Even after 25 years of working with students in a wide variety of settings, the experience of seeing students have that “ah-ha!” moment excites me every time. Some of my favorite moments are:Helping young children who have struggled to read finally breaking the code.Working with older children for whom reading has been a major roadblock breaking through to find fluency.Seeing students understand the writing process for what it truly is - being able to get your unique and meaningful thoughts and feelings on a piece of paper - and doing it in a way that empowers them to be successful.Spending time with any student working through executive functioning challenges to become more efficient in their studies.Working with students in any subject area to help them see learning in new and meaningful ways.I love helping students reach their potential and learn to enjoy school!

I am a graduate of The University of Mary Hardin- Baylor in Belton, Texas. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I am certified to teach early childhood- 6th grade in the state of Texas. I am also certified in English Second Language and Gifted and Talented. I have taught in the classroom for 7 years- 3 years in pre-k, 3 years in 1st grade, and 1 year in 3rd grade ELAR/Social Studies. I have 2+ years in tutoring experience, and while in college, I worked as a General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and General Chemistry, lab/teaching assistant. I am most passionate about teaching Math, English, Science, such as Biology, and Psychology, because I believe that the subjects are all interconnected to one another, and are vital subjects to have knowledge on due to the fact that they are fundamentally included in a variety of career fields. For instance, in order to conduct certain scientific experiments, you need to employ strategies of math to solve biology and chemistry based problems, and it is also vital to know different psychological concepts to interpret different scientific research questions. I believe that these subjects allow students to express themselves in a unique way. I will create practical real-life examples and practice problems that can help them understand content better, and reinforce content knowledge that they are learning at school in a speed and manner that is most understandable to them. I firmly consider the fact that education is vital to a child's and adolescent's self-growth and self-actualization, enhanced quality of life, and gives individuals the confidence they need to reach their goals. My teaching philosophy will be based on the concept of "self-efficacy", which is an individual's belief in their ability to succeed in specific situations or accomplish a task.When a student struggles with certain concepts and subjects in school, due to certain factors like self-efficacy, or only being taught a subject matter in one way that is not particularly tailored to their learning style or doesn't resonate with them on a deeper level, it can cause students to experience doubt in their capabilities to reach their goals or career aspirations in life. As a tutor, I want to provide students with that extra support and guidance that they need to succeed in the concept areas that they are struggling in, to restore their hope and confidence in their capabilities and talents so they experience fulfillment to go after their life long goals and to continue to dream big, so that they do not feel the need to reduce their goals or stop dreaming of what they can become in this world. My hobbies including reading to continue to further enhance my knowledge, participating in arts and crafts, playing tennis, and spending time with family and friends.

My many experiences as a classroom, hybrid, and online graduate student have given me a unique perspective on what makes an excellent online instructor and what creates a disastrous experience for students. I have 13 years of experience as a classroom instructor and several years as an online tutor. I know the foundation of success for online nursing students is contingent on faculty being able to create a cordial and professional relationship with each student. I have extensive experience with APA formatting and writing style and available for editing APA papers including grammar and flow of the content. My teaching experiences include BSN, ADN, and LPN/LVN programs. These programs are regionally accredited and required instructors to use and create NCLEX structured questions. It is imperative for student success during and after completing school to critically evaluate and analyze nursing practice through difficult and alternative format questions. Unfortunately, NCLEX structured questions can be intimidating for students. As a former Assistant Dean for Academic Success and as an online tutor, I have extensive experience helping students understand and apply their knowledge to decrease test anxiety, decrease frustrations with studying, and increase their confidence. Nothing feels better than to hear from students who discovered their personal learning style and hearing about their successes.

I'm currently a junior at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor working to earn a Bachelors of Arts in Social Studies with a minor in Pedagogy, and a focus on grades 7-12. I aspire to earn a full K-12 certification. At the University, I am a humanities tutor as well as the French TA and tutor. I tutor a wide range of subjects, but my favorites are in the social studies realm. Teaching economics, government, and history is so rewarding because these subjects affect us all every day, and are important to build strong and capable citizens. While attending UMHB I worked as a Teaching assistant where I aided students preparing for quizzes, labs, and exams.
