I completed my Bachelors and Masters degree at Cuny Brooklyn College. Whether it is before school begins, on my lunch or after school, my students have full access to me.

Hi! My name is Cherish Pierre-Louis, and I am a what I'd like to call a tutor's tutor. I've been tutoring since 2017 and have helped dozens of students (high school and college) increase their grade averages by working with them on their grammar, writing structure as well as their reading comprehension. Pick me as your tutor and let me help you obtain the grade you deserve!
I migrated from Peru to America in the 80’s not knowing any English and realized the importance of being bilingual. After taking English classes and a lot of self study, I learned enough of the language to enroll in college. I got my bachelor and master’s degree in Spanish at Brooklyn College and tutoring my fellow classmates helped me pay for my tuition. Since then, I worked as a part time Spanish substitute teacher and was promoted to a full time teacher in public schools in Brooklyn. In 2013 my hard work paid off when my students got a 100 percent pass rate in their Spanish Lote Exam (the new name for Regents in Foreign Language). While I was teaching, I continued to tutor students who needed help in Spanish of all ages and grades. I have a particular student of Russian decent who I’ve been tutoring since she was in Junior High. When she went to high school, she took Spanish as her language of choice. Her teacher even thought she was Spanish because she spoke the language very well. At the present moment, I am still tutoring her in Spanish but this time, her lessons are more conversational. Due to my struggles as an immigrant, I tell all my students that it’s very important to go to college and get their education because it is something that no one can take away form you. It’s their ticket to their freedom and independence. In my spare time I practice yoga, spend time with my daughters and read books.
From PreK through middle school, I have taught at various levels and have discovered that teaching is about inspiring students to discover their potential. I believe in incorporating beneficial technological tools, the application of critical thinking, training your mind to think logically in a variety of situations as well as understanding that what we learn in is not independent but rather interactive.

My name is Adrian, and I'm a New York City-based Japanese language tutor. I graduated with a B.A. in Japanese Language & Culture from Hunter College, where I served as board member of the Hunter College Japan Club, as well as studied abroad at Toyo University in Tokyo, Japan. I also have a B.S. in Multimedia Computing from Brooklyn College. I've been tutoring students in Japanese since 2023, working with students of all age groups, ranging from elementary school to adult learners. I'm a former elementary school teacher with over 10 years of tutoring experience in English, reading, writing, math, science, and programming. I now specialize in teaching mainly English and Coding, blending my strong teaching background with a passion for coding. My sessions are tailored, engaging, and focused on building real confidence through hands on learning.
I am a certified English teacher for grades 7-12 and have a master's in teaching English from Brooklyn College. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in English, music, and University Honors Program from Portland State University. Prior to graduating from Portland State, I studied piano performance at University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. For the last two years, I taught middle and high school English in NYC public schools. Now I freelance as a tutor, book editor, and musician; I love the increased opportunities to work with people individually! In addition to working as a classroom English teacher, I have worked with music students of all ages in classrooms, in ensembles, and individually. My favorite part about teaching and tutoring is helping students get excited about a new idea or creative process. In my tutoring sessions, I will focus on both big ideas (developing and structuring arguments, analyzing themes, building connections, etc.) and the nitty gritty details (conventions, grammar, sentence structure, style, voice, etc.) of reading and writing, whether it be for an essay prompt on an assigned novel or for SAT prep. By the end of a session, you'll be better equipped with skills that will help you not just with your current assignment but also with any reading or writing assignment in the future. In my spare time, when I'm not reading all the books I can get my hands on, I enjoy playing piano and singing.
I graduated from Brooklyn College with a BA in Political Science and Social Studies Education and a concentration in History. While I was in college, I enjoyed working with students volunteering in a local High School as assistant teacher and tutor. I also obtained most of my experience while student teaching in two different High Schools in Manhattan. I have also contributed with some community leaders in the Bronx that work with the youth to finish High School and go onto college. Although I tutor a variety of subjects, I am most passionate about Spanish, ELL and Social Studies. As of now, I am pursuing the Social Studies teacher certification, which will hopefully help me to obtain my MA. I have a wide variety of hobbies which include writing, baseball, football (soccer), snowboarding, swimming, weightlifting, among others.
