I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Eastern Illinois University. I graduated in 1994 and have endorsements in 6-12 Social Studies and History. I am currently considered to be a highly qualified teacher by the state of Arizona and also have an SEI (Structured English Immersion) K-12 endorsement. I have experience tutoring both junior high and high school students. Last summer I tutored seven junior high students in Reading and Writing for four hours a day during the month of June. I also currently tutor 35 high school students in Social Studies, English, Science, and Health using computer-based curriculum at an online high school. I also tutor a "5th Hour" class each day that focuses on English and Math prep for the Arizona state-mandated AIMS test that all high school students must pass to graduate. In this class we use word problems which students focus on breaking down grammatically to then solve them mathematically. The students also have an opportunity to create their own word problems each week and then "teach" the class how to solve the problem they've created. I have been an educator for over 18 years and enjoy helping students reach their academic goals and teaching them character education as well to give them the skills they need to be successful and highly productive adults. When I am not educating students I enjoy reading fiction novels (most notably from John Grisham, Stuart Woods, and Stephen King), playing sports such as golf, basketball, football, and tennis, and working out at the gym with friends. I also enjoy spending time with my wife of 11 years, our newborn daughter, and our Shitzu-Poodle.

I am a graduate of Eastern Illinois University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on Science. Since graduation, I have worked as a substitute teacher, raised a family, and taught extensively online. During this time I also tutored children of various ages in math, social studies, and science. Hello, I am Gwendolyn. I am interested in helping students of all ages with their schoolwork so that they can succeed. I first began tutoring in junior high as a volunteer. I assisted students with their homework. After obtaining a B.S. in Psychology, I worked as an instructional assistant at a Sp. Ed. school for children with learning and behavioral difficulties called Springer School and Center. I helped students with their classwork, specifically in math. In this job experience, I also had the opportunity to tutor students after school. In the summer of 2025, I obtained an M.S. in School Psychology. I had a practicum where I utilized various strategies to help students with their reading, writing, and math work. As a practicum student, I also implemented a lesson plan to help students with their sight words. I created my own worksheets to help the students with the lesson plan. While working at Springer and completing graduate school, I gained a great deal of experience with behavioral management. For instance, I worked as a counselor in the Cleveland Clinic's ADHD Summer Treatment Program for two summers. There, I worked with children with ADHD and behavioral difficulties. I utilized reinforcement to increase appropriate behaviors and punishment for inappropriate behaviors via a token economy. As a tutor, I would welcome working with children with ADHD or other learning/focusing challenges. As your personalized tutor, I can assist with homework and help students with writing formal papers. Throughout college, I learned how to write scientific and formal papers. I can help all-age students with brainstorming ideas, finding sources, and properly citing and formatting papers. My goal as an educator is to promote a positive appreciation for education, especially the subject of mathematics.For the past ten years I have, in varying capacities, been involved with teaching or tutoring mathematics at the middle school to post-secondary levels. Growing up with both parents as teachers at the secondary and higher education levels, I have had a passion for academia from a very young age. While concurrently in law school, I became involved in higher education at the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign where for two years I instructed my own classrooms of university students in courses on written and oral communication at a variety of skill levels.In addition to law and oral and written communications, I am passionate about foreign languages and traveling to new and exotic places. A polyglot, I speak English, French, German and Turkish and am educated from the Universite de Bourgogne in French language and culture. I continue to expand my own foreign language education and am preparing for my DALF exam, the highest level of French proficiency certification available to non-native speakers.I look forward to sharing my passions in the law, oral and written communication, and languages with my students to help them discovery their own potentials.

I enjoy working with different types of students and helping them achieve their goals. I have my teaching certificate in Elementary Education from Benedictine University. I did my clinicals with 1st and 3rd graders in Reading and Math, and my student teaching in 2nd grade. I have also volunteered in a first grade classroom helping with Writing.
