Hello! My name is Helen and I am currently getting my Masters in Marketing at The University of Texas at Dallas. I have a passion for teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) from both the personal experience of being an ESL student at a young age and as a teaching professional.I bring my energy and attention to each tutoring session! I will help you gain understanding of concepts and achieve any assignment goals you may have!

Personal Facts and Style: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Native English Speaker and No Accent (These are important to some students) Patient and Friendly Like to explain things step by step and write a lot on the white board! ALWAYS open to questions and suggestions from students and parents Background: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have always enjoyed teaching new concepts to people, whether formally or informally. To paraphrase an old TV series title, I would say "Have books, will travel" to describe my passion for teaching. Of course, now these "books" are often online, and we travel with laptops and tablets. But learning will always be associated with the word books, in my opinion. My experience includes all levels of mathematics, including calculus, business calculus, and multi-variable calculus. I also love teaching the fundamentals such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. I am very comfortable in teaching computer-based topics such as Cloud Computing concepts as well as specifics for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Tutoring Approach: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When tutoring, I first try to understand the student's specific goals and needs. Maybe it's help with HW. Maybe it's general concepts. Perhaps it's a standardized test such as AP, SAT, GRE. What does the student need and what are his/her goals? How can I help? That's my approach. I try to make sessions interactive to make the learning process interesting. This also helps reinforce student learning. For 1-1 sessions, this is relatively easy to do. For group sessions, I try to ask students if they understand, and I give them time to solve the problems that I present. Subjects of Interest to Me (not a complete list) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Science is awesome right? From the biochemical reactions inside of our cells to the extreme biological adaptations of deep-diving sperm whales to the long distance migration of some birds, nature never ceases to amaze me. I love Biology (especially Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Cancer Biology), Chemistry (especially Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry), and Physics (Classical and Modern). I enjoy tutoring in these subjects as stand-alone or as part of the MCAT exam. Current Endeavors ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am currently working on Machine Learning (ML), and specifically neural networks. I use Python (with the Tensor Flow and Kera packages) and Jupyter Notebooks. I also use various tools in the cloud, and I set up billing alerts and cost constraints to ensure that I stay within my prescribed budget. I am also analyzing data such as my own Apple health data (XML format). There are many tools available for data analysis. I like using Microsoft Fabric along with the Azure Cloud, as it provides a good end-to-end solution.
I am a graduate of The University of Texas where I received my PhD in the Humanities with a focus on History and Literature. In addition to my extensive experience in the classroom, I have also raised a child with learning differences so I am keenly aware that everyone learns at their own speed and in their own way. There are no quick fixes and the student must be a party to their own success. I firmly believe that with organization, a good work ethic, and the proper learning environment, all students can do well in school. However, the most important ingredient is self-confidence, which is only achieved through accomplishing target goals. In the classroom, I concentrate on the individual needs of each of my students by helping them with organizational skills, reading, research techniques, and especially writing. This approach enables each student to not only develop their own style, but provides them with learning tools which can be applied to other areas of study.
I am a law student seeking to help fund my living expenses while I go to school. Before I entered law school, while I was getting my master's degree, I tutored a variety of high school subjects and the SAT and ACT. I enjoy tutoring immensely, and after nearly eight years of doing it, I have developed a repertoire of tricks that help my students learn more easily. I particularly enjoy tutoring high school math and physics, Spanish, and literature, but I have experience in most subjects. I know many, many words :-)
I have 15 years of experience in the computer science industry and am an avid public speaker. I have given numerous talks at conferences around the world. I am particularly excited about breaking down difficult topics into easy to understand sessions. My career spans working at the industry's most established companies.
As a teacher with over 7 years of experience, I am excited about the opportunity to apply my real-world experience and my learning skills to my students. I am a certified teacher with a master's degree in psychology. My expertise is in all types of science with a specific focus on chemistry. By using real-world connections, I try to make science come live. I am passionate about helping students come to love the act of learning, and I would relish the opportunity to transform the way students view science ."

