Since high school, I've always had a passion for both teaching and mathematics, and the more I learn about both the more passionate I become. I was inspired by my high school math teacher, Mr. Byan, who displayed such a love of learning and teaching that it became infectious, and I hope to spread his joy for the subject and the appreciation of mathematics' profound beauty.I'm working towards an undergraduate degree in math, and hope to pursue a graduate degree afterward. I've been teaching since my first year of undergrad, and ever since I've looked for ways to continue -- through my personal and professional life.I think that the standard education system does a horrible job at teaching mathematics and often leaves students feeling like they're memorizing formulas. Real math is all about the journey to the answer, but grade school math is far too focused on just the answer.However, I feel strongly students should rarely have to memorize anything, and the ideas presented to students should always be motivated and explained so they understand the why and the what. I've found in my own experience teaching, too, that motivating the answer to a problem gives students a greater desire to learn as well as a deeper understanding, and it develops critical thinking skills.

Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is a difficult but hopefully rewarding experience. Along the way, I have taken many mathematics courses, and some are still looming in the distance. However, I have found that I have a knack for many of the mathematical coursework thus far. So I stepped into the world of tutoring upon recommendation from my Calculus professor. I have since taken great joy in helping peers understand mathematics. I take pride in lucidly explaining problems and seeing the "aha" moment unfold in their eyes. I find that explaining problem-solving procedures works best when tying coursework to real-world examples and analogies, and my students/clients seem to agree.

My goal is to help students break down the wall that is so often built up against certain subjects. Everyone hits the "wall" at different ages and when most students do begin to struggle, they often say, "well I'm just not good at" whichever subject they are struggling with. I do not believe this is true. I think that sometimes students struggle because each person thinks in a unique way and sometimes the conventional ways subject matter is taught is not compatible with one's thinking. With an undergraduate math and biology degree and while I am pursuing a PhD in Biomathematics, I do know that there are several ways to approach each type of problem; you just have to find what works for you. I am here to share the "tricks" and think outside of the box for those who struggle to understand subjects when taught in a conventional classroom setting. I have hands-on experience tutoring college and high school level math such as Algebra I&II and Calculus I,II& Multivariable Calculus. Through my thesis work I have published peer reviewed papers on statistical methods and have tutored countless students in Statistics. I also have experience teaching high school and college level Chemistry classes from when I was a Teaching Assistant in college. In this position I would run labs and hold lectures and study sessions rather than just observe and grade assignments. I also understand those who have a packed schedule and I have learned how to manage academics, work, athletics, and a social life successfully by pairing my heavy course load in college with teaching assistant positions and being a collegiate athlete. This also allows me to coach students on time management and organization.

Hello! I'm Erintrude, a recent graduate of Kenyon College and an MFA candidate at NCSU. I have two years of experience tutoring elementary level reading and writing for two different families, and miscellaneous tutoring experience in the fields of French, English and Test Prep (SAT and ACT). As a co-founder and head editor of a publishing press at my college, for a year and a half I have run workshops where I assigned contemporary literature, and taught these pieces to deepen reader's comprehension. Currently I am teaching a class of high schoolers in a summer program offered by the publishing press. I have experience with World Literature and translation studies as well. I'm passionate about language and I'm passionate about understanding. I was a teacher for 19 years, prior to becoming an assistant principal and principal. I served as an assistant principal and principal for 8 years before taking a position as Director of Curriculum & Instruction/Title I and Chief Academic Officer. I retired in June of 2023 after completing 31 years of service in education. I knew when I retired that it would be hard to just stop. I have always had a desire to help students learn and be successful. I believe that students learn differently and as educators we have to adapt our teaching to meet their individual needs.

I graduated from Hillsdale College in Michigan with majors in History and Latin. Currently I am working on my Master's degree in Public History and North Carolina State University.
