years that supported students' academic success in pursuing their undergraduate and graduate degrees. I am fondly proud of the years of experience and success I've gained while working in academia and STEM education, including academic advising, undergraduate and graduate medical education, and higher education program planning and development. My desire to open doors for underrepresented students who have high hopes of entering professional fields and may not have the advantages of doing it on their own is the driving force behind my ability to maintain success in many of the positions I have held in academia.I obtained my BA in Public Administration from Florida International University in 2011 and completed my Master's in Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Organizations and Community Development in August 2019. As a native of Miami, I have had the opportunity to work in higher education for over 14 years in administrative roles that support students' academic success in pursuing their graduate degrees. After completing my undergraduate degree, I began working as the Graduate Senior Secretary for the Biology department at FIU. I worked directly with the Program Director and Dean for the College of Arts & Sciences in various areas, including admissions, graduate school support, and student academic success. In 2014, I transitioned into the medical education discipline as the assistant to the Vice Dean for Medical Education and Student Affairs at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University. In this role, I coordinated the medical school's entire accreditation process, curriculum development, faculty affairs, and Graduate Medical Education. Soon after, I returned to FIU and began as Student Affairs Program Coordinator at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. In this position, I facilitated program planning and development for medical student wellness and academic support. After a year in that role, I became the Program Coordinator for the Office of Diversity & Inclusion at the medical school, developing and promoting programs and services designed to enhance the intersectionality of the medical schools' college community. Throughout my service in academia, many of my successes include the program development of the pipeline program, the Florida Scientific Training and Research (STAR) program; a multi-year academic and social enrichment program developed to prepare undergraduate minority students for a career in medicine, and the facilitation of a fundraising event that raised over $10,000 in scholarship for students historically underrepresented in medicine. In addition, I coordinated the National Pre-Faculty Career Development Conference for Trainees and Faculty, which brought together trainees, faculty, and senior leaders to share activities and best practices to better prepare college, graduate, and post-doctoral professionals to consider pursuing careers as educators and researchers in the STEM field.

While I was attending FIU I worked as a Peer-Led Tutoring Leader at MDC, where I guided and mentored students who struggled with mathematics, chemistry, and biology. I also enhanced my interpersonal, communication, and team-building abilities and improved my leadership skills. I studied at Florida International University and received both my bachelor's and master's degrees of science in the field of nutrition and dietetics. I knew since my teenage years that nutrition was my absolute passion in life. The path of nutrition and dietetics was a doorway into a whole world of opportunity and I want to share that with as many people as possible. Every nutrition class I took made me all the more engrossed by all the possibilities of being a registered dietitian nutritionist. I am happy to report I am a certified registered dietitian! I know firsthand how hard it can be to learn new topics. I spent many hours teaching myself through undergrad and grad school. Most of the time, hour-long lectures didn't do anything to help me understand. Therefore, I'd spent several hours going through the material by myself, breaking down the subjects in a way that I could understand. I believe one of the best ways to learn is to have real-life examples that actually relate to you. Thank goodness nutrition is filled with a ton of real-life examples! This is why it would be an honor to share my joy of nutrition with you.
