In terms of credentials, I have a Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). My main area of academic focus was in biomaterials, which includes (but is not limited to) the study of cell biology, design and use of biological implants, and the design and delivery of drugs. I also pursued some undergraduate research in the area of Biocomputation, which involved utilizing algorithms to simulate biological processes. I also worked as a laboratory teaching assistant for Physics II for two years which involved working with a laboratory section of over 40 undergraduate students of various majors as well as helping to staff designated tutoring sessions for the course material, and briefly as a one-on-one Biomechanics tutor for a few months. I also participated in a few outreach programs (with RPI's Biomedical Engineering Graduate Council) which aimed to get young children involved and interested in science. I also studied the fundamentals of computer programming and data structures during my senior year of university, and have had an interest in programming ever since.Outside of academics, I've been playing the bass guitar since I was 15, with two years of receiving formal instruction. I love playing Squash as well as Soccer (though not as well as the former, plus RIP USMNT but at least Poland qualified), and I also enjoy jogging as well. I also like to both read and write sci-fi, fantasy, and non-fiction currently. My favorite movie is Blade Runner, and no, I have not seen the sequel yet.In terms of my own philosophy on education and my potential role in it, I believe that at the bare minimum, a high school diploma is a key requirement for one to be able have success in the adult world. I believe that I have the potential (through the knowledge I have obtained and my ability to problem solve) to help students in need work towards achieving that end goal, and more should they desire. So, that's why I'm here.

The smartest thing Albert Einstein ever said, with all due respect to his many accomplishments, is, "If you can' explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." That phrase has served as the model of my education and instruction. If I know it, I can teach it. Luckily, I have had the opportunity to learn a great many things quite well enough.I have been tutoring peers and pupils in excess of 10 years. Teaching others is an activity I have naturally found to be rewarding, challenging and a lifelong pursuit. I have been helping others starting with my older brother's math homework in seventh grade, to getting friends through the AP Physics test, and finally, to this day, helping my mom with fractions while she bakes. In more recent years, I have been thoroughly engaged with tutoring during my college career. I have served as a tutor for a number of courses and subjects, both privately and in groups. I was a member of the Math Mentor program, instructing and testing multiple classes on fundamental mathematical skills. I have served as a Teacher's and Lab Assistant for several physics courses, both introductory and high level. In addition, I spent a year as a live-in Learning Assistant in a Freshman Residence Hall teaching study skills, time management, and other learning techniques. When it comes down to it, if it has to do with math, science or computers, I can help you learn it in your own way and in your own time.
I am a current sophomore at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where I am majoring in Biology as part of the 7 Year Accelerated Medical Program. I am also minoring in Healthcare Economics and Policy. My favorite subjects in school are Chemistry, Biology, and Math, but I also enjoy the process of writing and editing thought provoking essays. During high school, I spent time tutoring for the National Honor Society. My approach to tutoring is to teach the concepts in a simplistic manner and reinforcing the concepts while adding difficulty through effective practice problems. In my free time, I have recently found myself reading, working out, drawing, and spending time with my siblings.
I am a senior chemical engineering major at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I love to help people improve their skills in STEM fields and to help them apply what they learn.
I studied Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and will be pursuing my master's in Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech with a focus on spaceflight. At RPI, I tutored for 3 years, primarily in Introduction to Engineering Analysis (statics) and Strength of Materialstwo of the most challenging introductory courses in the curriculum. Many of the students I've worked with have gone on to earn As in these courses. I have a strong background in math, especially calculus, and in physics with a focus on mechanics. I love tutoring because I enjoy helping others work hard to achieve their goals. I've taught in both one-on-one and group settings, which has helped me learn to adapt to different learning styles and refine my communication skills. My teaching style focuses on working through examples with students until they feel comfortable tackling problems independently. I encourage them to ask questions as they go, and when needed, I like to step back and revisit the core concepts to ensure they truly understand the materialnot just how to solve a particular problem. Outside of academics, I enjoy sports, weightlifting, and spending time outdoors.
