I just graduated from Pomona College, in east Los Angeles, and I grew up in northern California and Beijing, China. In college, I majored in English and Philosophy/Politics/Economics, but I am passionate about a variety of subjects including math and Mandarin Chinese. Outside of class, I interviewed prospective applicants in the Pomona College Admissions Office and tutored my peers through the writing center. My tutoring philosophy is that boosting confidence and interest in a subject will lead to your success. As a liberal arts school graduate, I know the struggles and joys of learning across multiple disciplines: I want to help you learn the same strategies that have made me successful.Feel free to contact me to see if I'm a good fit for your student's needs!

I am a graduate of Pomona College, where I majored in Neuroscience. I am preparing to apply to medical school and hope to continue working with kids as a pediatrician.I have over 7 years of tutoring and mentoring experience, working with students from 2nd to 12th grade. I am passionate about working with students and being able to connect with them as a near-peer. My goal is to help each and every student I work with find the academic subject that sparks their passion for learning. Being a visual learner myself, I have always had to create tools, draw pictures, or make games for myself in order to learn, and I bring that to my tutoring style. I truly believe that any student has the capacity to learn and excel in academics--it's up to the tutor/teacher to find a creative way to teach! The sciences are my specialty, as evidenced by my college major as well as my medical school preparation, but I have worked with students in all academic areas, from English/Language Arts to the college application process, as well as SAT prep.In my free time, I love hiking, traveling, and cooking.
After graduating from undergrad in California I came to Austin and in the two years I have been here I have started a professional acting career in films, plays, commercials and other fun arenas. I love teaching and learning in just about any subject but I am most fond of languages, literature History - there's just so much humanity and adventure and passion and awesomeness and...we'll you catch my drift :) I have taught and tutored children as young as 5 up through college aged folk as well. My parents are both professors so I guess I was bitten at an early age with the education bug. Like them, I think that the keys to unlocking the most fruitful learning experiences are: Patience, Passion and Listening - on the both the part of the student and the instructor. Its my pleasure to inspire and stir these qualities in a learning environment. The interdisciplinary nature of acting is something that carries over into my tutoring so if we are studying Spanish there is good chance music will make it into our lessons OR if we are looking at History food, culture or travel may well be part of what we look at, etcetera. When I run into free time I love to play classical guitar, listen to music, watch a play/film/TV program or write songs.
I am passionate about helping students because everyone deserves to find joy in learning, and my goal is to make learning engaging and accessible for all. In high school, I tutored middle school students in math and expanded my tutoring in college to include high schoolers and college students. While my primary focus is math, I have also taught a poetry class, tutored Spanish speakers in English, and worked on reading and writing skills. This diverse experience has equipped me to adapt to various learning styles and needs. I earned my BA in Mathematics from Pomona College and attended a magnet high school focused on math and science. My strong educational background helps me tailor my teaching methods to individual needs. In my sessions, I pause to ask questions, ensuring comprehension and engagement, and offer multiple ways to process information, whether visually, through real-world examples, or storytelling. My approach fosters a collaborative environment where I learn from students as much as they learn from me. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, outdoor walks, cooking, and spending time with my family. These activities keep me grounded and bring a balanced, patient perspective to my life. I look forward to helping students achieve their academic goals and making learning a rewarding experience.
With over five years of teaching and tutoring experience worldwide, and more than fifteen years working with children, I bring both expertise and passion to education. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in History from Pomona College, with a focus on the history of Africa and the African Diaspora. My dedication to education has been a constant throughout my extensive travels. I've researched the impact of education in post-genocide Rwanda, assisted high school students in Nepal with college admissions essays, taught business English to hotel staff in China, and worked as a preschool teacher in Taiwan. I have experience teaching English Language Arts, phonics, grammar, English conversation, elementary math, and beginner Chinese. However, reading and writing remain my favorite subjects. As a tutor, my top priority is understanding each student's unique needs, background, and talents. This enables me to tailor lessons for success, ensuring students leave each session with a sense of accomplishment and greater confidence. My hope as a tutor is to be a source of continuous support and encouragement for all my students. I value open, honest communication with families. By working together, we can ensure that students receive the guidance and encouragement they need to thrive. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy reading, baking cinnamon rolls, and spending time with my dog.
I am a credentialed teacher with ten years of experience. I have an M.A. in Teaching from USC (Multiple Subject/K-6) and a B.A. in Music from Pomona College. I have taught individual and group violin lessons from age 3 to adults throughout L.A., and I have taught general music in the Lawndale School District and at YOLA (Youth Orchestra L.A.) at HOLA (Heart of LA youth center in the Rampart District). I student-taught in general elementary school classrooms (2nd and 5th grade), and have tutored students at YOLA.No matter what the subject, my focus has always been on finding the unique strengths of each individual student, and building on those strengths to approach areas of struggle. I enjoy working with students with diverse learning styles and discovering the unique ways each student takes in and understands information. I firmly believe that everyone is smart in their own way, and I love to discover and appreciate each student's way of learning and thinking. I believe that we all construct our own knowledge through experience - we learn by doing, by experimenting, trying, and experiencing - and I encourage my students to try out and adjust their own strategies, instead of always expecting them to do it my way.I am an artist, writer and musician (I led a folk band for 5 years). I am an avid public transit rider and often get around by bicycle. I enjoy gardening and I am passionate about building community.
