"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure."

I have been working in education for 20 years. I have taught elementary and pre-K all the way up to high school. I have worked extensively with English Language Learners and in intervention settings (Special Ed and RtI). I have taught many different subjects including math and science, reading, test preparation, and Spanish. I now am a small business owner in the field of education.I am a graduate of UC Davis and am a full IB (International Baccalaureate) graduate (I tested in Anthropology, Spanish, Art, English, Mathematics, and Biology and wrote my extended essay in Anthropology). I was an exchange student in Costa Rica where I learned the Spanish language and one of my favorite hobbies, salsa dancing. I am currently working on completing my Master's degree, but have my Master's equivalent in Education coursework.I have three children of my own and have taught hundreds more! I am excited to get to know you or your child and to collaborate on a plan to meet your educational needs.
As a passionate educator with a Master's degree in Studio Art from the University of California, Davis, I have over 2 years of tutoring experience in drawing and Rhino, complemented by more than 15 years of art classroom and studio teaching. My approach focuses on fostering creativity and critical thinking, encouraging students to express themselves while mastering technical skills. I believe in creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable exploring their artistic potential. Witnessing my students' growth and confidence in their abilities motivates me daily. Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring various art forms and engaging with the local art community, which continually inspires my own practice and enhances my teaching.
As a graduate of the UC Davis Linguistics department, I can empathize with the harsh demands of academia. For students of any age level, I believe striving for the best is a huge indicator of future success. Having an academic guide can truly be the key to the future, and I would love to help you and your family in the pursuit of the best education!
I am friendly and ongoing teacher who loves to share my love of learning with students. Additionally, I have the gift of being able to understand where a student's misunderstanding lies and from there, I'm able to explain it from their level of understanding. I'm excited for the chance to work with you.
Since graduating with my PhD in Nuclear Physics from the University of California, Davis in 2009, I have spent 7 years as a community college physics professor. As a community college graduate myself, I understand the challenges facing students and I am a passionate teacher. I am currently taking a year in Cambridge to complete a Master's degree in the Harvard Graduate School of Education to further improve my skills. As a tutor, physics is my favorite topic, but I am also enthusiastic about math as well as GRE test prep. From my experience in the classroom, I have discovered that it's very important to tailor the learning experience to each student. Every student is different and will benefit from varied methods. In general it's important to minimize lecturing and to give a student the opportunity to try and succeed at problems with gentle guidance. Outside of teaching, my interests are diverse. I enjoy reading, movies, CrossFit, theater, and dancing, specifically Salsa and Swing.
I've been teaching biology to undergraduates since 2003, as a tenured professor at the University of Redlands and as visiting faculty at various institutions, including Boston College and Williams College. One of my greatest joys in life is seeing my students grow in their skills, their confidence, and the power to shape their futures.
The only thing I love more than learning is helping other people to learn!
Currently, I'm working on a Master's program in Library and Information Science, but I am also a recent graduate of UC Davis where I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with an emphasis on Medieval and Early Modern European History. I love learning and teaching history of all kinds, but I am also available to tutor many other subjects from Math and English to SAT and GRE preparation. While I do not have much formal experience in tutoring, I was a peer tutor throughout high school. Also, as the oldest sibling, it fell to me to help my younger brother and sister through the difficult times in their studies, so I have plenty of experience helping students find the right way to learn the skills and information they need for school. As you may have guessed from my interest in libraries, I love reading. Mostly I read fiction, but also some non-fiction when I find a particular book that sparks my interest. I'm also exploring origami and meditation as a way to encourage relaxation and better health.
I have been a special education teacher for 9 years. I specialize in math, reading, and writing instruction for struggling students.
My first summer job out of college changed my career path from medicine to biology research--I cloned and characterized one of the first K+ channels in mammals. I also worked with Roy Britten, the discoverer of "junk DNA," on retrotransposons in marine invertebrates and published a paper with him. Since then I have completed my PhD from New York University and contributed to the field of neuroscience with a long history of high-impact publications in ion channels and neurotransmitter receptors, as well as genomics and structural biology. My interest in teaching grew when I got a position lecturing in physiology, neuroscience and cell biology at the medical school level, in the Caribbean, because the experience gave me a broader understanding of biology, and the medical relevance of my research, in contrast to very specific "projects" I had embarked on in research.
I graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Psychology. I plan to continue school and pursue a master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies. I have taught at many tutoring facilities including Chadbourne Elementary School and Hopkin's Junior High School in Fremont, UC Davis, and Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy. Many of the tutees I have taught range from elementary students to undergraduates. I am competent in basic arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, biology, and chemistry, but my favorite subject would have to be chemistry because I believe it is extremely relevant in many fields. My tutoring techniques are very versatile due to my experience from teaching in a classroom setting and private tutoring. In the classroom, my goal is to thoroughly cover the basics by drilling my tutees with lots of practice problems. I also try to facilitate group work, in order to stimulate critical thinking. In a private setting, my goal is to learn about my tutee's studying habits and weaknesses, so that I my design a regimen that ensure his or her success in the class. I try to impart to all my tutees about how important practice is when learning something new. Practice and repetition allows an individual to not only minimize mistakes, but it also gives them new insight on certain problems and on how a certain method can be applied to a different situation.Outside of academia, I have a wide range of hobbies. I like to play badminton competitively and hike though mountain trails. Instead of video games, I opt for playing board games with my friends; my favorites would be Settler's of Catan and Carcassonne. I also like to build and detail Gundam plastic models and have even founded a plastic model club in Davis to teach my techniques to others who were interested in the hobby. But what I love most is to learn new things every day. I would study scientific articles and read how scientists are finding new ways to treat certain diseases such as Alzheimer's and Schizophrenia, which I find very interesting.
I am a researcher and educator. I'm skeptical of received wisdom, have made a habit of getting paid to travel around the world, and love the outdoors and reading. Let's master your subject, but more importantly, master the art of learning and figure out why you're doing it."The first principle is that you must not fool yourself - and you are the easiest person to fool." - Richard Feynman

I studied mathematics during undergrad and fell in love with using logic and numbers to sift through the world.I then went on to obtain two masters degrees in economics. I love economics because it is a smart combination of statistical rigor and humanity.I also was an economics Ph.D. student in University of California, Davis studying theoretical microeconomics and econometrics for 3 years before I dropped out in 2019.I realized that what I love the most is applying knowledge to solve real world problems and help other people understand things.I still love economics but I am much more into applying statistics, econometrics, and programming to solve real problems.I fell in love with teaching during my Ph.D. years. I love to see how students can really understand things if they find the right way -- the right people or the right recourses -- to learn from. I want to be students' right kind of way to learn!I strive to try my best to use what I know to help students solve problems and understand things with more clarity.I firmly believe that seeing things from different perspectives is the fastest way to gain real understanding.
I am a senior studying Applied Mathematics at the University of California, Davis. I believe the most important quality in a tutor is patience. Everyone is capable of being great at math, but math is a very difficult and abstract topic, and the only sure path to success is through continuous effort. A tutor must have the patience to move through the subject at the student's own pace. Mathematics is important not just because of its endless application and its role as the foundation of the sciences, but because the problem solving strategies and intellectual tool set required in learning math are supremely advantageous to every field of academic and professional life. It is a pleasure to help young minds acquire these skills and very fulfilling to watch a student go from 'I don't understand, and I hate this' to 'I get this! and I hate it slightly less.'
I received my B.S. in Biology from Villanova University in May of 2012. Throughout my four years of undergraduate college, I tutored hundreds of students in a variety of subjects. A month after my graduation from Villanova, I was on a plane to California to start work on my Master's degree. I studied Entomology at the University of California, Davis and conducted a field research project that investigated how pesticides affect honey bee behavior. I also worked as a teaching assistant at Davis and co-created and taught a course about current issues related to beekeeping and bee conservation.I finished my M.S.in Entomology at the beginning of 2015. I have a sincere love of learning and find great joy in helping others achieve their academic goals. I believe a teacher must be patient with their students and truly understand what issues they face in order to effectively communicate with them. I strive to cultivate a positive teaching environment that inspires my students with the same passion for learning that I have.I have recently focused on tutoring standardized tests including the GRE, SAT and ACT. I most enjoy tutoring the GRE because of the complexity of its questions. I love teaching students how to see through the tests tricks and pitfalls, while also analyzing the subtle clues provided by the questions. Other subjects that I have experience tutoring include math up to calculus, biology, statistics, essay composition, chemistry and physics.
