I am Rene; I think and rethink. When I was growing up in El Salvador I became highly inquisitive about the urban environment. Everyday I had to walk to school admiring the intimate relationships between houses, between people. Today, I am not too far from my childhood counterpart. I enjoy getting lost in new places. I like to walk down the unfamiliar street, find the beauty in the back alley, and notice the small little details that make every place special.Currently, I am a recent grad from Carnegie Mellon University in Architecture and Environmental Policy and I work as an affordable housing fellow for Design Center Pittsburgh. I moved to Miami, Fl around 10 years ago and lived there until I had to go to college. I'm into the sweet embrace of nature, Hispanic undertones, tunes that move bones, playfulness of words, getting lost, and urban gateways.

I am a freshman Computer Science major at Carnegie Mellon University. I have freelanced tutored in computer science for several years, as well as other math and science topics. I also have extensive formal training in writing center theory and tutoring, and have worked in a writing center as a tutor, focusing on both academic essays and college admissions essays. I enjoy helping students discover their passion for a subject and build the fundamental skills they need in order to continue individual success. My teaching philosophy is based on a student focused approach in order to asses and fix fundamentals integral to the subject area. I try to balance those long term goals with teaching problem solving techniques and exam strategies in order to increase short term achievement as well. Outside of being a computer science major, I am also a former camp counselor, an aspiring physics minor, and a dancer in CMU's co-ed Bollywood dance team, CMU Sahara.
My name is Zhaleh BassiriRad and I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering and Japanese at Carnegie Mellon University. I enjoy tutoring because I love sharing knowledge with others, especially in one-on-one sessions, or with a small group. Teaching others is a great way to expand understanding of how other students think and develop ideas, and it allows myself to see new ways to look at problems. While I'm not studying (or helping my friends study), I love to play music (piano, flute, guitar), take a walk through the forest preserve, draw, design/sew clothing, chat with friends, etc. I look forward to contributing to students' learning endeavors!
I'm a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. I received my B.S. in Biological Sciences with a minor in Biomedical Engineering. Outside of academia, I enjoy cooking, exercising, reading, and spending time with my dog.
SAT/ACT Tutor currently pursuing a degree in Finance and Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University
I am passionate about lifting up the next generation of business leaders. I had amazing tutors when I was in college and business school and I am ready to pay it forward.
I am a recently retired civil engineer. For 34 -1/2 years, I worked as a civilian for the Department of the Air Force. My last position was as the Deputy Base Civil Engineer at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ. I am 57 years-old and originally from the Pittsburgh, PA area. I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and Engineering and Public Policy. Upon graduation, I began working for the AF at Langley AFB in southeastern Virgina, staying there for nearly 28 years before recently finishing my career in Tucson, AZ. Tutoring in math and science has always been a passion of mine. I am a good communicator and have a knack for knowing how to explain a concept based on the student's understanding and preferred style of learning. I believe strongly that problem solving builds knowledge. In my tutoring, I will patiently work through a type of problem with the student's input, and then strive for the student to be able to independently solve that type of problem. I believe strongly in education and want to "give back" to students, as I learned so much from teachers when I was younger. I am happily married with three daughters, ages 30, 26, and soon to be 16.
I am a third-year undergraduate student at Carnegie Mellon University studying Voice and Opera Performance with minors in Music Education and French and Francophone Studies. My ultimate goal is to become a teacher because I love working with students to help them achieve mastery of their subject(s)!I tutor Music Theory, Voice, French, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2. I love tutoring Music Theory because I think analysis and theory lend interesting perspectives towards understanding the music we love to play and listen to. I also enjoy tutoring French. I lived in Canada and attended French-Speaking schools where I developed a love for the beauty of the language. My passion for the French language endures as I specialize in French Song and Opera as a major area of study in University. When I'm not in class, you can often find me composing music, writing, or creating performance art.
I did my undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering at MIT and also completed a Masters in Robotics from CMU. I work as a robotics engineer in Boston and also run an edtech startup on the side. To me, the key to education is inspiration, and so its not just about teaching material but also mentoring. Though I program robots, I'm definitely a people person, patient, and interested in helping others to succeed!
I'm a graduate student studying physics. I enjoy teaching physics and math because they are subjects I love, and I want to pass on that excitement to others!I have a bachelors degree in physics with a minor in math from Bowdoin College, and a masters degree in physics from Carnegie Mellon University.
I attended Carnegie Mellon University with a focus on Acting and Medieval Literature. I grew up in a family of teachers, and I spent my years in high school and in college working as a peer tutor. While at university, I also served as a part-time English teacher at two elementary schools in inner city Pittsburgh. Since college, I have lived and worked as a tutor in New York, Los Angeles, and Barcelona. While I tutor a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, History, Math, and the SAT. I am fascinated by the SAT. I love teaching struggling test takers how to view the SAT as an approachable, accessible set of riddles and games instead of as an intellectual brick wall. I firmly believe that the majority of people can find great joy in academics once they discover the individual approach that works for them. I see it as my job to help them find that path. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, running, travel, and reading. I am also a section editor for the Los Angeles Review of Books and the literary manager for two theater companies based in New York and Los Angeles.
1540 SAT scorer with 2+ years tutoring math & test prep. I make concepts click, not just stick - because real understanding beats memorization every time.
I am an avid programmer, math enthusiast and love doing Salsa dancing. I enjoy helping students learn math and encourage them to develop a passion for math and science
In today's world of technology and computing, it is important to be able to think flexibly and conceptually. I have taught from the elementary level to the graduate level. At all stages of learning, being able to understand a concept is more important than being able to do a concept.I am a graduate from the University of Rochester where I majored in Economics. I had an emphasis on social choice theory and game theory as well as econometric analysis. Here, I understood the importance of conceptual thinking- where understanding the numbers and equations are not as important as understanding the meaning.I am currently a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University majoring in flute performance. Previously, I did my bachelor's degree at the Eastman School of Music. Here, I learned the importance of daily practice and commitment to the fundamentals for personal growth. I also learned that any skill (including testing) can be mastered with enough practice.
I earned my Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. I was a national topper in Physics at High School level, and am an expert in STEM subjects, including Math, Chemistry and Physics. I worked in the telecommunications industry for 30 years and am now retired. I have also taught math and science subjects at the college-level in New Jersey. I am focused on tutoring high school and middle school students in Maths, Chemistry and Physics, ACT/SAT Test Prep at all levels in High School.
I'm a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, and I currently live in Brooklyn.I'm originally from a small town in Pennsylvania called South Williamsport, which is not particularly notable except for anything but lumber and the Little League World Series. My baseball (and all sports) career was mercifully short, and I became super interested in theater, graduating college with a degree in direction.Since I could first crack open a book and try to read, I've been an avid fan of learning - about things I never knew, about places I've only dreamed of visiting, and about people different from myself. I believe that we never stop learning and that our minds are in need of constant sharpening. However, I'm also a firm believer in fun, and I hope to combine entertainment with enlightenment always.
I recently graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a double major in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering. I am currently working at a start up company in Pittsburgh. I am passionate about learning, regardless of the field, and I strive to do my very best at everything I do. I enjoy helping people learn; I don't want people to feel afraid of the sciences and will work hard to find a method of teaching that makes the subject seem more interesting.
I received my Masters in Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2011 and I have been tutoring students of various levels for over 10 years. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Mathematics, Programming and the Sciences.

