I am a native Seattleite, who graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and Elementary Education (K-8). I later received my master's degree in social work from the University of Washington. I taught grades 1-3 in Boston, Massachusetts (private school) and in Monroe, Washington (public school). I am passionate about helping children navigate through life both educationally and emotionally and found great satisfaction in working in Social Services for 11 years in a non-profit that provided mentors for children from single parent homes. While I was raising my children, I began tutoring Reading part time in public schools and found that I absolutely love working with emerging readers in small groups or one to one. It is extremely satisfying helping a child become a strong reader, as it influences their success in every subject area. I try to instill a love for books in my students, while using humor and positive encouragement. I strongly believe that children need support at home, both by being read to and reading to their family members. Following this period of learning loss due to the Covid epidemic, I am enjoying working with students to provide phonics-based early reading education.

I have been teaching and tutoring math for the last ten years. I enjoy looking at a problem and seeing if there are different ways to solve it, which makes the process a little more interesting than working onit with just one method. One thing I have found to be helpful is to think of possible errors one might make while working on a problem, which allows the concepts to sink in even more.

I'm getting my Master's in Philosophy at the CUNY Graduate Center after spending the last few years traveling the world and teaching English. As a teacher in South Korea and in India, I've had the privilege of teaching students of all ages (from early childhood to adult professionals) and ability levels. I tutor a variety of subjects in humanities and language arts; with a BA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, it's no surprise that my passion is helping students improve their writing skills. Among my professional experiences, I have worked with all ages in various capacities, most recently teaching math intervention at the middle school level. I am a trained professional, but also consider teaching to be among my natural abilities and something that I love doing.

I'm a graduate of Miami University (in Oxford, Ohio) with a BA in English. I'm also a graduate of Seattle Pacific University, where I earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction writing. I've published four collections of original short fiction, with a fifth coming in 2024. I also serve as an adjunct professor of fiction writing and introduction to creative writing, where I teach to classrooms of students and where I also advise students in a 1:1 capacity on their capstone writing projects. I love it. I love writing and I love, love, love to teach. Interacting with my students, helping them grow and learn about writing and helping them find their unique voices as writers is a tremendous pleasure. It feels like important work to me, and I take it really seriously. I think everybody has something unique and important to say via writing. I have a BS in Elementary Education from New York State University. I'm qualified, knowledgeable, and experienced in all academic subjects in K-6th grade levels. I have experience and knowledge in composing and implementing (IEP's) Individual Education Plans. We all need a little help now and then.Common education does a decent job of imparting information, but different people sometimes need a different approach, a little push, supplemental explanation or special practice so that they can truly understand and succeed with a subject... and in life. Part of my tutoring process is to listen and discern what is really at the root of the student's learning challenges. Sometimes it turns out that the real problem isn't the subject at all, but the way it is being taught, a lack of study time or space, or even a completely unrelated frustration. My goal is to help people strengthen their study habits and deepen their thinking skills so that they can grow in true understanding and experience success. I graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a BA in Applied Linguistics, and am currently enrolled in my MAT program at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. My teaching experience is very diverse, beginning with teaching ESL to refugees through World Relief and the World Trade Center to teaching English to Japanese high school students in Japan. I have been homeschooling for 15 years while developing and teaching a Latin program at a local private school for grades 5-9. After graduating from Seattle Pacific University I taught for 10 years in public and private schools. I have taught a variety of grades and subjects ranging from preschool-8th grade. I have been tutoring for over 10 years and find absolute joy in tutoring as I am able to help students overcome obstacles, difficulties, meet goals, and be challenged. After leaving the traditional classroom teaching setting for tutoring I also became an outdoor forest educator and love to discuss the outdoors. I love to teach children about the outdoors and the environment and get into how science works. Even when I tutor in reading and math when a kid asks why they made an error like flipping a number or letter this is such a fun opportunity to talk briefly about how the brain works and open up that door into science. I love working with students in math and seeing how they light up when it finally clicks. I enjoy math myself as I see it as a puzzle or game just waiting to be solved. I also have experience tutoring in reading, writing, and grammar in preschool through elementary school. These topics can be difficult and frustrating for so many or lack confidence that sometimes they need someone to cheer them along the way and be willing to try various things to figure out what tactic works for them.
