I have a Bachelor of Arts in History from Holy Cross and an M.B.A. with a concentration in finance from Wake Forest. My primary areas of focus are SAT, Latin, Study Skills and Organization, Critical Reading, Essay Writing, Grammar and Literature. I find out what frustrations students are having and work with them to develop strategies to address their individual needs. In particular, I believe strongly in my writing and critical thinking skills and I believe that I can leverage these strengths to help students improve their own skills. I'm a big sports fan - especially baseball, football and golf - and I love running, reading, history and the movies.

I am a graduate from the College of the Holy Cross, who also has a background in studying Chinese, Politics, Government, English and History. I am most knowledgeable in the field of Chinese language, and spent my junior year abroad in China participating in intensive language programs in Beijing and Shanghai. I have just returned from a post graduate year abroad in Taipei, Taiwan, and left being evaluated at an advanced level of written and spoken Chinese. I understand how difficult learning this language can be especially for high school students or for new learners because I remember I faced the same challenges when taking Chinese in High School myself. I am very passionate about teaching and look forward to passing on the knowledge that I have as well as the lessons that I have learned.
I have always had a passion for math and it's elegance. There is always more than one way to approach a problem, and the nature of how theories and concepts interconnect together still makes me marvel. I approach math as almost a game, where you have to follow a certain set of rules, but if you do, you find your answer and "win." While math has always come easy to me, I also appreciate how it can be quite the opposite for many others, and try to approach teaching it from their perspective, and to find the best way for them to connect to the material and come to their own understanding, and hopefully an appreciation of the concepts and wonder behind it all. I studied Math in my undergraduate school, where I also double majored in Theater. This added experience makes me a dynamic and engaging speaker that directly boosts my ability to convey these ideas in more than just a flat lecture format. I also have my Masters Degree in Math Education 7-12.
I have been a high school physics teacher for seven years. My focus is on providing students with strategies that help them approach problem solving in a methodical and organized manner. I encourage students to observe their surroundings and use those observations to make connections to what we are learning in the classroom. Through a methodical, inquiry-based approach, students learn how to think critically and approach new scenarios with confidence.
I am a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross where I received a Bachelors of Art in French. I studied abroad in Strasbourg, France during my junior year, where I initially began tutoring private clients of all ages in English. I returned to France after graduating, to participate in the English Teaching Assistant Program in Bordeaux, where I worked in two elementary schools by helping to facilitate lessons, read stories to students, and work with small groups of students to complete English assignments. It was in Bordeaux that I realized my passion for helping students succeed and went on to serve two years in a 6th grade math class as an AmeriCorps Member through a Teaching Fellowship upon returning to the United States. I continue to serve students by working for an education nonprofit that focuses on increasing students??? grades, attendance, and good behaviors. I do this work because I believe that all students deserve a quality education and that educators can and should do better at providing individualized support to students. In my free time, I also enjoy baking, hiking with my dog, taking on fitness challenges, and crafting.

I am passionate about helping students not only understand the material but also foster a love for learning. I strive to connect with each student individually, adapting my methods to suit their unique needs and learning styles. Currently, I am a certified teacher continually seeking to enhance my students' academic success and confidence in their abilities.