As a recent graduate in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a passionate mathematician, I am looking to share my insight and passion through tutoring students. I strive to add fun to subjects that are usually seen as bland or less than exciting, and create a positive learning atmosphere for each student to grow and prosper in.My tutoring and education experience stems from 7 Winters' worth of skiing and snowboarding instruction, with a specialty in childhood and adolescent education (ages ranging from 4-16). I have been able to refine my teaching techniques through hundreds of lessons, and hold a highly positive track record with clients, students, and fellow instructors. Working as an instructor, I feel the best when I see my students working on their skills after the lesson on the mountain and seeing them, their friends, and their family have fun.I have previously tutored on two separate occasions as well. Recently, I was tutoring a third-grade student in all of her subjects, working on effective studying, review, and homework help. Previously I tutored a first-year college student in Chemistry I, helping her transform from a struggling student to a success story through careful and patient review of the materials and implementing relevant real-world applications into my work.I would be honored to tutor you or your budding student, and have a great day!
I am currently a first-year medical student.I decided to pursue this difficult and lengthy path only after facing several challenges along the way. Throughout my childhood and my high school career, test-taking always seemed to be a challenge. I pushed to get the best scores I could, but something was wrong. I had a lack of direction. I needed a mentor. When I had my first mentor, I wasn't sure he would be the right one. We worked together for some time, but some of his characteristics were not compatible with my liking. After about two more mentors, I finally selected an intelligent, organized, and serious mentor that was heavily invested in my success. To have a mentor that is invested in your success is a fantastic feeling. Suddenly, my motivation increased, my grades improved and I was accepted into very good colleges and programs. That was my goal. I couldn't reach that goal without my mentor. My mentor taught me more than just English, Writing, ACT/SAT, he taught me humility, determination, and confidence. For these reasons, I am still in contact with him today. As a tutor-- mentor-- I will help my mentee achieve their goals (academic and mental). I will work with them hour by hour to the best of my ability to deliver what is necessary to achieve their goals. Education matters and your knowledge is tested through your scores, so they matter. The only way to win is through effective collaboration, mental determination, and hard work. I want to work with my mentee to figure out what I can do for him or her.
I am an enthusiastic and adaptable tutor who is passionate about helping students build confidence and truly understand the material they are learning. With a strong academic background in biology and scientific research, I am skilled at breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps and tailoring explanations to each individual's learning styles. My leadership and mentorship experience has taught me how to motivate students to create a supportive environment where questions and mistakes are encouraged. I prioritize clear communication and structured problem-solving with the goal of helping students develop lasting confidence and effective learning habits.
My background in mechanical engineering and PhD has given me extensive experience working through complex technical and analytical problems. Throughout my career, I've often helped others understand challenging engineering concepts by breaking them down into clear, manageable steps. My tutoring philosophy focuses on building understanding rather than just getting to the answer. I enjoy helping students develop the problem-solving mindset that engineering requires and guiding them through.
Hello, my name is Yosef and I would be happy to serve as a math tutor. I place strong emphasis on a good balance between knowledge of mathematical content and proficiency in problem-solving, reasoning, and conveying mathematical ideas in writing. There are times when a student needs to be informed of a solution, times when he or she also needs to hear the explanation of why the solution works, and times when he or she should be guided to finding the solution on his or her own. It is important for the tutor to recognize which approach is appropriate. Frequently, when students struggle, it is because they do not understand the notation or terminology in use. In such cases, it is important to reassure the student, reminding him or her that he or she is only struggling with understanding a single word, not the entire mathematical concept. As a rule, people perform better and are better motivated when they have self-confidence, not when the task ahead seems frighteningly daunting. It is also important to recognize that different students learn best through different means. As an example, some students are visual learners and can understand the material best through pictures and gestures. Other students learn best through hearing the procedures vocalized, while still others learn best through writing out the steps of the solution procedure. I know to adapt my teaching style to the individual student. with these considerations in mind, I promise to provide the best assistance that I can, taking your individual needs into consideration.