He has years of experience tutoring and training students as he led a team of 78 students to the international level of DECA competition (the largest team in Texas).Micah likes taking unique, unorthodox approaches to solving problems. His hobby includes expanding his horizons about the technology and business world.
Benjamin Franklin once said, ???Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.??? This quote sums up my teaching philosophy. Students need to be involved and allowed the time to struggle and learn. I can provide support, motivation and patience to the student, and not only an answer. I believe this is more important as it gives them confidence and study techniques instead of just the answer to the specific problem at hand.
I recently graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biomedical Engineering, and I would love to apply the skills that I have gained during both my undergraduate and graduate careers to my tutoring career. During my studies, I have carried out two on-campus positions that allowed me to use the knowledge I gained from the classroom to help students understand the concepts from various perspective and through different creative activities. Seeing my students fully understand the concepts that are being taught in their classes has strengthened my commitment to help others through this company.
I recently graduated cum laude with a BS Biomedical Engineering degree. I tutor any of the fundamental sciences as well as calculus and pre-cal. I am a part of the Imperial Scientific Association (ISA), a group of NASA certified educators. During the week I am assisting with clinical research. Weekends will be an ideal time to meet. My tutoring style is best described as unwavering patience. I explain until there is understanding. I've spent years teaching my younger sister the ropes in science and math. I have the patience to explain the big fundamentals from start to finish and I have the experience to talk about how the theory applies to life.

I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with Latin and University Honors. I am currently a graduate student pursuing my Master's degree in Electrical Engineering at UT Dallas again. I have over 2 years of experience tutoring college level Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Differential Equations for UT Dallas' Peer Tutoring Program, which is a drop-in one-on-one tutoring service offered by UT Dallas to all its students. I also have around a year's worth of experience tutoring privately for a variety of subjects including Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, SAT Math, and other standardized test math sections. I've always had excellent feedback about my tutoring services since I love forming connections with my students and make every tutoring session fun and educational at the same time. If you need an A in your math class or need to ace your SAT math section, look no further :)
I believe that a tutor's duty is to identify and cater to the individual needs and learning styles of their students. It is my goal to help my students understand new and challenging concepts in such a way that the information can be recalled years later. I most enjoy tutoring biology because it is a subject that deeply interests me and calls upon an understanding of many other subjects. I am currently a third year undergraduate at UT Dallas pursuing a degree in biology. I spend my free time working out, volunteering, and being with my friends.
I am a current Ph.D student at the University of Texas at Dallas. I received my bachelors of science in Mathematics with honors from Union College. While in undergrad, I spent all four years working as a course assistant, aiding professors with grading and coursework. I also volunteered with Girls Inc all four years, tutoring students in grades 1-5 in a range of topics, but mostly math. During the summers, I worked with the academic outreach program, as an RA and a tutor for students going into their first year at Union College. Now as a Ph.D student, I have spent two years as a TA for undergraduate students, mostly working in calculus based courses. I find tutoring an incredibly rewarding process; fostering a students growth, working closely with a few students, and really breaking through educational barriers that are difficult to tackle in a large classroom setting.
Always happy to help, I am a patient and dedicated tutor that wishes to help every student feel confident and ready to succeed.Out of my undergrad, I taught at a test prep center to students of all ages, though I primarily tutored for SAT exam in order to help students feel prepared to sit for the test. We would work through practice problems and discuss strategies for how to maximize scores. A wonderful aspect to the work is helping students achieve their goals and feel empowered. My teaching style is patient, understanding, and engaging.A strong foundation is crucial to enable an understanding of the building blocks of knowledge. If we build a durable foundation, we are able to take on new challenges. Because everyone learns differently, my goal is to explain concepts in different ways and promote a thorough understanding. Once the concept is deeply understood, the same concept can be applied to different situations.Last, learning should also be enjoyable and a fun aspect of life that continues on past school. Whether it is reading a biography on a scientific figure or figuring out how to code in a new language, there is a great joy in learning more about the world around us. If I can help delineate a new concept in a way that inspires a student to learn more, that would be incredibly rewarding.