My tutoring journey began shortly after cracking the 99th percentile on the SAT as a high school senior. This was the start of what has now been an 8 year journey! I have worked with 50+ students, mostly in the areas of math, science and standardized testing. After college, I spent two years working as a biology teacher at a top charter school in NYC where my classes ranked #1 by test results. I left teaching to pursue a role as a financial analyst, but I have maintained a full roster of 1-1 private students since. I truly love working with students to help them achieve more than they (and their parents) thought possible. Let's get in touch to discuss how we can make your son/daughter a top performing student. Here are my areas of expertise: -SAT/ACT -Math (algebra, geometry, trig, stats, precalc, calculus) -Science (biology, chemistry, physics) -AP exams -SHSAT, ISEE, TACHS, HSPT -NYS Regents exams
I graduate from NYU in 2019 and begin to work as a financial consultant. I work as academic tutor for economic students since undergraduate. I am always passionate about delivering what I know to students and help them succeed in their career
I have been a teacher for 15 years. After graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Literature from Hawaii Pacific University, I went on to work in the professional training sector in London, designing an online training course for new recruiters. Then I returned stateside and earned my Masters Degree in Secondary English Education from Brooklyn College and have been a certified NYS teacher since. I see life as a never-ending opportunity to learn new things and conquer new challenges, and you have to be able to laugh at yourself along the way. In my teaching, I try to instill that joy and adventure of learning in everything I do with my students.
I love to tutor students because I like to see the joy on their faces when they succeed in the classes they are taking. I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry from CUNY Brooklyn College and a Masters degree in Public Health from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. My specialty areas include science from elementary school to undergraduate school. I can teach all levels of chemistry courses, whether its high school or college level, I am your gal. I am also very proficient in teaching math courses from Algebra 1 to Calculus 1. Since I have an MPH degree I am very good at editing papers, MLA formats, thesis statements, even helping students finish paper from start to finish. My teaching method is catered to every students strength and weaknesses. I help the student understand the problem they are struggling with, show them what tools or concepts they need to know to solve the problem, and work with them to solve some problems so they are confident in their abilities. I also do mock test reviews where we (the student and I) think of what questions a teacher may ask and then we practice those problems, this helps the student settle their nerves.Aside from studies I love to do outdoor activities such as hiking trails, playing tennis, and mini golf just to name a few.
I have been teaching for over thirty-five years and have enjoyed every moment. To me, education is not just about learning facts and passing exams, it is also about becoming a life-long learner. It is about using knowledge to improve one's life both personally and professionally. There are skills which need to be mastered and this is one important element of education. I also believe that education can improve one's enjoyment of life regardless of the occupation or field of study one pursues.I am especially proficient in the areas of essay writing and editing, proofreading, and the mechanics of grammar and usage. I have extensive experience in helping students prepare for standardized tests such as the SAT. I have also taught AP English and I am very familiar with the requirements of the AP Exam.
For some learning can be a difficult process. Not because they lack any type of mental facility, but because the material may not have been presented to them properly or more likely the case, the fundamentals needed to grasp the material are weak. I find that the lack of fundamentals is the key reasons people struggle grasping a subject matter, specifically in math and sciences.I hope to help a student learn the basis for their struggles and introduce them to how to learn more than what to learn. Understanding one's own weakness is key to learning. I hope to help the student be more introspective. Instead of saying "This is too hard", I want them to ask "Why is this too hard, and how can I fix my shortcoming?".
If you are seeking a tutor who will embrace your creativity, personality, and learning strengths with humor, honesty, and warmth, I might be a great fit for you. Please let me know if you have any questions about my approach, and I hope to work with you very soon.Since 2002, I have worked as an educator in urban, multicultural, and clinical settings from Brooklyn, New York to Portland, Oregon. As an educator, I am driven to create and present useful content and engage learners of all ages. As a person invested in social justice, I am driven to provide excellent service and honor each individual. As such, I provide ample opportunities for success with all the learners I serve. I have consistently fostered higher than average growth and have garnered recognition by my supervisors with above average performance ratings.
My passion for math and reading started at a very young age, but I quickly understood these subjects aren't fun for everyone. I started tutoring my peers in elementary school, and went on to organize formal peer tutoring groups in middle and high school, to help bridge gaps between teachers' expectations and my peers' reality.I've used my lifelong passion for math and problem solving to obtain my Master's degree in Computer Science, but I know that without a solid background in math and reading, my advanced degree would have been difficult to achieve.I prefer students to understand, from their unique point of view, why 1+1=2, why x*y=z or why "knock" only has one 'k' sound. Kids have a lot going on in their academic and personal lives, so I take time to talk to my students, take a few steps back from the problem and understand how they're tackling the problem. I've found that this conversation facilitates my understanding of how the student learns, and lends to their deeper understanding of concepts to apply to future, independent problem solving.
I am a highly experienced tutor who has worked with a wide variety of students of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities. Over the past 15 years, I have worked with the NO Child Left Behind Program in NYC schools, tutored regents, test Prep, homework and many academic subjects for middle school, high school and college. I am an MBA graduate of Pace University in NYC and have a CPA license as well as post MBA education. Over the past twenty years, I have held senior financial management positions in major NYC based companies and currently serve as Comptroller for a large organization. While comfortable teaching English and Math test prep and Regents prep for a wide range of exams, over the past year, I have worked quite a lot with ISEE, SHSAT, SSAT and Algebra students. From the first diagnostic that I give to my students, I quickly develop a strategy to work with them on to improve their performance, test taking ability and understanding of their weakest areas.I am also a certified personal trainer and believe strongly in the adage "A sound mind in a sound body." Culturally, I appreciate music, art, theater, film, dance, museums, reading, lectures and travel. I am incredibly proud that my twin daughters graduated from Ivy League institutions and are independent young women.
