My passion for Spanish started after I graduated high school. I began volunteering abroad working in non-profit preschools in impoverished areas in both Argentina and Mexico. I also took intense Spanish immersion classes in order to improve my Spanish to best communicate with the communities I worked with. In June I will graduate with degrees in Spanish and Psychology from Western Washington University. My goal is to instill the same passion for learning and speaking Spanish in my students!

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from Western Washington University with a focus on material science. The subsequent year I graduated from the University of California Riverside with a master's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have been tutoring for over four years, working with a wide variety of students. During my undergraduate studies I tutored gifted high school students looking to excel in AP and IB classes as well as on the SAT to prepare them for a strong college career. I also spent considerable time with college students in my field and similar programs. Students have always given positive reviews when I ask them about the experience, commenting that the time was enjoyable and that learning came naturally. In my opinion, this is the best way to truly learn something. Outside of the classroom, I have a large set of hobbies and interests. I enjoy basketball, tennis, road biking, mountain biking, skiing, running, chess, working on my car, watching football, and going to the gym.

I tutor because I know what it’s like to struggle in school. I’ll never forget the day my high school counselor told me I might never go to college. My new found motivation propelled me from a C student to the top ten percent of my graduating high school class. I have a master's degree in mathematics, and I worked as an NTT faculty member of the Mathematics Department at Western Washington University from December of 2019 to December of 2021. During my time as a graduate teaching assistant and a full-time instructor for the Mathematics Department at Western Washington University, I taught business algebra, business calculus, differential calculus, integral calculus, college algebra, precalculus and trigonometry. I also want my students to understand that I do not have all of the answers for them and they will need to find some of them on their own. They need to be willing and capable enough to do this. When working with math, I attempt to connect concepts to "real world" uses and ideas. I hope to show my students that math is not a torture technique, but a tool that can be used to describe and test ideas as well as to overcome obstacles to success.Lastly, I believe that math and science are not done in isolation from other topics. Reading, writing and communication are important parts of instruction as well. Whether it is reading about a concept for information, learning or pleasure or it is writing and speaking about the ideas that a student has developed in working out a problem, all of these activities are integral parts of math and science work.However, my ultimate goal as a tutor is to have a positive influence on some part of each of my students' lives that helps them toward becoming capable and independent adults.