I am a Freshman of the Class of 2024 in the University of Texas at Dallas; my major is Computer Science. Back when I was in high school in Vietnam, which is a long time ago (at least 5 years), I stood out amongst my friends with the ability to perform really well in science subjects like Math, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. I always love learning new things and have a passion for academic stuff. One of my proudest achievements back then was earning the highest score amongst high school seniors in my state in the annual national final exam of 2015, an equivalent to the SAT. Afterwards, I spent nearly 4 years in college as a medical student but had to quit my studying to immigrate to the US. Though I am a little bit old to start college again, I do not really deem this as a disadvantage. In fact, my past experience would be really helpful to guide me through tough times in college. I am so excited and thankful that I have a chance to pursue my passion in one of the best education systems in the world.Colleges are definitely a great place for young people not only in terms of academic achievement but also with regard to socializing, networking, and how we grow up. However, I reckon that not all of us could pursue our goals at our dream college since we have to go through the application process, which still significantly relies on standardized tests score like SAT 1 and SAT 2 to determine the ability to become successful of a student in the future. Not long ago I spent a great amount of time to prepare for the SAT when I was about to apply for US colleges and did very well in the Math section, as well as SAT subject tests like Math II and Chemistry. I also worked with some students to help them with their subject tests, including teaching them new concepts, providing materials, and so on.I realize that every student has a different story; they pursue different goals due to their distinctions of ability, mindset, ... What I always want to do is to create an engaging, and fun environment to help them focus in learning rather than see it as a burden. In order to do that, giving constructive criticisms when needed is a must-need. Also, I love to encourage my students to have their own solution first for a new or difficult problem and value creativity and flexibility. You will not have to learn every formula in my class; rather, I will help you know how they are constructed, in other words, how people come up with a certain mathematic relations, so that even if you forgot something during your exam, you could still easily formulate or recall it.
An organized professional who takes value in making content accessible to all. Skilled at communicating complex information in a simple and entertaining way.

I have tutored for AP exams, SAT, ACT, and PSAT with great results with 98th percentile grades from my students in the Math and Reading section of the SAT & ACT.As an Electrical Engineering major, I had to be very grounded in math subjects, my mathematics foundation and applications allow me to be a very versatile tutor, breaking down the subject into easy to understand modules. As a result, I am very comfortable and confident in not only tutoring them but doing so at a level and style that students can readily follow and understand. I have taken higher level math courses and understand the fundamentals very well so it allows me to teach them in a way that is basic enough for anyone to understand.Everyone learns in a different way, so each student you teach is different each with their own strengths and weaknesses so tailoring the learning experience to each student is the best way to help the student learn in their own way.Math is easy it is just taught in a way students have difficulty learning, everyone does not think the same but I have a variety of methods to help anyone understand. Having a strong math foundation will help not only in your classes but in life as everything includes math.

I have learned a great deal in my history of tutoring. I believe that learning is a unique process for each individual, and that it is crucial to understand how to best guide the student through that process, rather than assuming they will always succeed in the same form of instruction as others.
I am a senior studying Physics and Math at the University of Texas at Dallas. I will receive a Bachelor's of Science in Physics in 2016. For years, helping people learn to approach problems and concepts in Math and Physics has been very satisfying to me. Finding the simplest way to think about an initially daunting idea or task and assisting others in recognizing the necessary reasoning process is a great experience. I tutor primarily Physics and Math, with a preference for Calculus because of the fact that the concepts of Calculus lend themselves so naturally to intuitive physical interpretations and analogies. I am also able to help with SAT preparation. My main hobbies include reading, playing strategy games, and watching basketball.
