Even after 25 years of working with students in a wide variety of settings, the experience of seeing students have that “ah-ha!” moment excites me every time. Some of my favorite moments are:Helping young children who have struggled to read finally breaking the code.Working with older children for whom reading has been a major roadblock breaking through to find fluency.Seeing students understand the writing process for what it truly is - being able to get your unique and meaningful thoughts and feelings on a piece of paper - and doing it in a way that empowers them to be successful.Spending time with any student working through executive functioning challenges to become more efficient in their studies.Working with students in any subject area to help them see learning in new and meaningful ways.I love helping students reach their potential and learn to enjoy school!

I am a recent graduate from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, with a Pre-Medical major with a concentration in Honors. I have 2+ years in tutoring experience, and while in college, I worked as a General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and General Chemistry, lab/teaching assistant. I also gained teaching skills by leading lectures for my Ecology course, and honors seminar in college for the Honors Program. This experience that l gained in college fostered my knowledge to be able to create my own research that led to me discovering a potential cure for Fanconi Anemia patients that present with cancer, due to my passions to become a Pediatric Oncologist to fight the battle of childhood cancer. Due to this astonishing experience and discovery, my goal as a tutor is to give my students the abilities and skills to reach their goals and full potential by assisting them with learning the materials and topics in Math, English, Science, and psychology/social sciences that may be challenging, and turning those topics into something that is easily obtainable to master by providing them with the resources they need tailored to their learning styles. I am most passionate about teaching Math, English, Science, such as Biology, and Psychology, because I believe that the subjects are all interconnected to one another, and are vital subjects to have knowledge on due to the fact that they are fundamentally included in a variety of career fields. For instance, in order to conduct certain scientific experiments, you need to employ strategies of math to solve biology and chemistry based problems, and it is also vital to know different psychological concepts to interpret different scientific research questions. I believe that these subjects allow students to express themselves in a unique way. I will create practical real-life examples and practice problems that can help them understand content better, and reinforce content knowledge that they are learning at school in a speed and manner that is most understandable to them. I firmly consider the fact that education is vital to a child's and adolescent's self-growth and self-actualization, enhanced quality of life, and gives individuals the confidence they need to reach their goals. My teaching philosophy will be based on the concept of "self-efficacy", which is an individual's belief in their ability to succeed in specific situations or accomplish a task. When a student struggles with certain concepts and subjects in school, due to certain factors like self-efficacy, or only being taught a subject matter in one way that is not particularly tailored to their learning style or doesn't resonate with them on a deeper level, it can cause students to experience doubt in their capabilities to reach their goals or career aspirations in life. As a tutor, I want to provide students with that extra support and guidance that they need to succeed in the concept areas that they are struggling in, to restore their hope and confidence in their capabilities and talents so they experience fulfillment to go after their life long goals and to continue to dream big, so that they do not feel the need to reduce their goals or stop dreaming of what they can become in this world. My hobbies including reading to continue to further enhance my knowledge, participating in arts and crafts, playing tennis, and spending time with family and friends.

My many experiences as a classroom, hybrid, and online graduate student have given me a unique perspective on what makes an excellent online instructor and what creates a disastrous experience for students. I have 13 years of experience as a classroom instructor and several years as an online tutor. I know the foundation of success for online nursing students is contingent on faculty being able to create a cordial and professional relationship with each student. I have extensive experience with APA formatting and writing style and available for editing APA papers including grammar and flow of the content. My teaching experiences include BSN, ADN, and LPN/LVN programs. These programs are regionally accredited and required instructors to use and create NCLEX structured questions. It is imperative for student success during and after completing school to critically evaluate and analyze nursing practice through difficult and alternative format questions. Unfortunately, NCLEX structured questions can be intimidating for students. As a former Assistant Dean for Academic Success and as an online tutor, I have extensive experience helping students understand and apply their knowledge to decrease test anxiety, decrease frustrations with studying, and increase their confidence. Nothing feels better than to hear from students who discovered their personal learning style and hearing about their successes.

