Since graduating from FAU, I've worked with homeless and foster youth in New York. Then, I traveled to California where I worked with AmeriCorps to counsel and tutor high school students in underserved communities. I am a proud advocate of education. To me, knowledge is power. With being a poet, I have a natural love and appreciation for words. This converted into my interest in English and Literature. Currently, I am a 6th grade Language Arts teacher. I teach a range of students who require me to be versatile in my teaching methods. I believe every student should receive all the help they need in order to truly be the best student they can be. Art, and technology studies have always been a part of my life; the former, as far back as when I was a teenager, and the later almost as late as college.very well into my professional career I've noticed that people with talents like mine, doesn't always have an opportunity to grow or express their gifts. Even into my college history I have discovered that many of the things I have learned, I did so much later in life than I would like.it made it no less satisfying to learn it, but I often wonder what development my path would have taken had I been exposed to these resources, skills, and educational opportunities earlier. It is because of that reason that remain plugged into educational avenues for learners like I was and do what I can to help their creative giant to grow, as early as possible.for the 13-year-old that became me, who used to draw comic book characters, transferred myself into many a Saturday morning cartoon, and can't wait to use the next tech tool to design something creative..and the learner destined to surpass him.

Hi there! I'm Rajah-Nee, but feel free to call me Rue. I know it's much easier to pronounce.I've been tutoring since I was 14. In no way, shape, or form was I experienced or professional at the time, but I knew what was a hit and a miss and didn't shy away from conveying the positives and negatives to my students.Over the years, I perfected my teaching style, which involves discussion of concepts and mechanics in a concise and friendly manner. I use examples that most people can relate to (such as shopping) or have knowledge of (such as what a dog is and looks like), so that my students aren't confused or overwhelmed by things they don't know, which affects comprehension of the concepts.I am a tutor that puts the needs of my student first while also setting them up for success, so they will not run into similar obstacles in the future no matter the demands of the subject.

Growing up, kids like to pretend they're going to be doctors or professional athletes or astronauts. I wanted to be a teacher. I'm not even kidding - I had my own classroom in my garage where the neighborhood students came. This started in third grade and continued into middle school. I would find out what they knew, teach them a lesson, and then assign them homework. I would tell (tattle) their parents if they didn't do the work. My first parent/ teacher conferences were held at my neighbor's house in their living room. I assessed my friend Doug's progress in math, which was dreadful from what I remember, and gave pointers on how he could use flashcards to increase his fluency. And yes, I used the word fluency. I feel that my teaching philosophy can best be explained with an adage that I was introduced to in another position: Keep the student at the center of every decision you make. This guides my planning and instruction every single day. I remember that students are the reason I am here, and the "easy" approach for me may not be what is best for them. My aim is to make sure that my students understand the material, which requires me to assess mastery in a variety of manners. There is no one way to teach or assess a student, so, as a teacher, I cannot give up. I enjoy being innovative and spending my free time researching new technologies or approaches to a subject. It is my goal to always be a student of my field so I do not forget a student's mentality. Students should be able to also apply information from my class to their outside lives. It is my hope that they feel empowered after gaining skills in my course so that they can better their lives, as well as the world. My students do not just learn how to write; they learn how powerful writing can influence those in control. They see the power in words and want to use them rather than have to use them. Discussions take on a life of their own as I carefully poke at their logic to make them use their critical thinking skills. We do not just turn in a paper and move on - we use those same skills, but apply them in different ways all throughout the course. Language is life, and we need to learn control over it to succeed.

Learning is one of the most exciting things and I try to show students how much fun learning can be. I love working with students of all abilities and have helped several of my classmates through high school and college when they were struggling. Seeing the excitement on their faces when they "get it" is so rewarding for both teacher and student. I received my bachelor's degree in creative writing from Full Sail University. There I wrote flash fiction, short stories, TV scripts, game scripts, and transmedia campaigns. The subjects I tutor are English and composition. I love to write, and I love to pass that love on to students. As I said earlier, learning should be exciting and that is what I try to do when I tutor. I am laid back and will use several methods to ensure the student understands our lessons. Outside of tutoring, I love to read. Even as a child, if I earned a reward for something, I would choose to get a book. I also love to draw both by hand and computer aided. And I love spending time with my beagle, Harley. When I'm not working with students or on personal projects, I also enjoy playing video games.

Auto Biography and Self-AssessmentI was born Michael Scott Hull. However, I am one of those people who is referred to by his middle name, Scott. I have taught studio art at Daytona State College where for over five years. I truly enjoy teaching in higher education as well as sharing in the creative journey with my students. I have done workshops at other colleges and demonstrated at several high school mentoring programs. I am a constant learner, I continue to challenge myself in order to gain inspiration and it helps to maintain my work ethic. The reason my style is so diverse.I have to constantly familiarize myself with the up and coming trends. However, I must say that I gravitated toward more trending computer based technology that can offer visual engagements as well as inventive interactions. Currently I am developing a work flow for a gesture based navigation and manipulation for polygon sculpting using such tools as Zbrush and Leap Motion. The technique will allow for a functional pottery technique to be instructed, mastered, and reproduced within a digital arena. Having this ability will allow distance learners to utilizing an online learning management system to gain a studio art degree in 3D.What I want for the future of the studio art?I want to be able to build a sustainable program within the digital arena for the arts. As we move away from the brick and mortar style of teaching many of the face-to- face art programs will be subjected to loss. I currently instruct many me-diums within studio art and I believe in its importance, which in turns motivates my need in solidifying a new approach. Implementing more engaging and current digital media allows for students to gain a sustainable education in areas such gaming, education, training, marketing, as well as medical. After all what use is it to become a plastic surgeon without the ability to sculpt and recreate the human form with beauty. How could a lab technician recognize small molecules and/or bacteria without a design-oriented foundation? There are many new approaches for the future of fine art but it must be taken seriously not as a craft/hobby but an essential eye to muscle training of technique and design. What is Interesting about myself? An interesting fact about myself is I am lifelong surfer and I live a rock's throw away from the ocean. My entire family surfs so you can imagine what a magical experience it can be. My wife delivers babies and I have four beautiful children(out of the house now) I also have 3 dogs and 2 cats.