"My philosophy of education is that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. I believe all children can learn and be inspired to become lifelong learners. I will assist my students to express themselves and accept themselves for who they are, as well as embrace the differences of others. Every classroom has its unique community; my role as the teacher will be to assist each child in developing their potential and learning styles.

Shauna is a math teacher, who has also worked in the writing lab.
I am a native Spanish speaker and began learning English as a second language after graduating from college in Mexico City. I completed a full English course from Basic through TOEFL exam training. Then, I started an intensive course of Italian at Mexico Citys Istituto Italiano di Cultura, where I was a scholarship recipient. Gaining fluency in these two languages as an adult helped me to learn highly efficient language training methods that I have used in turn with private students in English, Spanish, and translation work. In New York, I also began studying French and German, including courses at the Alliance Franaise and the Deutsches Haus, at New York University. In 2008, I earned a Master's Degree in Music from Brooklyn College, City University of New York.As a Music major, I find the music learning process extremely useful for languages and I would apply many of the methods musicians use into the improvement and refinement of languages when tutoring.
My belief is that true learning happens when it is enjoyable. My mission as a prospective New York City teacher is to do my part in making sure the information my students receive is done so in a way that is manageable and fun. When my students show interest and progress in the content being taught, I will know I have done my job.
I love teaching! I am extremely excited to meet new students and share my knowledge to make them succeed better academically!
I have a Master's Degree in International/ Intercultural Education which has led me to become an expert in conducting research and writing. I was an English teacher in Haiti during the Summer of 2012 - one of the best experiences of my life. I have experience helping Middle School, High School and College students with comparative essays and with basic grammar. I love reading non-fiction and biographies; I'm a real fact finder aficionado.Aside from my writing abilities, I have vast experience working as a Spanish interpreter. I worked in a law firm for two years where I was the main source of communication between families, clients and court officials. I have helped many people with Spanish pronunciation and with preparing presentations in Spanish. As for hobbies and interests, I am a runner, a baseball enthusiast and have true passion for international affairs/ education issues and I enjoy live music and performing arts.
I hold a BA from UMass Amherst in Political Economy and MS from Brooklyn College in Mathematics Education, both summa cum laude. I am currently attending NYU Wagner, working on my Masters in Public Administration with a concentration in Education Policy.I have been a NYC DOE math teacher for the past four years, three years as a 6th- 8th grade math teacher and my last year teaching Algebra, Geometry/Trig and Health. I have taught classes ranging from advance placement to remedial, including CCT and ESL. I absolutely believe that every student can succeed in math. My approach to teaching/tutoring is building confidence through math. Often times, I have students who say they "don't get it." However, I show them they may not get the whole picture yet, but they do have an understanding of some. And by showing them tangible steps they can use time and again, students see they can "get it". Those "ah-ha" moments are not only building blocks in their skills, but more importantly, reinforcing who they are and their abilities. For my students who already have confidence in their math ability, it is about pushing them to the next level. Math is about problem solving, puzzles and thinking outside the box. By presenting problems within their skillset but slightly beyond their experience, it allows for the imaginary side of math to emerge while preparing them to approach a new problem with confidence. As the Math Department Head of my school, I have an intricate understanding of math standards for 6th- 12th grade, as well as the new Common Core Standards being piloted through NYC this year. This knowledge paired with my classroom understanding has been key to not only preparing my students for their current grade but really hone in what knowledge they will really need for the next sequential math classes. Recognized as a DOE Honors Teacher, I have prepared students for various standardized test, Regents, AP and SATs with great results. Grading the DOE math exams for 3-8th grade, Algebra and Math A/B Regents has given me the knowledge as to what the state looks for as well.Math has always been my favorite subject. It pains me when a student says they hate math because it usually means they encountered a past teacher who cared more about "the right answer" then the multiple approaches to understanding the answer.
I adapt my teaching style to the student's needs. I am a very patient and empathetic person and work well with students of all ages and backgrounds. My educational background includes a Ph.D. in applied research and evaluation in psychology and I have applied this knowledge to tutor underserved students in a college tutoring center.
I want to be the teacher who makes a difference in your child's life. Over my 30 years of teaching and tutoring grades one through eight in reading and math, I have developed strategies, methods, and "tricks" to help students learn and remember the academic skills that they need to be successful. My love to teach + patience + teaching experience = the perfect tutor for your child and you. If your child needs enrichment or remediation, it would be my pleasure to work with him/her and hear those words that always make me smile, "That's it? That's easy!" Just as it is your goal, it is also my goal for your child to make progress and feel more comfortable and confident in school.
