In 2016 I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics from Susquehanna University. This past year, I have been teaching Geometry and Physics at the high school level. In addition, I worked with children as young as first graders as a math resource teacher.On top of my year of teaching experience, I have been tutoring friends in math since my sophomore year of high school, but have tutored through Susquehanna for three years. I also was a secondary mathematics education major for several years before deciding to change my course and look at graduate programs in mathematics. Thus, I have a lot of experience differentiating instruction for the diverse needs to students. I have also worked with many different age groups, from first graders to non-traditional university students. I have a genuine passion for mathematics and that passion helps my students see math in a new light.Throughout my experience tutoring, I have covered Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Algebra-based Physics, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, Introductory Statistics and Probability, Linear Algebra, and Abstract Algebra. In addition, I am very familiar with several other mathematics subjects and I am more than willing to expand my teaching experience by working with students in subjects that I have not yet had the opportunity to tutor.

Teaching physics in an effective, accessible, and exciting way is one of my passions, a passion I have developed over 7 years of experience. As a Physics PhD candidate at Tulane University I effectively communicated physics to students from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds, earning excellent evaluations at the end of each semester. I have taught physics to non-physics majors with no prior experience with physics, pre-med majors who were new to college physics courses, and physics and engineering majors at the graduate level. I believe it is possible to teach students how to solve homework problems and prepare for exams while simultaneously allowing the learner to see and feel the concepts they are learning in everyday life.

I am a retired math teacher who taught in the public school system for 38 years. I earned my Bachelors degree from Susquehanna University in mathematics and I earned my Masters Degree in education from West Chester University. My goal is to develop confidence in the students who struggle with mathematics and teach them strategies on how to approach a problem which they do not understand. I also want to empower my students with a variety of approaches on how to solve a problem. Mathematics has many rules which students need to know and be able to apply. Students need to learn the concepts because every problem is different.

I am a graduate in International Studies and French Language, and as an accomplished writer, researcher, and communicator, I look forward to sharing my love of language and the written word with you. I have experience teaching French that ranges from the primary-school to the University level, and would be more than happy to accept students of any age or skill level. I have studied in France, and my intimacy with both the language and the culture can certainly help to enrich and immerse students. I am also qualified to help with standardized test prep, focusing on practice in the reading, writing, and verbal sections. I believe language, whether foreign or our first, is the most important tool we have. Therefore, learning and progressing should be an important, yet enjoyable process. I started my teaching career as a Science Teacher right after graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology. I moved on to teaching ESL to adults and earned my Master's Degree in English. I have four-plus years of teaching and training both adults and children, and am currently pursuing my Masters in Teaching. I enjoy tutoring students one-on-one as it lets me give undivided attention to my students and witness significant student growth. With my technology background and experience teaching multiple subjects to a wide range of students, my teaching style is versatile and flexible. I love bringing real world applications into my lessons, and also drawing connections across different subjects. I believe that memory retention is higher when students can relate to what they learn and apply it in their own lives. From my experience, I have learned that there are different kinds of learners, and to be effective you have to modify your teaching style according to the needs of your students. I see 'teaching' as 'knowledge sharing' and make an effort to get to know my students. With every teaching or tutoring assignment, I learn as much as I teach. This aspect of teaching is the most rewarding.

I graduated from Susquehanna University with a degree in English- Literature and a minor in legal studies. I will be starting my first year of law school at Willamette University College of Law and to become a lawyer. I have a strong background in English, including; reading, writing, editing, and comprehension skills. I feel that tutoring students is important and can truly make a difference. I have worked with children of all ages and backgrounds, including volunteering with the Special Olympics for several years. I've been a struggling student myself, and understand that having a tutor or mentor who believes in you and your potential is invaluable. I received my BA in Writing from Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. I received my MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, at the University of Iowa. Between undergrad and graduate school, I lived in Portland, OR, and worked for education-oriented nonprofits. At an organization called Free Geek, I taught volunteers how to build computers in a workshop-style setting. This experience laid the foundation for my teaching style in the more traditional academic settings. It taught me that the most important aspect of understanding a complex concept, is first, demystifying it. Building a computer or writing an argumentative essay isn't scary or hard; they just need to be broken down into smaller parts, and then anyone can do it.In Portland, I also worked with under-served high school and college age students to help them to achieve their educational, personal, and professional goals. A large part of this was English tutoring and helping students, almost exclusively English Language Learners, to write and revise essays for their coursework. This was a very important and gratifying work for me. I learned a lot about what kinds of teaching strategies were being used in the classrooms that my students were in and realized that I could improve upon them greatly, if I could just make the subject matter interesting and relatable.For the past two years, I have been teaching Interpretation of Literature and Creative Writing Workshop to undergraduate students. I am proud to say that my student evaluations were consistently positive.I have a deep love for literature and writing that I am excited to share with students. I can help with literature, reading strategies, comprehension, essay writing, and essay revision.

Learning is a daily endeavor, no? I have always been a student. I was, in fact, a student who needed one-on-one instruction throughout high school. I had the same math tutor for all four years and I think of her every time I tutor a student. She was kind, patient and empathetic. She was not arrogant and she welcomed my learning style by modifying her lessons so I could grasp difficult concepts without the stress of a noisy classroom--she taught me how to reduce distraction, listen constructively and to relax and allow the learning process to reach my brain. I began tutoring writing, English and Spanish my first year of undergraduate studies and I have been tutoring ever since.I first taught Spanish to university students in 1998 while serving as a teaching assistant at the University of New Hampshire. Independently building and instructing a novice Spanish class while being challenged as a student transformed my perceptions of both roles. I feel as though my varied experiences in different areas of secondary education, my background in and passion for effective instructional strategies, and my work in the school community have provided me with a strong foundation to tutor and mentor young individuals. I am a graduate of Susquehanna University where I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the field of History. At the same time I received a second degree in Secondary Education. Directly out of college I started teaching at Wissahickon High School. Over the past 10 years I have taught numerous courses, including European History, US History, World History, and Political Science. I have taught all levels of those courses. In that time I have also taken a strong passion for the writing process and mentor a lot of students outside of my class with their writing and analytic skills. Since teaching at Wissahickon, I have obtained two Master's degrees. One in Instructional and Developmental Strategies from Wilkes University, and a second in K-12 Educational Administration. Over the past few years I have tutored students from other public and private schools in Political Science, Economics, and AP US History.

I recently graduated with my PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of Pittsburgh. While conducting research I enjoyed mentoring younger students in the lab to get excited about science and learn new concepts.

While in college, I served as Student Government President, Slam Poetry Club President, received all-conference softball honors, and was selected as the Outstanding Woman of the Year for my graduating class.I then spent two years teaching Reading, Remedial English, Religious Studies, History, and Service Learning at a private middle school in Massachusetts. I also ran the school's Slam Poetry Club, and coached both softball and volleyball.While teaching full-time in Massachusetts, I earned my Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification from the Boston Language Institute.I then moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, where I spent two years teaching ESL to students from grade one to grade twelve. In addition to this, I worked as a private home teacher for two young learners. In my free time, I was a volunteer CrossFit kids coach.I am now in the final months of my MA in Conflict Transformation and Social Justice at Queen's University Belfast. While living in Belfast, I have volunteer facilitated creative writing workshops for young people, served as a youth mentor at a local community centre, worked as a Reading Mentor for youth in foster care, and run the social media channels for my university's Humanities department.My tutoring style revolves around building a student's confidence in their abilities, regardless of the subject matter. I make every effort to build rapport with my students in order to better understand their strengths, weaknesses, and goals.