I am a graduate of The University of California, Davis. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History & Cultural Studies with a focus on education. Since graduation, I have tutored children of immigrants in Nevada. I have tutored private clients in California in elementary math up to prealgebra. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and History. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, we always seem to have the most fun for the Critical Reading Portion of the exams. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my free time, I enjoy reading, swimming, running, and playing board games.
I am Dr. Lily Skots, a passionate educator with a Ph.D. in General Psychology, specializing in Cognition and Instruction from Grand Canyon University. With over five years of teaching experience in elementary education, I have a particular enthusiasm for teaching Russian, English language arts, and math. My approach centers on breaking down complex concepts into manageable parts, using engaging, real-world examples tailored to each student's interests. For instance, I successfully implemented a basketball-themed math game to help third graders master multiplication tables, which transformed learning into a fun and interactive experience. I believe that every child can succeed when lessons are infused with creativity and tailored to their unique learning styles. My dedication to fostering academic growth has been recognized through my contributions to Universal Design Learning strategies and the development of programs that enhance parental engagement in education. I am eager to empower future educators and continue making a positive impact in the classroom.
I graduated from University of California Davis with major in Applied Mathematics and a minor in Evolution, Ecology, and Biodiversity (EEB). I have prepared elementary & high school students for the American Regional Math League (ARML) and Math Olympiad competition. I am very familiar with helping high school students study for the SAT, new SAT, SATII Math, ACT, and Calculus AB/BC. I also tutored undergraduates in Linear Algebra, ODEs, and Numerical Analysis when I was at UCD.My Ecology knowledge is a lot deeper than general Biology, but I am currently studying for the GRE Biology subject test. My Biology understanding and ability to teach it gets better everyday. That said, I would be happy to help any student get organized and tackle a subject he or she is struggling with. I strongly believe in all students' ability to learn and building confidence is the first step to success. I appreciate hard work and the desire to learn rather than memorize for a grade. Helping others see the beauty and happiness in Mathematics is my favorite thing about teaching it.I love energetic people and pets of all ages and sizes. I was Treasurer then President of Math Club at UCD and loved our weekly meals, board games, and lectures. Some of my hobbies include origami, puzzles, playing "mathy" board games and kickboxing.
I am a recent graduate from CSU Long Beach where I obtained my Master's degree in physics. Before my time in Long Beach, I was a student at UC Davis, where I obtained my BS in physics. I am currently looking to pursue my Ph.D. in physics once accepted to a university. Since my graduation in December, 2013 I have been in the teaching work force. I am currently teaching part-time at both Santa Ana College and Cypress college, where I am an instructor pf physics and astronomy. I also am teaching at local academies as an AP physics instructor for the summer. In addition to this experience, I was teaching for three years during my graduate program teaching lab courses in physics cover topics such as mechanics, electronics, magnetism, and Optics. I enjoying teaching these topics very much, and I love to hear students becoming more fluent in the language and application of the topics. It is truly the greatest reward as an instructor. My teaching style focus around a bottom-up approach. Since I am convinced memorization in physics/astronomy is not useful, I stress learning the most basic form of problems and modifying them based on the question being asked. It may be more difficult for some students, but I believe it leads to a mastery and will make students much more versatile to different questions/topics. When I am not tutoring, I am usually acting in a show or auditioning for film/commercials. I love to hike, run, and play video games in my downtime. I like to think of myself as a highly functioning, active nerd. I look forward to meeting any prospective students interested in learning these amazing topics in the world of physics and astronomy.

As a tutor, I will help your child gain academic skills and build confidence by providing them with the targeted, one-on-one instruction that he/she deserves.
I've been teaching or tutoring in some form or another since 2004. I've tutored with nonprofit organizations such as Urban Youth Impact and Reading Partners, served as an instructor in the military overseas and as a contractor for a Fortune 500 company, and worked as a teacher in the California public school system. Through this variety of experiences, I've worked with many great educators and students, and found that everyone has a teaching and learning style that works best for them, and the key is finding a match. For myself, the most important attributes in my teaching ability are passion, patience, and perception. Bringing life to the material with creativity and insight kindles and a greater interest in the learner. Having the patience to follow the plan of execution helps the student feel at ease and puts them in a better mindset for success. Perception is crucial for understanding how a student can maximize their abilities, and which method of learning works best for them.
