"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the poorly executed lessons of those who have taught me." -Isaac Newton and Myself. I was inspired to become a tutor because I believe there is an easy way to explain anything, it's just that, unfortunately, most don't take the time to try. I am a former Computer Science student at Rider University, where I have been tutoring since the beginning of Junior year. My favorite part of the job is that the more I teach a subject, the better I understand it. The subjects I will be focusing on tutoring are computer programming, Computational Theory, and Basic Mathematics such as Algebra. Currently I am an IT professional at a LIS company, providing patient-critical services to hospitals and labs. I also develop websites on the side.

I have been tutoring for 6 years now in a vast array of subjects in mathematics. My love for teaching for began when I was pursuing my masters of science degree in chemistry at Rutgers University. As graduate students we were responsible for being teacher assistants, proctoring exams, and holding review sessions. After I obtained my Masters, I became an SAT/ACT math tutor. I have tutored many students and have helped them grasp difficult math concepts and help them tackle the SAT/ACT. My love for math began at an early age. It was always a subject I enjoyed and did well in. While I was obtaining my bachelors of science in chemistry, I had to take some very advanced classes, including calculus 1-3. I have also had a passion for math and wanted to use this passion to help students achieve their academic goals. Just recently, I obtained my Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in finance from NJIT. I always had a love for business and thought having an MBA would help better my professional career. I firmly believe that education can not only open doors for you, but can make you a better individual. My favorite subjects to tutor are SAT and ACT math. These standardized tests are incredibly important for a student's path in education. I am well-versed in these exams and am knowledgeable on all topics they cover. I have seen a myriad of questions and know what types of things to look out for. I also stress to my students to that knowing how to take the SAT/ACT is just as important as knowing the material that you are being tested on. I also tutor pre-algebra, algebra I and II, pre-calc, geometry, and trigonometry. In my spare time I enjoy being with my family. I have 2 young boys that keep me very busy.

I started my career in nonprofit advocating for tort reform in the health care space, the right to prescribe for first responders, and health care reform for New Jersey State residents in 2010. A few years after that I graduated college and started a career in government with the Office of the Mayor of New York City. Here I demonstrated data driven change by working with the Office of Management and Budget to fine-tune procurement processes and spending for various programs. The following year, a position was offered to me by the New York City Police Department, to work for the Deputy Commissioner of Management and Budget. This soon turned into a position with the Police Commissioner's Office, working on neighborhood policing policy citywide. I have helped hundreds of people gain access to housing, jobs, hygiene, criminal justice reform, and affordable health care. In 2016 I was appointed by the Governor of New York State to be a local board member on the Selective Service Board in my neighborhood. By now I had traveled to China, Italy, Spain, England, the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico, and Germany, not to mention I had picked up two languages, becoming conversational in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Certainly, a lot has happened since I graduated college in 2013. Nevertheless, I feel like I'm only getting started.

I graduated from Rider University with a degree in History and Secondary Education. Throughout my time at Rider I learned how to not only teach history within a traditional classroom setting, but how to motivate people to achieve their goals and guide them through the process. Teaching, to me, is much more than just explaining material and ensuring students understand concepts; teaching is about enabling the student to think critically and go beyond what they thought was their limits.

To start, I am a mom and I love spending time with family and friends. I enjoy biking (bicycles), cooking new meals, scrap booking and going out to lunch or dinner with my friends. I also advocate for children who are not receiving the proper services in the school system. I am passionate about children receiving what they need to be successful from the school system. Academically, I have earned three master degrees over the years. One is in business and the other two are in the field of psychology; School Psychology and Educational Psychology. I have spent a number of years working in the public school system as a school psychologist. I thoroughly enjoy working with children to help them achieve a level of success with their academics. I like to use a multi-model approach to tutoring which includes your typical paper and pencil work, computer based learning tools, hands on strategies and discussion based learning. I believe for a student to remain engaged and active in their own learning they have to enjoy it to some degree. The teaching has to be interesting, engaging and have some level of fun tied to it. The teacher/tutor needs to know their student(s) and what their learning styles are in order to create the most effective strategies. I believe a reward system is very helpful for students who have a very low level of motivation to do their school work. It can be a very simple system which does not require spending lots of money, if any. I thoroughly enjoy working with children with special needs and various learning disabilities. My background is in the field of special education and I am well versed on a variety of interventions that prove successful with students. I have worked with students at all levels and have learned that a one's confidence level plays a large part in their success. When one feels confident about themselves and their ability to learn the material they seem to progress a bit quicker than those who struggle with self-confidence. I will help to build your child's self-confidence as they learn. It can be a fun experience and something your child looks forward to instead of dreading doing their school work. I look forward to working with you and your student(s).

My tutoring style is working one on one or in small groups, just as I do in my self contained classroom. This allows me to individualize instruction to meet each students' learning style. After school, I have often tutored elementary school students in Language Arts, Math, History, and other subjects, such as functional social and behavior skills. Language Arts would probably be my favorite. I believe that education is the foundation to success in life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who have direct experience at Rider University—either as current students or alumni. These tutors understand the specific academic culture, course structures, and expectations at Rider, which means they can provide insights that go beyond standard tutoring. They've navigated the same classrooms and professors, making their guidance particularly relevant for Rider students.

Tutors connected through Varsity Tutors who have Rider University experience are vetted for subject expertise and teaching ability. Many hold degrees from Rider or have completed advanced coursework there, and they're selected based on their academic performance and ability to explain concepts clearly. Each tutor's background is reviewed to ensure they can effectively support students in their areas of focus.

Rider University tutors work across a wide range of subjects, including business and accounting (core strengths at Rider), liberal arts, sciences, and test preparation. Because these tutors have completed coursework at Rider, they have deep familiarity with the university's curriculum and can help students master both foundational concepts and upper-level material specific to Rider's programs.

A tutor with Rider experience can offer practical advice about managing Rider's specific academic demands, understanding professor expectations, and succeeding in the university's particular course structures. They've already mastered the material you're learning and can share strategies that worked for them, plus they understand the campus culture and resources available to you as a Rider student.

Your first session is a chance to discuss your academic goals, current challenges, and what you hope to achieve. The tutor will assess your understanding of the material, ask about your learning style, and work with you to create a personalized plan. This foundation helps ensure that future sessions are focused and effective.

Yes. Tutors with Rider experience often have taken the same courses you're taking or similar ones within Rider's curriculum. This means they can provide targeted help with course-specific material, assignments, and exam preparation—and they can often anticipate the kinds of questions and problem types your professors emphasize.

Tell Varsity Tutors about your academic needs and your interest in working with someone from Rider University. You'll be connected with a tutor whose background and expertise align with your goals. From there, you can discuss scheduling, preferred learning style, and specific topics you'd like to focus on.

While tutors focus on academic support, their Rider background means they can offer perspective on managing college life, balancing coursework with other commitments, and making the most of university resources. Many students find that this broader context makes the tutoring experience more valuable and personally relevant.