I take great pride in helping individuals of varying mental, physical, or socioeconomic backgrounds meet their educational and/or career goals by providing a supportive and personalized tutoring plan.
I carry different techniques to make sure the students are actively engaged. Through online tutoring I will make sure that students are getting enough information. I will try my level best to give a campus based experience through online to the students. I have had a vast experience of teaching many undergraduate courses. My students vary from non-science majors to chemistry majors. The broad range of my teaching experience has improved the veracity of my lectures. I have learned the art of engaging students in the class while exposing them to the field of chemistry. The academia stands to contribute to the growth of the society through teaching.
I am a Spanish Master's Graduate student who has taught Spanish to Auburn University students in my second year of the program as an instructor of record. I taught classes of 20-30 students diligently, making sure they were ready to continue their Spanish major/ minor in college.I have an extensive experience of over two years in teaching ESL students from the age of 5-18 privately. I have worked on reading comprehension, writing skills and exam preparation with my students, depending on their levels and needs.I am a firm believer in hands-on teaching the material and making it as fun and engaging as possible.
I received my Bachelor of Arts from the College of the Holy Cross in 2010, having majored in English Literature and Russian and Eastern European Studies. I have taught English in China and Thailand to students of all ages, prepared students for international exams, provided coaching for immigration interviews, and worked in both general and special education classrooms in the greater Buffalo region. I am inspired by those I teach and endeavor to help my students channel their creativity and realize their potential while making content relevant outside of the confines of the classroom. My approach? I have recently completed my Masters in English Education and understand that students of all ages struggle with material at some point in their academic careers. I believe we learn best from teachers we feel genuinely care about us and our success. As a high school ELA and Environmental Science teacher, I work to build strong relationships with my students to better motivate them and get them invested in their work. In addition to guiding students towards a clearer understanding of material, I simultaneously work to impart the importance of non-cognitive skills. Patience, grit, and determination are integral to student success and I work daily to inspire my students to be proactive, take risks, collaborate with others, set goals, and seek excellence for themselves and invest in their futures. As teachers, we can't ask our students to love Shakespeare or Statistics or SAT prep if we don't! I bring enthusiasm and love of learning to every tutoring session and measure my success by that of my students'.I spend my spare time reading, finding awesome books to recommend to my students, running, walking my dog, cooking for my friends and family, studying Mandarin, and planning my next trip to Asia.
I am a French and History teacher originally from Massachusetts, now living in Brooklyn. I received my BA in History and French from the College of the Holy Cross and my Masters in Education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I have worked with students my entire life, as a substitute, paraprofessional, and full-time teacher teaching both social studies and French. I spend my summers working in Nice, France at a summer camp for American high school students, running activities and trips while tutoring them in French. My main areas of expertise are French and History though I also tutor Literature and SAT Prep (Verbal/Writing). In my years as a teacher and tutor I have learned that having fun is a great indicator of success. Piling too much pressure onto students only creates stress and self-doubt so I like to keep things light. I like to make lots of comparisons to current events that are relevant to the subject matter at hand to make things less intimidating and foreign. When I am not working I like playing and recording original music, cooking (often French dishes, not surprisingly), and watching sports. I am a huge fan of Liverpool and all the New England teams (yeah, this year has been rough) and love watching my fantasy teams underachieve.
Hello!I have over a decade of experience tutoring, teaching, and mentoring children of all ages. I have a passion for children to thrive, and my hope is that your student may learn skills that will help him/ her to excel at school.
Working Smarter and harder (minus the stress ;).Neuroscience PhD (MIT) with a focus not on simple recitation of material, but on understanding of it.I take joy in making material feel natural instead of alien. And I have special facility with 'debugging' problem areas that aren't making sense. (9/10 times it's because your brain learned a simple, *almost* true rule that sabotages understanding. I like to suss out those broken rules and fix them. :)__________About me:In addition to a background in learning theory (via doctorate in neuroscience) I have a great deal of experience teaching and tutoring a diverse body: from volunteer work with under privileged youth, to teaching MIT and Harvard undergraduate and graduate students, to enableing professors and post-docs to transition between fields, and even to coaching wrestling. My own hobbies/passions include both the mental and physical and include rock climbing, weight lifting, Brazilian jiu jitsu, theoretical computer science ("mathematical epistemology"), modern statistics, and economics and political theory. And I try to catch as much music and art with friends as a I reasonably can along the way. ;)
I graduated with a B.A. summa cum laude in Classical Languages and History from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. I have since taught Latin at public and private schools to students in grades 1-12, and I strive to make the study of Latin come alive for students by using the language conversationally. In addition to my experience teaching Latin, I have previously taught classes and tutored students individually for the ACT, SAT, and SSAT. I can teach all subjects on these tests, and I have developed my own materials that are based on previously released tests. I particularly enjoy helping students master these entrance exams and seeing them gain confidence as they realize that they can can succeed on the test.
I am a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and the University of Virginia. I received my BA from Holy Cross in Economics and German and my Masters in German from UVa. While at University of Virginia I taught introductory and intermediate German to undergraduate students and also tutored students in essay writing and grammar in both English and German. This past year I taught an undergraduate seminar in Germany at Ruhr University Bochum on German Film. Outside of teaching and tutoring I enjoy playing basketball, collecting vinyl records, reading and creative writing.

