I am a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. I received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree with focus on robotics. I am due to graduate this December with a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from Tarleton State University. I have several years of experience in higher education. In my two years at Tarleton State University I have taught various levels of college algebra. I have also taught at ITT Technical Institute for two years, covering many electronics and programming classes. I enjoy helping students to see difficult subjects like mathematics and programming in a different light, making the material a little less scary and a lot more understandable.
To help fellow students and to ultimately make the world a smarter place. My name is Marcus and I graduated from Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of science in biology and a minor in business management. I have been a full time student almost my entire life and i feel like not all teachers are fully understood and that tutors have the ability to provide an extra service to students to better help them understand what exactly they cannot comprehend from their teacher or professor. I hope that i can make things clearer and bring topics into better perspective for those who become students of mine.
My reason for teaching is to share what knowledge I have gained and to help other people learn. I am not an educator if I simply give out information; I am only a teacher if someone learns. I feel that it is my responsibility to present material in such a manner that students can do well. The material must be presented with enthusiasm, clarity, and an awareness of the level of understanding of the students. All too often instructors present material at their level of understanding and forget that their knowledge has come with years of exposure to a particular field. A question or concept that may be very familiar to an instructor is unknown to a student who has just begun to learn. I try my best to avoid what I may perceive as a small jump in logic because it often becomes a tremendous leap for the students. My responses to questions have a variety of sophistication. I attempt to provide gradually decreasing vagueness as I answer a question. While a student is looking for "the answer", I try to never answer a question on the first iteration. Their question is often met with a little bit of background and a question for them to explore. This may occur several times before student satisfaction is achieved, but they have had to answer their own question when the process is over. Every aspect of my teaching style is meant to provide positive reinforcement to assure students that their questions and contributions are valued and important to their learning.
I believe all students, regardless of age or ability, should be "met where they are" and treated with respect.Goals, both big and small, must be set. Victories, regardless of size, must be celebrated. Only then can true learning occur. If I am working with a college level Writing student, it is important to me that they gain the skills they need. Like all true teachers, my goal is to get you to be able to do it without me.The same is true if I am working with an elementary student on Math skills.
I'm a graduate of Tarleton State University. I received BS degrees in both psychology and economics, as well as my MBA. I've spent the last 9.5 years tutoring college and high school students in an assortment of different subjects. While I have extensive experience in everything from calculus, to English, to United States history, I'm most passionate about economics and accounting. These were the courses that sparked my interest the most in my early university days, so it makes me happy to help facilitate that "lightbulb" moment for others. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing someone "get it" after having struggled with a given topic. In my free time, I enjoy playing my guitar and watching basketball.

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. I believe that teaching is more than a job, more than a career; it is a calling. Making a difference in the lives of others is important to me. I can't think of another job that offers that opportunity as much as teaching.

I love seeing that light-bulb moment on a student's face when they finally get math. Unfortunately math gets a bad rap for being hard and complicated, but I believe that the learner has yet to figure out how to apply the math to their everyday lives. I live to show them that. I live to prove how interesting math really is, and how it is an integral part of everything that we do. When I teach or tutor a student, I like to give lots of encouragement. Students needing the help with math need their confidence built up and lots of encouragement and support.A little background on me: I graduated from Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a Texas teaching certification and a minor in English. I often get asked "Why English as a minor?" and my response is always the same: English as a minor shows that I have great communications skills on top of my existing math skills. While in college I tutored in the math clinic and was a supplemental instruction leader holding my own tutoring sessions outside the math clinic. I helped to tutor students in College Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Calculus I, II, & III.After graduating, I taught middle school and high school math including 7th grade math, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, AP Calculus. So to say that I love teaching math is definitely an understatement. I also love connecting math to my everyday life and hobbies. My hobbies include walking my dog, programming my Android phone, watching TV, and movies.

So, when I returned to Texas I decided to go back to school for a masters in secondary education with a teaching certificate. I am currently between semesters and working towards my goal of being able to teach and share my passion for wildlife, biology, and environmental sciences. I have the most experience with high school age and younger students, but I am always up for a student that will challenge me to learn and grow myself. I am an elementary teacher fresh out of college. I was drawn to education by my passion for guiding others in their learning. Every student deserves the opportunity to grow in their learning. I strive to be an advocate for all of my students meeting them exactly where they need. Due to being fresh out of college and high school I know what it is like to struggle with a subject and need an individual willing to take the time to teach me. I want to be that for others.
Hi! I'm a certified Texas teacher with 7 years of experience, specializing in 6th-8th grade Math and Algebra 1. I hold certifications in both Core Subjects and K12 Special Education, along with degrees in Agriculture Service & Development from Tarleton State and Christian Ministries from Liberty Theological Seminary. I've had the privilege of working with students of all learning styles and abilities, including those with behavioral challenges and autism. My approach is patient and supportive. I believe in breaking down tough concepts into everyday examples that students can connect with. One of my favorite ways to build confidence is by celebrating small wins and yes, sometimes that includes reminding students they're "cooking with peanut oil" (because if it's good enough for Chick-fil-A, it's good enough for math!). Tutoring gives me the joy of seeing effort turn into real progress. While math isn't always a student's favorite subject, I love showing them how useful it really is and that it can actually be fun. You can expect a relaxed, encouraging environment where I'll always do my best to help you succeed.
I am a US Navy veteran having served both active duty and in the reserves. I have job experience in policing, teaching high school, and as an athletic coach, but my life experience is more than that. I have a passion for helping others navigate through opportunities. I am a problem solver and believe that knowing what resources are available is the key to making informed decisions. I believe that education is the best foundation and something that can never be taken away. I take photos as a hobby and enjoy capturing life events such as graduation, weddings, sporting events, and more.
I believe that each child has a unique potential and in order for educators to help students reach that potential we cannot use a one size fits all method. I believe in getting to know student's interests and learning style in order to help them reach their goals.
