I am a certified educator with over 13 years of experience in STEM education, engineering instruction, and curriculum design. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Howard University and a Master of Science in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Rutgers University. My teaching journey has taken me from the engineering industry to public schools, community colleges, and enrichment programs; where I've developed a passion for helping students build confidence through creative problem-solving and hands-on learning. I specialize in tutoring STEM and design subjects including AutoCAD drafting, 3D designs and printing, circuit design, TinkerCAD, Scratch coding, and academic support in math and science. I particularly enjoy teaching 3D design and creative technology, as these subjects empower students to turn their ideas into tangible outcomes and connect directly to real-world careers. I recently received a Bachelor's in Accounting from Howard University. I am currently pursuing a Masters in Accounting at the University of Michigan- Dearborn. In between time, I am also studying for the Certified Public Accountant Exam. I have traveled across the US and as far as China with my campus involvement. During my studies, I have also had the opportunity to tutor in various business areas such as: Accounting, Economics, Production Operations and Public Speaking. I have tutored in each subject one-on-one and in group settings. These are areas that I not only enjoy, but I am very passionate about. I love having the opportunity to give back to students, because I understand the importance education. I enjoy being interactive and talking through problems. It helps me to see what you know and where you need assistance. Outside of tutoring and school I enjoy watching television, shopping and working out.

I graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor's in Chemistry. Two years after that I moved to Indiana to pursue a combined degree: Master's in Biomedical Science as well as an Osteopathic Medical degree at Marian University. I am currently in medical school because it has always been my dream to become a physician who would bring hope and healing to my community. In addition to that, I have always had the passion for teaching and mentoring people. I discovered my gift of teaching in high school through the feedback of my peers after I would explain hard concepts in simple ways. The more I taught people, the better I got at explaining difficult concepts in easily digestible ways. By the time I got to college, the department of Chemistry selected me to become a department tutor in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. In the future, I see myself giving back to the education sector by teaching medical students when I become a physician.In my free time, I love hanging out with my friends and family, I love to watch movies and I love traveling.

I love learning which explains my passion for teaching. In high school, I decided that I would become a teacher. I am excited about learning new subjects and attaining new knowledge that I can use for life. As a teacher I can flip my excitement for learning into daily teaching practices. This keeps all my learning environments engaging and filled with edu-fun (educational fun).Now I have ten plus years of teaching experience. I have taught on the elementary, middle school, high school, and in special education classrooms. My favorite grades to teach are the first and second grades. I also really like teaching third and tenth graders.

I first started tutoring as a sophomore in high school, helping kids younger than me get through some of their tougher classes. When I was in college I continued tutoring after approached by my Biology and Chemistry professors. The one thing I enjoy most about tutoring is helping someone to achieve that breakthrough moment. Two heads are often better than one. When you get stuck on a particular concept, it's great to have someone who can help you out of that rut!

This tutor earned three degrees over the course of her career-- first she earned a BS degree in secondary English education from East Carolina University, with which she taught high school English for two years before returning to graduate school at her alma mater, ECU, where she then earned a Master's degree in technical and professional communication (English department), with which she contracted in industry with the IRS, HUD, and then ATF while earning her Ph.D. in African American literature, which was earned on full scholarship at Howard University. After teaching 16 years in the university setting, this tutor married and had two daughters and then joined them in the public school system, teaching at her older daughter's high school where her daughter graduated in 2022. This tutor is currently teaching in an alternative school setting, helping students who have fallen behind in academics, teaching in an accelerated academic program. This tutor tutors in reading, writing, grammar, and style. This tutor has always loved English and earned three degrees in English due to her love for reading and writing poetry, with which she published an award-winning collection based on the topic of her dissertation, William E. B. Du Bois, entitled: BROAD SYMPATHIES IN A NARROW WORLD: THE LEGACY OF W. E. B. DU BOIS. Concerning her teaching philosophy and tutoring style, her method of teaching is constructivist, which follows in the path of Dewey, Piaget, Vigotsky, and others. She avoids some kind of knowledge "out there" independent of the learner, especially in reference to poetry. She believes that the value in education is learning to think for oneself, to think critically. She avoids an authoritarian approach to teaching and seeks reflective activity, as Dewey terms it. She endeavors to be progressive and uses poetry in her classes to engage students to think about the process of composing, for the language of poetry is highly structured and condensed, and reading it effectively trains students to reflect analytically as well as critically. Outside of academia, she enjoys long walks for exercise with sprints of running when her body cooperates. She would like to return to her love for bicycling and swimming. Most of all, she loves teaching and seeing the light bulbs turn on when students finally understand complicated concepts. She currently takes classes at the local university to strengthen her teaching skills, as required by the state of Alabama and the Alabama reading initiative. She always endeavors to be the best teacher that she can be, for teaching is what she feels called to do.

I am a master's student at Brown University. I graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. While I tutor a wide variety of subjects, I am most passionate about Spanish, math, and English with over 5 years of teaching experience.
