I am a recent graduate of Grand Canyon University with a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I have taught full time for three years. I have taught preschool, third, fourth and fifth grade students. The last two years I have been in a resource classroom teaching reading and writing. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing the student grow and learn. I always tell my students to say "I have not learned that yet," not "I cannot learn that." Learning is a mindset and when the mindset is right, the learning will come. I cannot wait to get the chance to help you learn all that you want to learn.

I am passionate about sharing my love for the English language with my students. In my teaching career, I have been successful at building a long-lasting rapport with my students and helping them excel in the areas that many find daunting and overwhelmingreading and writing.I am a graduate of Pace University in New York City with a Bachelors degree in English Language and Literature (Writing and Literature concentration). I have tutored test prep, including SAT, ACT, and TOEFL tests; phonics; essay editing; American history; ESL; elementary reading and writing; and middle school and high school English. When Im not tutoring, you can find me reading, listening to music, playing the piano, watching musicals, or playing with my two kids.
With more than ten years teaching university, graduate and undergraduate students, I am accomplished academic, researcher, and mentor of academics and researchers. I have also trained students in preparation for university, both English testing and humanities. I hold a BA in History and in Philosophy from Spring Arbor University (MI), including studying abroad at Oxford University (UK). I hold an MA in Linguistics with a concentration on Language Teaching from Syracuse University (NY). I am working on a PhD from the Ohio State University (OH) in Foreign, Second, and Multilingual Language Education. In particular, I teach and mentor writers, and am experienced with everything from test preparation to dissertations and publications. Much of my teaching experience was in China, and I greatly enjoy the opportunity tutoring allows for me to work with learners of diverse backgrounds.

Hello! I am from Ephrata, Pennsylvania and I have my Master's in Teaching English as a Second or Other Language from Spring Arbor University. I have taught English as a Second Language online for the past 10 years. My work also includes curriculum and assessment development. I love to help my students develop in various skills such as reading and pronunciation to help them prepare for their future! I have received excellent feedback from parents and students in surveys. I like to make my lessons interesting and understandable by providing many scaffolds, pictures, clear explanations, examples, conversations, jokes, etc believing that all students can learn. I also like to listen to my students, hear their perspectives and try to cater to their interests and situations where they need to learn English, providing material that the students feel is worthwhile and according to their interests to increase their involvement. I love reading, playing the violin, and spending time with my family. I am looking forward to interacting with you throughout the class.
I teach because I am passionate about my content and I love getting to share my excitement with others. I grew up in a family of engineers and medical professionals, and from a very young age my stuffed animals and baby brother were my first students. The more I studied and excelled in science and math, the more determined I became to pass on what I know. For undergrad, I attended Spring Arbor University, where I double-majored in chemistry and mathematics for secondary education. I also recently completed my master's degree in chemistry from Ohio University. I also have four years of experience teaching at a charter high school. I am very comfortable teaching and tutoring algebra II, trigonometry, pre-calculus, chemistry, and AP chemistry. Of them all, AP chemistry is my favorite class to teach, and I also have experience tutoring college-level general chemistry and organic chemistry.I believe that students learn best when they view schoolwork as a process to engage in, not as a checklist to complete. I support learning for mastery and I encourage students to embrace their mistakes by viewing them as opportunities for growth. I am always open to questions, but I usually answer with a question of my own. I work best one-on-one, helping students to identify what they already know and break down the problem-solving process into manageable steps. One of my favorite phrases is, "Let's find another way to think about this." Even the most rigid math problem can be approached from different angles, and I love the challenge of finding a new perspective that will "click" for a struggling student.
I've been a Math teacher for 8 years, and I love it! I have a knack for explaining things in a way that makes it easier to understand. :)
Most call me Jay, but everyone knows I love helping people see their potential. A few words to describe myself are patience, understanding, and resilience. These simple words explain who I am as a person and who I want my students to represent as individuals. I have spent the past seven years teaching, with a focus on Special Education. I care deeply about helping students with diverse needs and work hard to ensure every student feels included and able to succeed. Outside of school, I spend my free time working with young people in my community. I enjoy mentoring and encouraging them, and these experiences have helped me grow as a leader and shown me how important it is to have good role models. My family means everything to me. I am a husband and father to a son and a daughter, and they inspire me to set a good example every day. I also have a dog, who has taught me a lot about patience, responsibility, and friendship. In my work, in my community, and at home, I try to make a difference by being caring, dedicated, and helpful to others.