I graduated from Pomona College with a major in Neuroscience and am planning to become a neurological physical therapist. In school, I particularly enjoyed learning about the biological sciences and art. I love to draw and always try to find fun ways to integrate visual learning into my tutoring sessions. I also have experience with the ACT and GRE standardized tests and would love to assist any student who is trying to prepare for success on either. Standardized tests are a drag but studying for them doesn't have to be! I love ice cream and comics and am excited to start working and learning with students in the LA area.
My name is Yanai Elijah Feldman. I studied Mathematics at Pomona College, and along the way I found myself helping peers through the subjects that tend to feel most intimidating. One of my greatest gifts is sincerity. The I Ching the ancient Chinese book of wisdom associates sincerity with the very nature of teaching. I think about that often, because it rings true for me. I don't just tutor to share knowledge. I teach because it's how I learn about relationship, about people, about myself. I was lucky from high school through college, I had real math educators. People who didn't just get through the material, but actually understood it from the inside out. That shaped everything about how I think about teaching. I'll be honest: I'm not great at writing persuasive bios. What I can tell you is that I genuinely care, and that I'm here to build something real with you. When I tutor someone, I'm not filling an hour I'm trying to understand who you are, how you think, and what yo
I am a graduate of Pomona College, where I received my B.A. in Linguistics. I love languages and grammar, and I enjoy helping others figure out the puzzles of how English and other languages work. I was a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Turkey, where I taught English to university students. I have experience with students of all ages as a tutor at Upward Bound and local community organizations. I have also worked as an American Literature teacher at Breakthrough Twin Cities, where my favorite part of the job was seeing my students excited about what they were reading. I tutor a wide range of subjects, but I especially enjoy tutoring language and reading. I believe that with the right support, students can improve and succeed in any area. In my free time, I like to bake, ride my bike, and play the ukulele.
I am a rising senior at Pomona College, a small liberal arts college in California, majoring in Public Policy Analysis with a concentration in Economics and a minor in Mathematics. Born and raised just outside of Minneapolis, I am excited to be tutoring in the area. I've studied a variety of topics over the course of my academic career, but I feel especially confident in my knowledge base and tutoring ability in math, history, and standardized testing (especially the ACT).Over the past few years, I have been involved with an organization that teaches financial literacy in high school classrooms and have tutored a small group of high school students on topics such as credit cards, bank accounts, and budgeting. When tutoring, I focus on creating a friendly and comfortable environment to enable student success, and then ensuring every activity we do helps lead to that success.
I am a lifelong learner, eldest brother, musician, artist, former camp counselor and working tutor. Born and raised in New York City, I studied at Pomona College in Los Angeles and spent a semester in Madrid, worked for a few years in Miami at a Latin American technology company and have recently moved to the Detroit area to pursue music more seriously. My education has always reflected my diverse and strong interest across disciplines. My liberal arts undergraduate education focused rigorously on the humanities delving deeply into critical thinking and writing. Through this I have always maintained a logical methodical style of thinking required to understand and guide through math and science.Working as a tutor allows me to continue to share my passion for learning. I still vividly remember the experience of studying for standardized tests, applying to college or simply working through weekly problem sets. Though it may seem tough at times, I hope to always maintain the larger picture and demonstrate where the hard work can lead.I look forward to working with you!
I have always been a passionate learner. I have a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics Economics from Pomona College in Claremont, California and am working on my Masters in International Affairs at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs in the City of New York. I have also taught accelerated mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus BC) at the Episcopal School of Los Angeles and economics as a high school elective. Over the past few years of teaching and tutoring, I found great joy in developing that passion in other students. My favorite subject to tutor is upper level mathematics (Algebra II and beyond). This is when the true beauty of mathematics is explored and mathematics begins to have important applications, including what to what I do in international security! I stride to provide a student with creative materials and explanations that best suits their learning style. I am not someone who is satisfied when a student memorizes steps to solve a problem. I always want the student to understand what he/she is doing and why they are doing. This insight will make them a stronger, faster and better student, particularly in the field of mathematics. This brings the student long term results that could extend far beyond the work done in the tutoring sessions. Mathematics is my love and economics is my passion and because of this I bring incredible enthusiasm for the subject to my work. I bring the beauty of mathematics into my explanations, through theoretical and visual interpretations. In my spare time I like to paint and run.
