After spending six years as a litigator (both civil and criminal), I now advise financial institutions, loan servicers, and investors of various size and complexity on issues related to risk and regulatory compliance. During my time in undergrad and law school, I honed in on my writing skills in preparation for entering the law--a field which continues to test your writing and adaptability on a daily basis. I also found ways to make studying both fun and productive to obtain the best results. I look forward to helping you reach your goals whether its improving your writing, finalizing that ever-important admissions essay, getting a better grade, or just helping you understand the real world application of your subject.
I graduated in from NC State in 2023 with a degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity. Not only does this give me the experience to tutor in all things computer science and software development related, but also gave me a solid background in upper-level math including all levels of Calculus. When it comes to tutoring I am very simple: if you need help understanding a specific topic, we will only focus on that topic; if you need help understanding a broader subject, then we will take a step back and look at the bigger picture together. If you are looking for help with specific coding languages, I can help with Java, Python, and JavaScript (along with HTML/CSS or frameworks).
I wanted the option of becoming an educator without limiting my career choices, so I earned my Bachelor's degree in Leadership from North Carolina State University, including a rigorous background in mathematics. In my years as a Project Manager, I applied my leadership skills, which, among other skills, honed my writing and grammar expertise. And, for over 1 decade now, I have been teaching mathematics at many levels, including roles as Mathematics Department Chair, Education Manager, Mathematics Lead Teacher, Math Specialist and Tutor. My superpower is that I am down to earth, musical (which is very related to math) and cool, so I can relate to my students, find out where they are, and then teach from there! So, contact me, and let's go!
I believe that students learn best through encouragement, examples, direct questioning, and visuals. I try to meet students where they are, and make sure they are comfortable around me no matter how much they know about the subject they are learning.I currently teach high school math, and in the past I have taught Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra 2, Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Math 2, Honors Math 3, and college Statistics. I have taught for the past 5.5 years, and have no plans of stopping any time soon! While in college I received a B.S. in Mathematics Education and a B.S. in Statistics, and then I went back to get an M.S. in Mathematics Education. I am comfortable teaching almost all high school math subjects. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with friends, traveling, walking my dog, reading new books, and trying out different recipes.
I am a graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education; a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Masters of School Administration and my doctorate in Educational Leadership and Supervision. My dissertation which was entitled, "Gender disparities in reading achievement in grades 3-5". Growing up I developed a love for education by witnessing my mother teach and help students in the neighborhood. I knew when I was in kindergarten that I wanted to be a teacher and in 1992 upon graduating from college I was afforded the opportunity to become a teacher in the county in which I lived as a child. I was a teacher for 19 years, prior to becoming an assistant principal and principal. I served as an assistant principal and principal for 8 years before taking a position as Director of Curriculum & Instruction/Title I and Chief Academic Officer. I retired in June of 2023 after completing 31 years of service in education. I knew when I retired that it would be hard to just stop. I have always had a desire to help students learn and be successful. I believe that students learn differently and as educators we have to adapt our teaching to meet their individual needs.
