When I was young, I struggled with school. I was more focused on my performance on the sports field than I was on my performance in the classroom. My love of learning came only after I spent several summers being tutored by fantastic teachers who helped me develop connections to the material in a way that was both relatable and fun. I learned the value of great educators those summers, and I came to appreciate the importance of strong communication between the student and educator.I received my Bachelor of Arts degrees in Government and Spanish from Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania and went on to receive a Master of Arts degree in Latin American Studies, with a concentration in inter-American Affairs, from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Before moving to South Florida, I spent seven years in Washington, D.C. working in international affairs, as well as in government advocacy and public policy. I look forward to helping you with Spanish Language and Literature, History and Government, or Writing and English Language. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy playing sports, staying active, and finding fun, new recipes to cook.My goal as a tutor is not only to help you understand the material, but also to help you develop your own unique learning tools to benefit your long-term educational growth.

I recently received my masters at the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University, and I grew up in Washington, D.C. I went to college at Georgetown University and have loved reading and writing my entire life. While I enjoy tutoring all kinds of essay skills, english literature is my favorite. I love poetry, plays, and fiction classics -- everything from Shakespeare to Shelly! My dad is a lawyer, and has taught me the value of strong argumentation skills. I have published everything from short stories to journalistic articles, in my college paper or at The New York Times. Most students come to me for my encouraging spirit and fun attitude because I always want to make learning a positive experience. Writing an essay or dissecting a book really boils down to the art of storytelling -- and I think, no matter your age, we all can appreciate to the transformative power of stories. Not everyone finds their words easily, and some even feel ashamed to take time to express themselves. But I was a ballet dancer for ten years, and I think my rigor, determination, and sense of balance passes on to my students. I like to explore the city with my friends, see a play on the weekend, or take a book to central park for an afternoon of reading.

I am a graduate from Georgetown University, where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics with a minor in Music. I'm currently pursuing a Master's of Science in Business Analytics at Carnegie Mellon University. I've been tutoring since I started high school, focusing on mathematics and writing. Throughout my college career I was employed both privately and by Georgetown University to tutor peers and high school students in the Washington, D.C. area. I worked with students taking classes in all levels of mathematics falling under Algebra, Calculus, Combinatorics, and Problem Solving.I've always been passionate about mathematics. With a strong academic background in English and writing, I communicate abstract mathematical ideas in a way that is best suited to each of my students' needs. At some point in the (hopefully) near future, I'd like to go to back to school in order to then work full-time as a college professor of mathematics.Aside from academics, I'm passionate about music and soccer. I've been a guitarist for most of my life, and am eager to pick up and learn about any instrument I can get my hands on. I've also played soccer for about as long as I can remember. Most recently, I play in pickup leagues around Pittsburgh. In college, I was fortunate enough to captain the Georgetown University Men's Club Soccer team for two years.Thank you, and best of luck in your academic endeavors!