I recently graduated with a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I have accomplished many things while at college, such as programming a robot to drive itself around a building, and constructing a pump for an experiment in detecting dark matter. I also worked outside of school in multiple technology-driven jobs, like a summer camp where I taught more than 30 students computer science from the ground up, and an Internship where I helped design some of the most powerful fans ever created. In my downtime, I enjoy reading fiction and working on interesting problems in computer science and engineering, in addition to other things like playing video games and the using the Internet. All of the skills I have gained through these experiences will be put to use giving you the best tutoring experience possible!
I am a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute working towards a degree in Business Analytics with a minor in Computer Science. I first started tutoring when I was in high school and started a robotics club that taught computer programming and problem solving skills to elementary and middle school students. I tutor in any math, science, and computer science fields. I am also open to tutoring for students taking the ACT or SAT.
I am a currently a civil engineering student at an engineering university, and I'm currently working on my Bachelors. I have three years of experience tutoring and teaching math, science, computer science, and test prep. I have three years of experience teaching students between the ages of 3-17. I enjoy working with students, and primarily work with them regarding their math and humanities skills. I love tutoring in mostly everything, but my favorite topics to tutor in are math and history.I have had a lot of practice in all that I teach, and I believe that any student, as long as he or she is willing to put the work in, can succeed. I love working with students so that I can tap into that potential, and watch them grow. I believe in hands-on learning, and being a current student myself, I understand the frustration, and I definitely understand the struggle. Persistence is key to understanding, and I am willing to communicate that to students.Outside of academia, I am incredibly interested in the hands-on application of engineering. I am a member of my collegiate chapter of Engineers Without Borders. I had the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua on an assessment trip to work with a community of over 1,500 people. My chapter will be tackling a water systems project there, and I was fortunate enough to be able to travel there with two other peers.
I am an undergraduate student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where I major in Mechanical Engineering. I tutor various subjects in math, science, and engineering. Throughout high school and college, I've had some great experiences with instructors who are passionate about teaching. I want to return the favor and help students who are struggling with material that I once struggled with myself. I ensure that my students have mastered the basics before moving on to more complicated topics, and I firmly believe that learning should be a fun, positive experience! Outside of tutoring, I run competitive cross country and track at my college. I'm also into sports/fitness and playing the guitar.
I am a sophomore biology major at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute under the Accelerated Medical Program. Outside of my academics, I am a volunteer for my school's Global Medical Brigades chapter. I also help lead my university's chapter of She's the First to fundraise for girls' education in developing nations. I am most passionate about tutoring STEM subjects, specifically biology, chemistry, and mathematics. I enjoy pushing students to question the knowledge put in front of them and encourage them to be more curious about the world around them and seek out answers.
Having tutoring for over several years now, I have gained an immense amount of teaching experiences working with students from junior high school, high school, and college both undergrad and a few graduate. I know what it feels like when someone is having difficulty in a particular subject, they often get frustrated, angry, exhausted, and stressed after working on problem sets in physics and/or mathematics for an excessive amount of time and still cannot find a reasonable solution to solve the problem. There are also times when students are unable to start. My job as a tutor is to ensure that they can fully overcome these obstacles and solve the problems with ease in a coherent and thorough manner without any difficulty. The way I go about eliminating these obstacles and difficulties that each student is facing, is by creating multiple teaching strategies. Some of my strategies involved the making of a new lesson plan detailing important concepts and terms covered in class, supplemented with examples and textbook materials. Other strategies involved the use of a step by step procedure that will help to break down concepts into simpler terms and definition until the students are able to gain an insight on how to solve the problem. To help the students engaged into the problems being discussed, I often choose real life examples and applications to demonstrate how problems of these types can be used to solve real life situations. As a graduate with a BS dual degree in electrical engineering and mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, I've leveraged the skills taught to me to developed software for hardware platforms in control systems, flight controls. and electric motor machinery. Also, the skills taught to me has led me to designed hardware for sustainable energy subsystems. These subsystems are often successful because I'm able to create various plans and step by step procedure similar to the ones I used for my students, before starting the developmental phase. My interest are in Flight Controls and Applied Mathematics and I look forward in pursuing higher education in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering in the next few years to come. I'm looking forward to working with as many students as possible and assist them with the best possible teaching strategy, so they can be the next or future generation of Doctors. Lawyers, Engineer, Scientist or Mathematician.
