Hi! My name is Mrs. Sard and I love to make learning enjoyable and fun for my students! I have been teaching for 3 years and am currently teaching 1st grade. We always have fun researching, writing stories, and playing math games. I am excited to help you learn!

My name is Philip Malin. I have my bachelor's degree in English and master's degree in education (magna cum laude). I am currently working as a professional English tutor at the college level. I love to work with students of all ages from all over the world, helping them to learn to enjoy speaking and writing in English. My Background: When I was in college as an English major, I was assigned by my professors to work one-on-one with my classmates of different nationalities to help them understand the English language and English literature. My first teaching position was working with preschool children through eighth graders in a Montessori school. I have used Montessori-style, hands-on teaching methods ever since, helping learners of all ages and abilities build up their strength and independence step by step. I discovered how to be patient, excited about learning, kind and encouraging. I also was a mentor and then assistant director for the Pennsylvania Governor's School for Excellence in Teaching. I trained and supervised 64 prospective teachers from all over Pennsylvania in the latest instructional methods. World Travel: I lived in Europe, Africa, the Philippines and England when I was growing up, and was exposed to many languages and people. As a tutor I have often been assigned students from other nationalities including Nepal, Puerto Rico, Japan, Ethiopia, Moldova, Ecuador, Pakistan, and even though I do not speak any of their languages fluently, I have the ability to help those students communicate well in English. I enjoy learning about other cultures and helping foreign students succeed in English. What I'm Like as a Tutor: I am extremely creativeI always have at least three ways in my back pocket to teach the same concept. I am constantly researching teaching methods, and creating customized materials and lessons to fit the needs of each student. I enjoy demonstrating learning aids to students, and providing them with these tools (flash cards, colored highlighters, planners, graphic organizers, online learning apps and more) Because of my art background and my natural speaking ability my lessons are usually illustrated. I make use of props, costumes, skits, songs, hands-on activities, memory tricks and Multiple Intelligence approaches to allow every style of learner to get what they need. When I work with groups of students, I ask open ended questions which have no wrong answers. I help everyone memorize each other's names and learn something special about them immediately. I play short, fun ice-breaker, team-building games in each session, and encourage interaction and participation. Understanding: My Masters was focused on personality types, (Introvert/Extravert, Sensor/Intuitive, Thinker/Feeler) so I have spent 30+ years making both shy students and outgoing students, emotional students and logical students, imaginative students and practical student successful in my classes. Why Choose Me? I want to inspire a love of learning because I love learning too! I am delighted when I see the "light bulb" go on over a student's head, when a new concept "clicks"! I especially am thrilled when a student can transfer a skill from my lessons into another area of their learning process. I believe each person has a unique voice. Learning to express yourself in your own language helps you to make your mark in this world. If it is writing, speaking, or sharing your ideas, I can help you find your voice and be proud of what you have to say. Students who work with me learn to believe in their abilities because I believe in them too! My English lessons are fun, interesting, creative and helpful. Schedule a lesson with me today and you will find that we will work well together to help you succeed!
I believe that every student can learn. It is up to me to help match my teaching style with their unique learning style. I look forward to helping your child grow as a learner.
I am a geoscientist with over 35 years of teaching and professional experience. During my career, I have been lucky enough to travel to nearly every state in the US, and dozens of foreign countries. What gets me most excited about the geosciences, is the diversity the Earth has to offer.
I studied Business at Harrisburg Area Community College and completed my Bachelor's in Management at the Millersville University of Pennsylvania. I have always been passionate about helping others, so I prayed to find ways to be of help. But, it was not until a few years ago that I realized I already had a way of tutoring and helping others get a better understanding of topics that they struggle with. I have been tutoring since I was in college (2015), and my passion has only grown over time. I tutor business courses, algebra, statistics, and English (writing, reading, etc.) Math has always been my favorite subject to tutor, simply because I love how students go from "I hate Math. Math sucks and is not strongest suit or favorite subject" to "Math is not so bad. You've changed my mind a little bit about Math. Now that I understand it, I think I want to take more classes." I am not a perfect tutor, if those exist, so I will make mistakes as we learn together. For all these reasons, I prefer students who want to learn vs. those who only want answers. If you are the latter, we will not be a great match and our sessions will be miserable. I have a very flexible method of teaching which is based on your needs. So let's go on this adventure together while we learn from each other.

I am a graduate of Millersville University with 20 years of experience teaching and tutoring students. I've worked with students of migrant families and am fluent in Spanish. I have also worked in and out of school buildings, online, and with parents and families to ensure the whole child receives a thorough education. I am a firm proponent of a family making a difference in a child's ability to learn and look forward to partnering with whatever support the student has to help him/her reach his/her full potential.