I have graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Mechanical Engineering background. As an engineering student, the math never goes away! I have experience as a student mentor in Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 at UTD and helped many people with their homework problems, so I am not new when people want help on their assignments. I am fearless especially when it comes to pre-algebra, algebra, college algebra, trig, pre-calculus, calculus problems. I have tutored many high school and middle school students in math related subjects back when I was a member of National Honors Society. In addition, back when I was in elementary school, I have participated in numerous number sense and problem solving competitions. I dual majored in Neuroscience and Psychology at UTD. Reading and psychology are my favorite to tutor students in because I am the most passionate about those subjects. I have always been the person that people come to when they need help because I am able to deliver information in a fun way that aligns with the person's skill level.
I am a sophomore at the University of Texas at Dallas. I am majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Art, in the hopes of going to medical school one day. I have had extensive experience tutoring students, ever since I was a high school student myself, in art, PSAT, math, and science. I am most passionate about teaching math and science, as the critical thinking skills developed from these subjects can be applied to multiple aspects of our lives. I always found myself being able to connect with students more via these subjects, as their puzzle-like nature seemed to appeal to students the most, especially once we discovered the teaching style that suited them. I witnessed that a tailored and unique teaching style shows remarkable improvements, both in the subject matter, as well as the students' general reception of academia. I strongly believe in the importance of education and its role as a critical tool, which enables individuals to improve the quality of their lives and develop lasting connections. In my free time, I like spending time with my family, doing art, running, and reading.
I enjoy tutoring because, when my students succeed, I get to be a link in their larger success chain. My favorite notes are from students who write to tell me that they just got their law degree, or PhD, or made it into the Naval Academy. (Go Navy!)I personally graduated cum laude with a double bachelors in Sociology and Historical Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas. I specialize in shepherding students through the SAT and ACT tests. As much as I enjoy math, I especially enjoy tutoring reading and writing because getting very good with that skillset has the most carryover value to the real world for most students. If I had to describe my teaching philosophy it would be, "Take your goals seriously. Invest in yourself. Lace in. Win through." In my spare time I enjoy reading and writing, and working out. I probably read about 30 books a year and I've written six books including several tutoring books-- since 2015.
I am a junior at UT Dallas working to attain my Bachelor's Degree in psychology. I am passionate about helping students understand and learn the topics they find most difficult. Guiding them to master ideas and concepts, I hope to make learning a more feasible experience. Throughout high school, I have helped my peers and classmates understand difficult concepts and helped them master them. I tutor in reading, writing, english, and math. My favorite subject to teach is math because I enjoy problem solving and working to find a common solution. My teaching philosophy is that there is nothing that cannot be learning without proper guidance and practice, which I plan to provide to all my students.

Every subject is like its own language, and every teacher is like the translator, who, not only makes untrodden land seem familiar but also equips the student with the tools and confidence to foster discovery on his or her own. All learning happens within the context of a relationship: this is my teaching philosophy. Lessons centered around teachable moments and the reasoning behind conceptual bases drive the manner in which I teach. Along with a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Dallas, I bring more than two years of experience with one of the best tutoring companies in the DFW teaching subjects ranging from the upper-level sciences to upper-level maths as well as SAT, ACT, AP, and everything in between. During my time at the university, I gathered lab experience working on a bioplastic catalysis project that aimed to increase the efficiency of non-petroleum-based polymerization reactions. Outside of my academic life, I love to make Latin-influenced music with my brothers.
I graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Tutoring has always been a passion. In high school and in college, I have tutored my friends in various subjects. This year, I have tutored high school students from algebra all the way to AB Calculus. My most rewarding experience is to see a struggling person succeed. Currently, with Varsity Tutors, I am teaching 9th grade math to Calculus 1. In the sciences, I am helping students in chemistry, honors chemistry, general chemistry, physical sciences, physics, and AP Physics 2: Mechanics. I like to tutor calculus the most because I find it interesting that we work with variables that are changing. With hard work and dedication, I believe anyone can succeed. I generally use a step-by-step approach with students to simplify difficult concepts. From my experience, I find it easier to understand why we use certain formulas instead of memorizing them. In calculus especially, I like to explain the real life applications to make the concepts more interesting. I am a firm believer that knowledge is power. In my spare time, I like to read, watch movies and eat out with friends, and listen to music.