I have recently retired from the HiTech industry as an Engineering Executive with a Professional Engineering License practicing more than 35yrs. Additionally, my MS Mechanical Engineering Degree was focused on Structural Mechanics as a specialty. Since retirement from industry, I have been a substitute High School teacher for Math and Science along with being a Varsity Tutor. Both educational roles allow me to be a mentor by helping future STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) students grow educationally, and Engineers pass their FE & PE Exams in achieving Engineering Licensure. The FE & PE License Exam Curriculum that I have developed is highly successful with over a 90% passing rate for those students tutored.
I am currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic University for a dual major of Computer Systems Engineering and Computer Science. I have experience tutoring and mentoring across STEM, but specialize in math, computer science, and computer engineering. I'm deeply passionate about assisting others, and breaking down difficult problems and subjects into manageable components and fitting them back together. My style is collaborative and patient, and I work alongside my students to help them achieve their personal learning goals. I've found success in engaging directly with my students, and finding what teaching strategy works best for them. I believe tutoring is an excellent opportunity for a personalized learning journey, one which enables students to identify their academic struggles and find strategies to overcome them.
I'm a researcher with a passion for communicating science to students. I hold degrees in chemistry (BS) and biochemistry (PhD) and have extensive experience in teaching high school and college students in both lecture and one-on-one tutoring formats. The subjects I feel most comfortable tutoring are biology, chemistry, and physics. I like to take students through examples that highlight key concepts to the subject matter, beginning with simple problems and then going on to more complex and intricate problems that involve multiple concepts. I firmly believe that science is for everyone and that everyone can and should understand science.
I've worked was a volunteer docent at the American Museum of Natural History while I was in high school, teaching visitors and students about the various dioramas on view and giving demonstrations of phenomena like buoyancy. More recently I had the opportunity to work as a student caller at the Renssealaer Annual Fund, where I got to engage in alumni relations and answer the questions of parents of current students. Although I'd never worked in a sales position before that, my experience there helped me to learn how to talk with people and find out how they work and what interests them.At Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (my alma mater as of May 2015, also known as RPI), I enjoyed having the chance to work with my friends and colleagues and help them with their school work. More than the thrill of problem solving was the satisfaction I got when I helped them understand a problem and work through it themselves. At RPI I studied mathematics although I also had an interest in physics and computer science. As a tutor I look forward to helping you better understand math! The subjects I'm looking to teach include calculus, multivariate calculus, and differential equations, although I can also teach algebra for those who need it.Every student is different and to help them learn it's important to listen to them and decide on how to teach them, either with theory, applied problems, or some other method. This was something I learnt while I was responsible for leading practice sessions for one of my school's martial arts club.In my spare time I am learning how to be a developer and data scientist so I might eventually achieve my goal of one of those careers. I also really enjoy to read, run, and am currently learning how to play the piano, something I have always wanted to do since I was a kid. Teaching myself how to do these things has helped me better appreciate how constructive guidance from a tutor can be.
My name is Kulsum. I am a senior currently studying Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Physics BioChem from Siena College. I aspire to become a medical care professional and work in disadvantaged and underserved communities. I believe that if an individual is ready to put in hard work and determination nothing can stop them from achieving their goals. As a tutor I aspire to motivate my students to see a difficult concept or problem not as an obstacle but as a goal that can be conquered. I strive to not only help my students understand material but to also build their self-esteem and self-confidence.