Right now I am the Learning and Development Coordinator for Impark USA. I enjoy teaching and love to work with others to overcome their academic challenges.
I graduated in 2011 with degrees in French and Psychology from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. This is also where I began tutoring as part of a volunteer tutoring program at a local elementary school. I loved working one-on-one with the children, teaching them Reading, Spelling, or Math and watching their improvement week by week. But most of all, I loved seeing what a difference it makes to form a personal connection with each student, and this is why I have continued tutoring over the past several years. My passion for language has also combined perfectly with my passion for tutoring. When I studied abroad in Dijon, France, I taught English at a French preschool and also led English conversation classes with international students at my university. I also spent a year teaching English to students at a high school in France. Since then, I have had extensive experience tutoring French, most recently with private sessions in my Connecticut hometown. My favorite subject to tutor is French, because I love to make grammar more fun by integrating my passion for French life, culture, and food. I also am available to tutor in English, Psychology, and test preparation. In any subject I tutor, I like to make sure students are not afraid of their subject matter and are enjoying themselves! My calm, patient, and compassionate nature makes it easy for my students to feel at ease and not to be intimidated by what they are learning. I also focus on my students learning styles so that each student can learn in the most productive and successful way possible. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy cooking, playing the piano, listening to music, trying new foods, traveling, and most of all spending time with my family and friends.
I graduated in 2011 from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester MA. There I received my Bachelor's of Arts in Classics (that is, Latin and ancient Greek literature) with a concentration in Peace & Conflict Studies; right now I'm taking classes to ready myself for grad school for Psychology.During undergrad, I tutored Latin for the Classics Honors Society and volunteered as an ESL teacher. After graduating, I moved to Spain and built on my volunteer experience by obtaining a TEFL certficate and tutoring and teaching there for the duration of my visa; when I returned to Philadelphia, I started working as a classroom ESL teacher for Kaplan International.Maybe because of these experiences, my favorite subjects to help with tend to be those most involved with language - Latin, Spanish, Reading/Writing skills - as well as Psychology, a more recent passion. I'm also happy to assist students with math for test prep like the SAT and GRE. As a tutor I would consider my style to be supportive but challenging - I want my students to realize how capable they are, and to do that, they need to work! I believe in a relaxed and friendly environment but I know my clients' time is valuable, and we'll spend it as effectively as possible.

I recently finished my PhD from Yale University, where I studied Developmental and Cognitive Psychology. Specifically, I have designed experiments to research how adults and children learn about complicated things like combustion engines, how lightning bugs light up, etc. I have years of experience teaching and tutoring undergraduate college students in 1-on-1 sessions and in classrooms as large as 500+ students. Outside of the classroom or the lab, however, I also spend time teaching through coaching. In my role as an assistant coach for the Yale Softball team I have coached student-athletes to be their best on and off the field, helping them to balance and achieve their individual goals. I am excited to be able to continue to teach here with Varsity Tutors!

Recently, I became certified to teach English through the Connecticut State Department of Education. As early as college I began tutoring. I have tutored in Math, Music, English as a Second Language, Reading, and Writing. I have tutored while living on both coasts as well as while living in South America. I love working one-on-one with students, meeting the challenges of discovering what strategies work best with each student. I regularly use Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences as a touchstone for the work I do with students, incorporating visual, musical, and kinesthetic strategies into my teaching. I love watching my students learn, develop, and grow both as students and as individuals. My goal is to build the confidence and skills each student needs to become a successful independent and lifelong learner. To continue my own learning, I am an avid reader and an extensive traveler; my most recent trips include Italy and South Africa. I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, painting, music, and soccer.
I am a certified Deaf Education teacher. I have taught in five states in both public school settings and deaf schools. I have worked with students from pre-school through high school age with a focus mainly in elementary school. While my focus has been Deaf Education, I have experience with typical students along with those who have a variety of additional special needs. I believe that all students have the potential to achieve, and I tailor my instruction to allow each individual student to reach their highest potential. I have worked one-on-one with many students and enjoy that setting because it allows me to focus all my energy on making sure that one student learns the information needed. Through teaching, I have learned to be flexible and how to present information in a variety of ways to meet the needs of different students.
I have a Bachelor's degree from College of the Holy Cross in French and Psychology, and a Master's of Public Health from Columbia University. I work in global health, primarily supporting women and children's health programs in Francophone West and Central Africa. I have experience tutoring students from elementary age up through high school, both tutoring French students in English while I was studying abroad in Strasbourg, France, for a year in college, and tutoring American students in French. I have worked as a freelance French interpreter and translator and for UNICEF and the United Nations Foundation and would be happy to share with students how French can open doors professionally. In addition to keeping up my French, I have studied a number of languages as an adult (Arabic, Spanish, German, Bambara), and so I have ideas about what works and doesn't work in terms of teaching foreign languages to both school-aged students as well as adults. I have my own teaching materials and am happy to incorporate students' materials and interests into the lesson plan. I have strategies for keeping the material interesting and dynamic, and I offer a supportive environment for them to practice their skills. I look forward to discussing how I can best tailor my lessons to meet your needs!