The student is the most important part in tutoring, so they should always be at the forefront of the lesson plan. I think this way because I am currently a college student hoping to excel. I've tutored kids in maths such as geometry, algebra, pre-cal etc and plan to tutor algebra and pre-cal. I enjoy math because it helps people to understand the world just like science if not better.

I earned my bachelor's degree in chemistry at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and my doctorate in pharmacy. During college I tutored chemistry, was a teaching assistant for the chemistry department, and taught a home school chemistry co-op. During pharmacy school, I was a tutor for pharmacy students at my school. I primarily tutor science and math. The first thing I do when tutoring is learn about the student. It is helpful for me to know the student's learning style, challenges and struggles with the subject, and their study habits. I also enjoy learning what the student likes to do outside of school. All of this information helps me cater the tutoring session to the student.Outside of academia, I enjoy spending time with my husband, being outside, gardening, fishing, crafting, playing games, and eating food with my family and friends. It's important to spend time doing things you enjoy even when school is busy and overwhelming. It's the best way to give your mind a refresh and return to your studies refocused!

Hi! I am a former English teacher who has been working with Varsity Tutors for the last five years. I have an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction, and I am certified to teach middle school and ESL through the state of Texas. I take professional development courses regularly to maintain my credential and build new skills. I teach all areas of English instruction from phonics and emergent reading to high school literature and writing. I also specialize in test prep for the ISEE and various state exams. My favorite things about working with students through Varsity is working to meet individual student needs and working in a vast variety of content pertaining to English. I might start my morning working on systematic phonics instruction and emergent literacy, hop to elementary school math and reading comprehension, and end the morning studying Shakespeare. I genuinely enjoy working with my students through Varsity and creating unique lessons to meet student needs and interests!

I'm a graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Go CRU!), where I received a bachelor's in Mass Communication/Journalism. I minored in writing and spent my college years as a staff member and then editor of my college newspaper. I began mentoring/tutoring while still in college, helping new writers hone their skills and become successful in class and competitions. After graduation, I spent a decade working in the journalism/marketing/PR world, gaining valuable knowledge about writing, business, and leading others. Then, in 2016, I was given the opportunity to become the acting adviser for the college newspaper that helped launch my career. I loved helping the students progress in their writing abilities and helping them find out what they were most passionate about. I believe it is important to find out what motivates someone, especially when they are trying to reach a goal or get better at something. Not only have I worked with college students, but I have also been a foster parent for the last few years and have the chance to parent and mentor children with a variety of backgrounds and abilities. I think this gives me a compassionate and empathetic approach to tutoring. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy writing short stories, reading, crafting, baking and watching Disney movies with my kids.

I am a tutor in reading, writing, literature, poetry, and study skills. I currently hold a B.A. in English and am working on an M.A. in Literature, focusing on Romanticism. I enjoy working with students because I can often help them understand the joys of English, and they end up as better writers, readers, and critical thinkers because I can guide them into discovering abilities they did not know they possessed. I love seeing the moment of realization and understanding on a student's face. My tutoring philosophy involves empathy and meeting students where they are. Every student is different, and it's my job as a tutor to understand them and help them see skills they may not be confident in. In addition to helping students learn material and gain specific skills, I also want to guide them into greater confidence in themselves.

I am not perfect. And I do not try to be. I spend every day trying to be the best version of me I can, an imperfect me, but me. And that is what I teach every student I encounter; be YOU. Striving to be a perfect person will leave you disappointed. But, striving to be a perfect YOU, oh, that's self-love at its finniest. This is my mantra in teaching. Connecting with students is my purpose and passion. Going beyond the content and teaching them life lessons. I have been working in education for seven years and have enjoyed most of it. I believe in fun in education! If I am bored, I know the student is bored too. The more the student is engaged, the better the chances are the student will remember what they are being taught. Sometimes, they forget that they are learning. That is the best kind of teaching.Ok, about me. I graduated college at the University of Mary Hardin- Baylor. I have a degree in Journalism and I'm currently getting my master's in education.I teach Theatre in the classroom and tutor writing, reading, theatre and English.