Hi!I'm a graduate of Norwalk Community College in CT and am currently attending RPI.I achieved an Associates degree in Engineering Science from NCC and am now pursuing a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering at RPI.I was a tutor for a year and a half at NCC and the subjects I tutored were Math (low to high level), Physics, and a bit of Chemistry.I would definitely say my favorite subject to tutor is math. No matter what an individuals major everybody has to go through some level of it. So as a tutor I've been exposed to a multitude of people who I've been able to teach and learn from. When I tutor I prefer to let the students "teach" themselves. I am more than willing to help along the way but my goal is to see my students continually progress until they are self sufficient.Outside of tutoring I'm at the gym or hanging out with some friends. There's definitely more to that, so come and find out more in a session or two!
As the child of two dedicated educators, a passion for learning and teaching has been instilled in me from a young age. Over the past four years, I've had the privilege of working with children of varying learning abilities, tailoring my approach to meet each student's unique needs. My goal is to create a supportive and engaging environment where every learner can thrive and achieve their potential.
Hi, I'm Jia! I'm a tutor with several years of experience helping students build real understanding and increase test averages. I love teaching SAT math, Chemistry, Algebra, Calculus, Biology, and more! I'm patient, adaptable, and genuinely passionate about making learning feel less overwhelming and a lot more achievable. Whether you're struggling to catch up or working to get ahead, I can't wait to help out.
I'm easy going, I get along with most people I meet and I enjoy helping others out. I feel that knowing a subject and knowing how to teach said subject can be quite different. Being able to relate to different types of people and understanding different learning styles is extremely important and listening for comprehension, as a teacher/tutor, is a necessary skill that I don't see enough of. Knowing how crucial it is, I try my best to really listen and understand the learners point of view in order to make the most out of any teaching opportunity.
I believe anyone can learn anything if given the right opportunity. The best instructors work with you to help you learn, even the most difficult subjects. I take the time to discover how someone learns best before diving into tutoring approaches. I have been tutoring for about 3-4 years both virtually and in-person. I'm a senior Physics major and Astrophysics minor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY. I love teaching calculus, physics, and astrophysics to eager students.
Hi - I'm Peter. I've always had a preference for math and science, which explains my undergrad choice in engineering. I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I received my MBA (Industrial Management) from the Wharton Graduate Division at U. of Pa. My primary work experience prior to teaching was in business planning and finance (more math). I started teaching because I enjoyed helping students at Baruch College prep for graduate school entrance exams (GMAT, LSAT, GRE). Later on, I aided community college students to break through their difficulties in basic math, algebra, quantitative literacy and statistics/probability (remedial math courses). Many of these students were the first in their families to attend college. I've been teaching math for 25+ years, both in a classroom setting and, more recently, on-line. I prefer to use a whiteboard and other visuals to present the problems and explain the methodology and steps that lead to the solution. If you are my student I would encourage you to first think through the problem and work it through on your own whenever possible, as it helps to foster self-confidence. Then I can step in and assist where I can to guide you to the correct solution. I like to put myself in my student's place in order to understand what hurdle(s) they need to overcome to solve the math question. I can explain approaches to the solution in several ways until it makes sense to you. I am available pretty much during the week or on weekends from late morning until early evenings and can make exceptions when necessary. I would be happy to hold an initial exploratory session at no charge just so we can get to know each other and agree on what we can accomplish together.
As a dedicated and enthusiastic educator, I bring a unique blend of academic excellence, teaching experience, and personalized mentorship to my role as a tutor. With a strong foundation in standardized test preparation, academic subjects, and soft skills like communication and empathy, I am committed to empowering students to achieve their full potential. Having scored in the 98th percentile on the SAT, I understand the challenges and intricacies of standardized testing. I specialize in guiding students through the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section by teaching critical reading strategies, grammar rules, and effective essay writing techniques. My approach focuses on building confidence and fostering a deep understanding of the material rather than rote memorization, ensuring long-term success. Beyond standardized tests, I have experience teaching and mentoring students in diverse subjects such as psychology, reading, and writing. My academic journey includes rigorous coursework at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University of Pennsylvania, equipping me with a breadth of knowledge that I enthusiastically share with my students. As a tutor, I prioritize creating a supportive and engaging learning environment tailored to each student's unique needs and goals. I strive to make complex topics approachable, drawing on real-world examples and interactive techniques to ensure concepts resonate. My ultimate goal is to inspire confidence and a love of learning in every student I work with. I am excited to bring my passion for teaching, proven strategies, and dedication to academic success to every tutoring session, helping students achieve their goals and unlock their full potential.