I am a graduate of the University of California Davis with a degree in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering. The bulk of my career has been with the United States Navy as a commissioned officer and I am currently attending the Institute of Culinary Education. In regards to my style, I have found that the primary reason students struggle is not necessarily a lack of determination or ability, but a misunderstanding of the importance of the topic. What I offer is "real life" experience, I can relate topics to real word situations where the concept might apply. Teaching the concept is more important than the individual problem at hand.I hope that my background and style align with what you are looking for in a tutor and eagerly await for you to reach out.
I enjoy watching movies, horseback riding, traveling and reading. I have tutored people in English and Mandarin Chinese. For me, language is not just a string of words but behind it is a group of people who share similar mindset and values. I am fluent in both Chinese and English. I look forward to teaching people who are interested in learning about this beautiful language and the profound culture behind it.

I absolutely love teaching. I have been a teacher for 10 years, and I currently teach at a wonderful project-based high school in Pomona, CA where I integrate art and music into the variety of courses I teach. I have extensive experience in History, Math, English, English Language Development, and SAT prep among other subjects, but my specialty is in motivating students. I believe it is essential for a student to enjoy our tutoring sessions. I build on every success, small or large, with lots of praise, and I correct students' mistakes without judgment. Watching the light bulb come on in my student's head at that moment of understanding is priceless to me.I am also an avid snowboarder and certified snowboard instructor in the winter. When I am not on my local mountain, I enjoy basketball, volleyball, electronic music, and dancing, and I have recently begun to dabble with deejaying. I have a young personality that my students can easily relate to, but with the experience of a veteran teacher.

I am a graduate of The University of California at Davis. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science with a focus on modern European History. I also received a Masters of Arts from Webster University in International Relations. Since graduation, I have traveled extensively throughout Japan, Korea and parts of the Middle East. I have experienced numerous cultures, in my travels, and love learning about them. I am very passionate about History, geography and world affairs and I love reading about the subjects which helps to keep me up to date in them. In tutoring history I believe that it is best to tell history as a story. To let the student know that the people in history were real people and at times they had to make difficult decisions. I truly believe that education and knowledge is the key to success in this world. In my spare time, I enjoy writing, working out, gardening, computer programming-with python and of course reading. Reading, to me, is where one's mind expands and becomes more open.
I believe that the role of a teacher goes beyond the sharing of academic knowledge; it extends to providing mental guidance for students as well. Jim Henson once said, "[kids] don't remember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are." With the belief in mind, I try my very best to be a role model and inspire my students to act and speak with integrity at all times.I graduated from University of California, Davis with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Economics in 2008 and have been teaching ever since. In the past seven years, I've come in contact with about a thousand students at various ages. I learned to design, scaffold, and explain concepts using different methods according to students' best interests. I also worked closely with learning specialists to modify lessons and assignments for students with different needs. I've created common core aligned assessments that targeted students' ability to understand and explain core concepts. I've always been looking for ways to better my teaching because It is truly satisfying for me when i can make a difference in a child's life!As an experienced teacher, I believe that while teaching can be tough, it is one of the most rewarding jobs! I teach with a passion and I believe every child is capable of learning and achieving any goal they have in mind. My previous background in classroom environment has afforded me the skills to become a great tutor and I can't wait to meet my students!
I am a retired high school teacher. I have taught all levels (9-12 grade), and all aspects of English. No matter what I taught or when I taught it, I have always enjoyed the student-teacher connection more than any other part of teaching.I am especially good at helping with writing no matter the writer's level. Working on writing is a chance to also work on grammar, punctuation, organization, including outlining, and finally writing the paper. If a student learns this process, they can write a response for any situation.Once the process is learned then writing for other classes, all the way from a short answer to a research paper, becomes so much easier! After graduation and entering the work world, knowing how to write a response is a crucial tool. More and more businesses demand their employees write.Be it writing, or any other academic challenge, I hope to help you reach your potential, connect what you are studying to the real world, and have some fun while doing so.
