I graduated from NC State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. I aspired to become a veterinarian. After struggling in my entry-level Chemistry and calculus classes but excelling in history, English, and Literature classes, I realized that my gifts were in these areas as opposed to science and higher math. I also realized that teaching was my calling after earning my teaching certification from UNC-Charlotte. However, I love science! Although I was initially certified in Biology, my first teaching position was teaching physical science. I LOVED IT! I am a senior student at North Carolina State University, majoring in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Materials Science and Engineering. Even though what I am pursuing at the university is not directly related to teaching, I love tutoring/teaching. Ever since I was in high school I would tutor all of my friends in all of the subjects they were struggling with. As it turned out, I am good at tutoring so I kept doing it to help my friends; I came to the conclusion that I am good at it because all the people I have tutored have said so but mostly because I compared how they would perform when I tutored them vs when other people tutored them, and my students would always do better when I tutor them. This kind of made me feel like, if I am really good at it and can help people do good and learn, then, I should. I tutor a variety of subjects going from Spanish to subjects in the sciences, math, and engineering. I do not have a set teaching style; I think every person learns in a different way, so as a tutor I am always trying to be flexible to teach in a way that is easiest for my students to learn and understand the material.

I completed my undergraduate education in Animal Ecology and Forestry at Iowa State University in 2010. While a student at Iowa State, I assisted numerous graduate students with wildlife research projects and even developed my own project on the vegetative cover used by jackrabbits. I received my Master of Science degree in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology from North Carolina State University in March of 2013. My thesis involved studying the impact of spring and summer prescribed fire in forest management on wild turkey nest survival. The field of Biology is thrilling to me, from cell replication to plant and animal physiology and especially ecosystem-level processes. Through my experiences in Biology and Environmental Science, however, I have learned to appreciate and thoroughly enjoy math as well.