I received my BFA in Design and Production from Carnegie Mellon University and my Masters of Elementary Education from Vanderbilt University. I currently work as a teacher in an Early Childhood Education School that is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and enriches learning in the natural world. When it comes to teaching, I work to be an educator that is responsive to the needs of students, weaves student interest into academics, and creates learning environments that encourage curiosity. I am passionate about connecting with students as individuals to create a strong foundation for our learning experiences. My approach to teaching all subjects is highly adaptable to the needs of the students and their personal contexts for learning. I approach literacy with focus on the foundational phonics skills and mechanics as well as engaging in rich and relevant texts. In math, I focus on building concrete representations of the problems and building up into those more challenging symbolic representations. I work to bring games, arts integration, and brain breaks into all learning to foster a positive environment and create deep connections to the material.
Throughout my education, I always excelled at test taking and standardized exams (SAT/SAT subject tests, AP exams, competition math). I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor's of Science in Chemical Engineering and went on to work in scientific computing. I want to utilize my spare time during this difficult period to pass on my experience to students looking to improve themselves, whether it be training them to become experts in the topics they're struggling with or helping them transition their understanding into exam results. I mainly tutor math (algebra, geometry, precalc, trig, calculus), though I can also tutor students for the SAT. I believe the best way to learn math is to build a strong foundation in basics supported by visual and proof-based understanding, and aim to help each individual student find their best way to understand a topic.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016. Since then, I have been a process engineer at a major oil and gas company in the Houston, TX area. As a chemical engineer, I have extensive experience with developing heat/material balances, troubleshooting and optimizing heat and mass transfer equipment, and using process simulation software.Outside of chemical engineering-specific areas, I am able to tutor in most math, chemistry, and physics subjects at levels from middle school through college. I can also provide tutoring in some SAT and SAT 2 subject tests. My favorite subject to tutor is math. I have loved math for as long as I can remember. To me, solving a math problem is like solving any other problem in life - you combine the information you are given, assumptions you can make, and your expertise and prior knowledge to derive a conclusion. I appreciate being able to help students develop these types problem solving skills through math because of how applicable they are to non-math scenarios.
I'm currently a sophomore at Carnegie Mellon University.I enjoy working with kids and helping them work through problems they struggle with on their own, teaching them to solve problems by concept, not on an individual basis. In my free time, I enjoy cooking and playing video games.
Its a pleasure to be working with students and a true joy to watch them succeed.I have worked in the Software development industry, I'm often learning up new programming languages. I also enjoy reading, mostly non-fiction and I try to get through a book each week.A famous proverb says "When a student is ready, the teacher appears.." so if you need any assistance at all, feel free to reach out.
My belief is that all students of all levels and types are capable of learning. It is just a matter of putting in the effort and taking the correct approach. In some cases it is a matter of putting together a series of small victories and gains before reaching the ultimate goal, but all students can get there!

I graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in May of 2018. I majored in Astrophysics with a Chinese minor. I decided to take two years off and work at a non profit aimed to help underrepresented students get access to opportunities and resources not readily available in their community. There I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to contribute and give back to the Lancaster community by creating my own 12-week engineering and coding course for the scholars in the program. These experiences inspired me to continue my education and attain my Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. I love tutoring and mentoring because it provides me with the opportunity to pay it forward and support the next generation of leaders. Learning is an amazing experience but everyone is different, and as a teacher it is my role to cater to your learning style to show that nothing is too hard to master.
I fully believe that every student should have equal access to quality and engaging education. I believe that access to a tutor allows a student that extra assistance to help them stick out in the classroom and excel over any academic challenge. After completing my Bachelors of Science in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, I moved to New York City to begin my role as a teacher. For the past year, I have worked as a high school chemistry teacher at an NYC Department of Education public school in the Bronx.