Learning requires active involvement and attentively engaging with the material. This process can be at times frustrating and challenging, but ultimately a gratifying feeling. Opening a text book and feeling the increasing anxiety as you flip through unknown pages of what can only be viewed as a new language can repress the learning process. Nearly everyone at one point in their life feels overwhelmed and demurred about a specific subject. This feeling push someone away from learning something new and truly affect their ability to grow. I can understand this and have dealt with this in my own learning process. As an aspiring physician and an avid science lover, I am interested in not only medical science, but also ecology, evolution, biotechnology, and other related fields. I recall the difficulty of wrapping my head around specific concepts in chemistry, physics, and biology classes. My early struggles were amplified by my lackluster enthusiasm to understand why even this knowledge was relevant. Often times I would feel disconnected with what I was learning. This issue affected my foundational knowledge in sciences and it took me time to realize that without understanding the basics it becomes seemingly impossible to incur further knowledge. It is evident that many concepts are a continuum and by building upon previous knowledge can help consolidate new information. I find this as a paradigm in my learning philosophy; to thoroughly understand an essential point before moving on to the next subject. By retaining the foundational knowledge, it is much easier to apply and visit new, complex, information. Moreover, I believe learning is parceled into various tasks from listening, reading, writing, practicing and ultimately teaching to fully understand and retain new information. This is known as the ‘learning pyramid’ and can be very useful as a template.I constantly apply the ‘learning pyramid’ throughout my studies, beginning with attentive hearing at the basic level and reinforcing the subject material by reading and writing notes. After I felt confident with handling the material, group discussions can help reconsolidate the details and further solidify the major points. I truly believe that group work, used correctly, can help facilitate comprehension. This strategy was useful during my masters at Georgetown University, an accelerated one year program, which focused on physiology and biophysics aligning with the medical school curriculum. I was able to excel in the system-based modules by utilizing a steady academic focus alone and supplemented with group discussions between 3 to 4 students. During these group discussions, I realized the influence of teaching my fellow peers on improving my own interpretation. This marked the beginning of my interests in tutoring, specifically subjects that I am enthusiastic about. These include chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and other science based subjects. My fellow group members and I would teach each other the material, we would practice explaining out individual thought process. This method enabled an active learning process with an emphasis on the main point plus important details. As a tutor, I would emphasize the major points and push my student to ask questions, be attentive, and then be able to successfully teach me. The learning process can be difficult at times, as I explained earlier, can push a student away from an interesting and exciting subject. My focus would be to improve the student’s knowledge about the topic by discussing why it is important and highlighting potential benefits of understanding the material. By enticing a student and tapping into their enthusiasm can evolve into a new found educational motivation. The best experience I can wish for is a student to learn something new, but also to apply learning strategies to other subjects and became a better academic scholar.

I am excited and ready to help your student with reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and/or literature study. For more than twelve years I taught English and language arts in grades 6 through 12 in public school and independent school. I prepared for teaching with an undergraduate degree in English from Georgetown University and a Masters in Arts from Boston University, focusing on English Secondary Education. Most recently, I taught sixth and seventh graders for five years at a local, prestigious independent school. Being a classroom teacher was extremely challenging and exciting, but I always wanted to have more time to work individually with students because they improve so much with that kind of personalized attention.I have lived and breathed improving students' reading, writing, and thinking for half of my life. What I have learned is that there is no one right way to teach all students. Everyone learns differently. Different methods, different materials, and different experiences capture young people's imaginations and can help them master the skills and materials. My teaching experience working with hundreds of students will enable me to do what is best for your student. I have children myself, and I know that personality plays a huge role in how we learn. I am excited to be a coach and cheerleader for your student to help him or her succeed.