Hi I'm Tejus!I am an incoming PhD candidate and I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science while also being on the Pre-med track at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. My goal is to help students grasp concepts they might struggle with particularly within the fields of Math and Science. I use lesson plans in which I usually introduce the topic in a unique way to target the specific student. After which I proceed to not only go through step-by-step examples, but also provide plenty of practice problems for the student to improve their abilities on their own.I have roughly 4+ years of tutoring experience. During college I tutored both middle and high school students in the Troy Public School System. Before then, I also tutored students in Geometry and introductory level Biology as a senior in highschool. Along with that, as a part of my volunteer organization, I also tutored several students in lower income areas of the greater Albany region. These sessions ranged from traditional 1-on-1 meetings to classroom style discussions. My focus is primarily on ACT, SAT, and GRE preparation while also mentoring younger students in Biology, Geometry, and Algebra. When meeting a student for the first time, my objective is to gain an understanding of their abilities. Based on the results of their baseline assessment, I like to craft individualized plans to help them improve their weak spots and become better test takers. I like to work on practice problems with students to make sure they are understanding the appropriate thought process for each type of problem. From there I try to reinforce the material by giving them problems to work on at home. Finally periodic assessments will be provided in order to measure the progress that is being made.Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!Thank you!
I recently earned my PhD in Science and Technology Studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where I studied the politics of environmental remediation at the Hanford Site (where the US made plutonium for weapons until the late 80's). It's a dangerous site. It's also dangerous to ask any graduate student about their dissertation, since we can go on for longer than the half-life of plutonium. Don't say I didn't warn you!I am not only obsessed with things that glow in the dark. I am also fascinated with the social sciences, history, literature, philosophy, and writing. My M.A. is in anthropology, and my B.A. is in Sociology. When I tutor, I work hard to help you figure out why all of these subjects are worthy of your passion and effort.I have taught first-year college students, as well as worked individually with thirteen undergraduates to plan, write, and revise their senior theses. My students have included undergraduate social science students as well as those pursuing engineering, science, and business. I have participated in environmental research programs with high school students, and helped to train student activists in places as different as Pullman, WA and Atlanta, GA.I'm excited to work with you, too!
I am an engineering student at RPI, I enjoy all levels of maths and sciences. I chose engineering because of my love for these subjects. I hope I can help you!!
Hello. My name is Peter Elish and I am a tutor. You are entering a world where it is a "win win," meaning you help others with their finances and make money doing so. These licenses are so valuable, that you have the potential to make as much money, if not more money than doctors and lawyers. You do not need a secondary degree, you just need to pass the tests. You would want me as at tutor mainly because of my experience. My expertise is in OPTIONS and MARGIN. I started a broker-dealer from scratch, was a manager of other reps, and was a producer. To see my career path including all the licenses I obtained, view me at Broker Check: https://brokercheck.finra.org/individual/summary/1313689 and see that I had all the licenses. I also was the prime lead instructor for a Series 7 school years ago before publishing training manuals that became the big business we see today. My peers, other broker-dealers, had enough confidence in me to elect me to two different FINRA offices. One was regional office and the other a national position. I sat in on the meetings when FINRA changed the Series 7 test from a single 6 hour exam to the present two exams being the SIE and the Series 7 top off. I passed the Series 3 exam, the National Commodities Futures Exam. If you want to obtain the SIE license, you probably are in one of these categories. You may be doing for the fun of it, looking to get a better understanding of investments, and exploring it as a career. You possibly are in college and wanting an internship at an investment firm. You are hired in the business and need to pass the SIE and the other FINRA exams thereafter. Please understand that these tests are NOT EASY. You must be committed to PASSING the test. Your commitment to passing ensures my commitment to you. Otherwise, I probably am not the right tutor for you. My GOAL is for you to PASS.
