Hello Scholars! My name is Evelyn and I am so excited for the opportunity to work with you. I have been an educator for over 15 years and before becoming an educator, I spent 6 years in the Army as an Air Traffic Controller. I have enjoyed the transition from soldier to educator and it is my mission to continue serving. I believe students are partners the learning process and that they learn best from educators who believe in building and maintaining positive relationships. I always strive to provide diverse, engaging, and thought-provoking instruction that motivates my scholars to achieve greatness and attain a life-long appreciation of learning.

As an experienced educator with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University, with teaching certifications in ELA from Early Childhood to HS, I have dedicated over ten years to teaching and tutoring English Language Arts, including ACT preparation and reading intervention for middle and high school students. My teaching philosophy centers on building strong relationships with my students, as I believe that trust and understanding are foundational to effective learning. I strive to make lessons engaging by connecting literary concepts to real-life experiences, equipping students with not only academic skills but also essential life skills such as organization and goal-setting. My passion for literature and art enriches my teaching approach, allowing me to inspire students to discover their own interests in these subjects. I am excited about the opportunity to help students achieve their goals and foster a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom.

Learning is a habit. I grew up hearing that daily and it gradually sunk in as I progressed in school. I always enjoyed figuring out how things worked and why things happened, as my curiosity knew no bounds. As I matured, I discovered how to channel this curiosity into more productive avenues by working in study groups, helping friends answer their own questions which were usually quite similar this mine, This helped develop my confidence in teaching others through college, summer camps and medical school. I love working with different age groups as they all bring unique learning opportunities.My degrees have given me the skills to cover a wide range of subjects in the sciences and medicine, and to value each person I come across. My aim is to give my students a personalised learning experience composed of great learning opportunities and experiences so they can stay engaged, motivated and prepared for not just their classes but for life in general. Mentoring students as they learn is also crucial to the mental aspect of their growth. I also ensure that clear, practical objectives are given so students can stay focused on tasks and are able to take responsibility for their own future. In addition to this, I use different learning styles visual, verbal, discussions and review sessions as students have different learning styles. Teaching really is a privilege.

I am a native Houstonian and high school World Geography teacher. I graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and a minor in History. I am currently a graduate student at Sam Houston State University where am I and I pursing a Master of Arts in History. Also, I have spent numerous years mentoring and participating in community outreach.Educational Philosophy: I believe that teachers are here to serve the educational needs of students. I believe all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. I am currently a 4th year medical student in Texas. Prior to my medical education I earned a Bachelors in Journalism from UT Austin and a Masters in Public Health from UT Health Science Center in Houston. In between all the school, I have been tutoring in various subjects, mainly grade school math and English as well as the sciences in all levels. I worked as a manager at a non profit organization that had a focus on educational success for Houston's immigrant and refugee students. I am a strong supporter that education should be easily available for everyone. It is the cornerstone of success and a good teacher can make all the difference.

I believe in a flexible methodology. I believe not everyone learns in the same fashion or at the same rate. This does not mean a student is more or less intelligent than the next or the teacher is always right. There are fundamental methods and approaches that a student must learn when obtaining an education.The difference between a good teacher and a great one is adapting those methods and approaches to each individual. This cannot always be done in a classroom setting, and that is why we have tutors. I may not be the right tutor for everyone, but I'll do my best with everyone and hopefully change a few lives. In the end, this is not just about teaching them a specific subject, it's helping them evolve how they think in order to allow them to attack any subject now and in the future by teaching them how to break things down and approach it in an effective way.

Former high school teacher. Current English instructional coach. Part-time college instructor. After graduating college, I avoided my destiny and decided to go into the corporate world. After two years, I knew I could no longer outrun my fate; I accepted my first teaching position, and I have never looked back. I taught English I, II, and AP Literature and Composition during my tenure as a teacher. A few years ago, I was given the opportunity to leave the classroom and work with teachers. I work with our 26 high school English teachers to design and execute engaging curriculum for students. However, after a few years, I missed having my "own" students. I decided to put my Master's degree to use, and I began teaching Intro to Composition at my local community college. With my varied background, I am able to help students of all experience levels improve their writing skills and become effective communicators. I look forward to working with you.

Knowledge is power, how we obtain that knowledge is paramount to how we view learning, and school as a whole. As a former teacher who is now a practicing attorney with an MBA, I have a unique opportunity to tutor law, graduate, undergrad, and secondary school students in the various difficult subjects they need assistance with. In understanding the foundations of any subject, I am able to teach it in various ways that resonate with others, because not everyone learns the same manner or pace.

I believe all students, regardless of age or ability, should be "met where they are" and treated with respect.Goals, both big and small, must be set. Victories, regardless of size, must be celebrated. Only then can true learning occur.If I am working with a college level Writing student, it is important to me that they gain the skills they need. Like all true teachers, my goal is to get you to be able to do it without me.The same is true if I am working with an elementary student on Math skills.