I am a student at Georgetown University working towards a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management & Policy, and I plan to attend medical school after graduation with the goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. For the last few years I have been working as a tutor in a variety of subjects, mentoring students both in Washington, D.C. and my home state of New Jersey. Because of my educational background that combines the rigorous science of the pre-med curriculum and the myriad fields included in management and policy analysis, I can not only tutor several subjects, but also relate new or difficult topics to my students preexisting knowledge to improve understanding and conceptualization of the material. I have found that, with discipline and consistent effort, students are able to attain complete mastery of subjects they previously struggled with. Consequently, while the material itself is important, I also work with my students to develop productive routines and build consistency in their personal studying habits. I dedicate myself to my students success, and I am willing to work through any manner of difficulties with those students who put forth a determined effort. Lastly, I am flexible and willing to work with the varied schedules of my students, recognizing that there may be weeks where you must prioritize other endeavors. The majority of my educational background is in math and science but I have a solid understanding of subjects across the board. I really enjoy working with people to break up challenging concepts into small and digestible pieces. I know the value in one-on-one help when trying to understanding a topic that one might find difficult, and would be happy to be there to answer any and all questions.I have had informal tutoring experience, as well as jobs as a ski instructor and camp counselor working with kids. Additionally, my on-campus job is in tech support, and since they did all their own training the only real criteria for hiring was the ability to explain complicated processes in simple terms. Unfortunately, we were all sent home from Georgetown due to Corona, this I have a lot of spare time this semester and would love to spend it helping students who might need a little extra attention!I am currently studying physics and economics at Georgetown University. Both subjects, especially physics, require a high-level math understanding. Most importantly, the require one to be very confident in all previous math learned for a strong foundation to build upon for new concepts. I have always been told by teachers that my submitted explanations for problems done in their class were neat and easy to follow. As a side note, due to my course of study, I have long been the first message sent when my friends need help with any math involved in their classes. Please feel free to reach out if you would like any more information or to see if I would be a good fit. From my earliest high school years, I have had a passion for languages- studying Spanish, Italian, French, and German simultaneously by my senior year and continuing studies with Japanese and Russian before finishing high school. During high school, I tutored in Spanish and French.I received my BA from Georgetown University where I had begun my studies in the School of Languages and Linguistics and then later transferred to the College of Arts and Sciences to expand my studies to include International Economics and disciplinary studies via the Georgetown School of Foreign Service. During my undergraduate time, I lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I studied Political Science, International Economics, and Literature in addition to working in an International Consulting agency. I thrived during my time there socially and academically- researching for two theses to complete my undergraduate studies, with one in Spanish. During my time at Georgetown, I also studied Portuguese and tested at the high proficient level. Finally, I completed my Spanish certification while answering political science questions to a board of Spanish Faculty Professors- scoring the second highest level of fluency in Spanish with distinction for Foreign Service-Political Science knowledge. My Master's degree is in Latin American Studies from UCLA where I studied the economic, social and political science trends- specifically focusing on South America.Since graduating, I have been in sales- mostly commercial financial consulting and look forward to helping share experiences and mentoring in the same consultative style by learning strengths and challenges faced by each student and determining action plans to succeed together- not just teaching a lesson, but ensuring the lesson is active, engaged, and memorable to be enjoyed and lived thereafter.

I am passionate about helping students succeed because I believe education is a key to unlocking potential and achieving personal and professional goals. With a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Georgetown University and extensive teaching experience at the University of British Columbia, I have developed a robust skill set in linguistics, data analysis, and research methods. I have over six years of experience working with students, both as a lecturer and a lab manager, where I taught courses in data analysis, statistics, research methods, phonetics, phonology, and introduction to linguistics. I also provided one-on-one guidance to students on their research projects, helping them to understand complex concepts and develop their analytical skills. I tutor subjects including Linguistics, Data Analysis, Basic Statistics, R Programming, Data Visualization, Python Programming, and Research Methods. My favorite subject to tutor is Quantitative Linguistic data analysis because it allows me to explore the intricate ways language functions and is produced, which I find fascinating.

I am a recent mechanical engineering graduate student and I have a very strong background in mathematics. I received a perfect score on the math sections of the PSAT, SAT, ACT and GRE so I can certainly help you reach your goal on any standardized test of mathematics. In addition, I taught English as a second language to over one hundred students at a college in Taizhou, China prior to entering my graduate program in engineering, which helped me hone my teaching style in both ESL and Mathematics. I am a patient tutor who focuses on identifying the root causes of misunderstandings and correcting them so that the student can succeed in applying the learned concepts on new problems without my guidance.

I graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Government and from Fordham University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. I have ten years of experience as a volunteer and private tutor to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. I have tutored a variety of subjects ranging from math and science to standardized testing, but I especially enjoy tutoring in the areas of English, literature, and writing.I believe in creating a specialized tutoring plan to address the particular needs of my student. My emphasis is on creative (and hopefully fun) learning techniques that engage my student and help him or her confront problem-solving in a way that best suits his or her learning style. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading fiction, going to the movies, and spending time with my friends and family in the sunshine.

I have been an educator for 20 years now and am passionate about helping students understand and enjoy learning. My classrooms were places where students could bring their whole selves and discover new ways of approaching and solving problems. I'm a former high math teacher (Algebra and Geometry) and have worked with students across K-12. In addition, I have taught college access seminars and coached reading and writing teachers but my favorite thing to work on with students is math! I have an undergraduate degree from Georgetown in International Relations and an MBA from the College of William and Mary.