I am a patient and empathetic tutor . I've been tutoring Java and Python for 6 years, to students in college, high school and middle school. I've been using Java professionally since its introduction in 1995. The depth and breath of my experience in programming allows me to use numerous alternative paths to bring home fundamental concepts and on target solutions. Anecdotes from professional experience enrich my lessons. I hope that my sense of humor contributes as well. It always seems to slip into a session.
I've recently moved to New York, NY after graduating at the top of my class from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy NY! At RPI, I received my BS in Computer Systems Engineering. Before college, I was valedictorian, got 5s on a variety of AP exams and achieved a 99+ percentile SAT score. Right now I'm a web developer! My academic success is linked to the amount I studied; however, I owe the majority of it to the wonderful professors and tutors I've had in my life. They've shown me that everyone has the potential to become a top student.I've been tutoring for over 4 years now and in that time, I've learned a ton of effective teaching methods. I've also learned many that don't work at all - we will skip those. My goal is to have you learn as much as possible, as efficiently as possible, while having as much fun as possible.Whether you want to explore subject fundamentals or just improve your SAT score, I'm your guy!
I am a college student in my senior year at RPI.I am studying mechanical engineering and love math and science.
Hello! I am a second-year BS/MD student at RPI and Albany Medical College, majoring in Biology. My interest in tutoring began in high school, where I helped classmates in math and chemistry. I also founded a chemistry club for middle school girls to spark early interest in science and prepare them for academic competitions. I am currently a TA for Organic Chemistry at RPI. I tutor AP Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, AP Biology, and SAT Math. Chemistry is my favorite subject to teach, and I was in the top 150 students in the US National Chemistry Olympiad and won the National Science Bowl twice. My tutoring style is flexible and student-focused. I adapt each session to the individual's learning style, combining my own teaching materials with any resources the student prefers. I emphasize building a strong understanding of core concepts first, followed by practice problems and application of test prep strategies to reinforce knowledge and speed.
Hi, my name is David and I'm a math tutor with a degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, one of the highest-rated engineering schools in the nation. For nearly the past two years, I have tutored both high school and college students one-on-one for many different commonly difficult classes such as high school and college algebra, AP Calculus, and Calculus 2. These tutors bring firsthand experience navigating rigorous coursework in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering disciplines. They understand the depth of knowledge required and can explain complex concepts with the clarity that comes from having mastered them at an advanced level.
Given RPI's focus on engineering and STEM, tutors from Rensselaer excel in mathematics (calculus, linear algebra, differential equations), physics, chemistry, and engineering subjects like thermodynamics, circuits, and materials science. Many also have strong backgrounds in computer science, programming, and technical problem-solving. That said, Rensselaer graduates work across many fields, so you can find tutors specializing in humanities, business, and test preparation as well.
Rensselaer's curriculum is known for its rigor and emphasis on hands-on problem-solving. Tutors with this background are skilled at breaking down difficult material step-by-step and helping students develop the critical thinking needed to solve complex problems. They've been through challenging exams, lab work, and design projects, so they understand common stumbling blocks and how to guide students past them effectively.
Yes. While RPI tutors are particularly strong in STEM subjects, many specialize in test preparation for the SAT, ACT, and AP exams. Their experience with advanced mathematics and science gives them a unique advantage in helping students master these sections. Additionally, some focus on graduate entrance exams like the GRE, GMAT, and engineering-specific certifications.
Absolutely. Tutors who graduated from Rensselaer understand what it takes to succeed in rigorous college STEM programs. They can help high school students strengthen foundational skills in algebra, precalculus, and chemistry before college, and can mentor current college students working through challenging coursework. Their insight into what college professors expect can help students develop good habits early.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows a tutor to adapt their teaching style to your student's learning pace and goals. An RPI tutor can draw on their own academic experience to offer tailored explanations, recommend problem-solving strategies, and provide targeted practice on weak areas. This customized approach is far more effective than one-size-fits-all classroom instruction, especially in complex STEM subjects where individual gaps can compound quickly.