I have been tutoring students of all ages for almost a decade. Working one on one and in small groups is something I am very comfortable with, and something I enjoy. I work with each student to find individual strategies to improve.
I'm a law student and long time tutor who's just made the move to Varsity. I've been tutoring for about eight years now, since I first started working with a friend of a friend's child on his SATs. I graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in economics, and I'm at Hofstra Law School. I tutor the SATs, ACTs, LSAT, GRE, basically all high school subjects, and a bevy of college ones, including history, psychology, economics, law, and writing. That's not because I'm an expert in everything - it's because the only thing I enjoy more than learning is helping someone else learn. A good tutor doesn't just explain the subject to you - they explain what's cool about it, how it applies to your life, and why you want to learn it. If I have to brush up on my AP Chemistry as an excuse to explain why dimensional analysis is actually the most useful math you'll ever learn, I find it thrilling, not a chore. That's really my whole paradigm, as a tutor. Every subject has a relation to both everyday life, and to the coolest parts of the collective achievements of humanity. Learning not just what Pi is, but what it means, is treading the same ground as the people who built the pyramids. We lose that joy - the enrichment granted by greater understanding - too often in sterile and boring classrooms. My goal is to help students attain mastery by providing the context and tools that let them have "Eureka!" moments. Learning is fun, and tutoring is more than just being a living wikipedia article. It's giving life to the dry and soulless problem set, making fun of the trap answers on the LSAT, and linking history to its greatest stories. I don't need gimmicks and games to make that happen. I just find where a student and I can connect over the material, how they learn, and what they're having trouble with. I won't guarantee anyone a score on a test or promise that everyone can get an A in every subject. But I do promise not to waste anyone's time or money. Every session, my students will learn new facts, new techniques, or new ways to understand some boring idea. That's not because I'm the smartest guy in the room: it's because I simply love seeing people learn.
Hey there! My name is Hamza, and I studying in the BA/MD program, and Macaulay Honors College at Brooklyn College. I hope to go to medical school and become a doctor, in addition to being a business major.I went to high school in Long Island, where I graduated with 13 APs, an advanced regents diploma, and honors societies. I have always loved to challenge myself.I have been private tutoring for quite some time now. I have worked for other companies as well, and can therefore assist in multiple subjects.
Mathematics is a fundamental tool for understanding and exploring the real world.
I graduated from high school at Fordham Preparatory School in 2010 and am currently taking a semester off before my final year at the Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Brooklyn. I am working towards two bachelors degrees: a BFA in Creative Writing and a BA in Psychology. My first tutoring experience was in my senior year of high school during which I tutored juniors who wanted extra help preparing for the AP Language and Composition exam, which I had taken the previous year. In college I have helped students struggling with general essay-writing and specific English courses—mainly writing-intensive courses but in some cases literature classes as well. I have tutored students, including some non-native speakers, who struggled with essay-writing and grammar, syntax, and usage issues. My favorite subject to tutor was definitely AP Language and Composition mostly because of my interest in the subject itself. A lot of students know how to write a good essay but really struggle with this particular AP material because it requires you to take a step back and dissect the specific methods and structures at play in a given passage presented at random. Being able to put one's finger on the precise rhetorical methods that go into a strong piece of writing is really an enlightening experience. As far as my personal tutoring style, I prefer to provide students with the guidance and practice necessary to understand each individual facet of a given subject until they feel completely comfortable with the material on their own. I find it very important to avoid overwhelming students with the big picture of something like an SAT or AP exam and prefer to break down the material into manageable pieces which, once mastered, will allow the student to excel at the subject as a whole.Besides my academic pursuits, I enjoy going to shows for local bands in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and I participate in a bi-monthly poetry reading presented by a group with whom I workshop my personal writing projects. I spend a decent amount of time reading poetry and fiction when left to my own devices, but I also have a weakness for television and may just as likely be found catching up on reality shows.
I am a student before all, this opportunity to tutor is not unique to this. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from CUNY Brooklyn College. There I learned what it meant to look after my fellow student as a peer mentor. I went on to learn what it meant to teach during my time as a service learner, where I tutored students I middle school among duties. While I enjoy tutoring I am most passionate about English and Psychology as not only do I have the most history in, I am biased as they are what outlines my career aspirations. Outside of education I enjoy reading, playing video games, HEMA long sword practice, and cooking.
I prioritize creating a strong relationship between the student and family in order to align with your goals. I can provide tailored and differentiated intervention using my knowledge from a Masters in Education to meet your academic needs. Let's discuss how I can best support you.
