My degree is in mathematics but I also have a minor in statistical methods. I am also well versed in the Python programming language. In the past I have worked with college students struggling in early mathematics courses such as trigonometry, algebra and elementary statistics. While at my university I also worked with adult students pursuing a GED.Ultimately, mathematics is not about memorizing formulas but about the logical process of arriving at a conclusion. Ideally, my job will consist of reminding the student of the tools at their disposal and they will make the leap themselves towards their desired answer. This ability to think about problems is not limited to mathematics and, if mastered, will stay with the student for the rest of their lives.Aside from mathematics I enjoy playing my piano. I especially love playing music from movie, TV show and video game soundtracks.

LMT, MTI, NCBTMB with 18+ years in the massage therapy industry. I'm extremely passionate about helping other LMT's embark on their career journeys with confidence!!
In the past, I have had great experience working as an English tutor. I did one-on-one English tutoring with K-12 Chinese students and also taught classes of small sizes for four years. The subjects were mainly English reading and speaking. Also, I have taught English with college students for nine years and instructed them pass national English tests, TOEFL, and IELTS for two and a half years. In 2013-2014, I was accepted by a Fulbright program and taught Chinese at Truman State University. The content of my teaching was Chinese writing, grammar, speaking, and reading. All through these years, I really love working with my students. I have great patience and enthusiasm to motivate them in learning languages. I feel great joy and accomplished when I see my students make progress and achieve their goals with my help. As for teaching, I am always punctual and plan lessons carefully beforehand. Besides, I am very flexible in terms of adjusting my teaching methods to work with different students.
I've always been passionate about sharing knowledge with students. I love learning new things, and I really enjoy helping students do the same. The best part about helping students is that I learn new ideas from them as well!Being a teacher has been my goal since I was a kid. All through high school and college, I tutored students, mostly math topics. I also did some student teaching while earning my degree. Since then, I have had the chance to teach college courses along with tutoring students online. Right now I help with some online math courses targeted at students from other countries. It's been interesting seeing how other cultures approach mathematics.I earned a math degree from Truman State University. After that, I went to graduate school at the University of Missouri in Columbia.I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, and a masters degree in statisticsI tutor all levels of algebra, along My favorite subject to tutor is statistics. Every day we see statistics in the real world, and I like that I get to teach students how to interpret and analyze that information from a mathematical perspective.I recognize that some people really struggle with mathematics. Sometimes math can seem like learning a new language. As a tutor and instructor, my goal is to give students the tools needed to connect and build on ideas, rather than just memorizing formulas. I like to keep students involved by asking questions. I also want my students to ask me questions. Together we work together to put the ideas in the simplest terms.I enjoy activities that involve problem solving, like jigsaw puzzles. I also like baking treats, and eating them! Plus I'm a big fan of board games and trivia nights with friends.
I'm a recent graduate of Truman State University with a degree in economics. I discovered my major later in my college career, so I'm intimately familiar with what it's like to pick up new subjects quickly to get up to speed. My favorite courses have always been those that featured a strong writing and speaking component, as they allow for the deliberate exploration and then presentation of one's ideas. Thus, while I love economics, writing and public speaking will always be near and dear to my heart. The subjects I tutor include writing, college and high school economics, public speaking, and middle school reading. Outside of class, you can probably find me working as a bike mechanic, making coffee, or trail-running.
Getting students where they need to be in the academic world is one of my passions, because I had to work really hard in school as well to get where i really wanted to be. Let me motivate, tutor, and teach you in your learning style so that you can get over your own academic hurdles.
I am a public policy graduate student at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.I have been working with Varsity Tutors for 7 years, and my students have demonstrated improvement in test scores and class grades across subjects.I attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon, where I studied English, and wrote a thesis on female archetypes in Victorian literature.Additionally, I worked in the Reed College admissions office during my undergraduate studies, so I have a strong understanding of what colleges look for in prospective students.
Hello! My name is Stephanie. I am an opera singer and have years of experience with children, teenagers, and college students. I've worked in education both privately and in the college setting. I also have both a Bachelors from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO and a Masters degree in Voice Performance from Wichita State University in Wichita, KS. Hi, my name is Rachel and I am a certified high school and middle school science teacher. I am taking a break from the classroom, but available to tutor students during the week. I work with students from 6th grade up to graduate programs in their sciences, specifically biology and evolution, but I can often help in other sciences as well. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you amazing students. I'm also highly skilled in English/writing and literature and some history and social studies. I am good with special needs, neurodiverse children and adults, and can help in executive functioning as well as prepare for tests such as ACT/SAT exams. I would be thrilled for the opportunity to meet with new students and start helping them achieve their educational goals.
As a student who struggled my entire way through school, but ended up as a teacher after having wonderful teachers myself who took the time to help me learn the way I needed to be successful, I strive to help struggling students find their own level of success.
I graduated from Truman State University with a BA in Mathematics and a MA in Education. I taught 8th grade math for three years. I tutored students ranging from kindergarten to adult in math, reading, study skills, and test prep at a National learning center for seven years. I have been tutoring independently for three years. My current subjects include elementary and middle school math, pre-Algebra, Algebra Algebra 2, Geometry, study skills and ACT test prep. I want students to succeed and understand math. I relate new topics to what a student understands and build off of that. I am patient and I can usually find another way to explain something if a student is struggling with a concept. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our six children.
I am currently a pre-candidate in a chemistry doctoral program at the Univeristy of Michigan, receiving my Bachelor's of Science in chemistry from Truman State University. Having completed many science and math courses in my academic career, I understand how daunting such courses can be. With that in mind, I make it a personal goal to provide students that I instruct with tools to help them understand complex material and to also personalize material so that they are engaged in the subject matter (especially in the areas of math and science). Each student has a different learning style and it is important to help students find theirs so that they may become confident and, more importantly, independent. It is my belief that good tutors "teach themselves out of a job" as we should help students learn how to tackle hard concepts with their own skill-set and in so-doing students become less reliant on tutors. I have tutored for 3 years at the undergraduate level and taught swimming lessons for ages 3-18 for 7 years. Through these experiences I have garnered an immense passion for assisting others and I cannot wait to continue with this passion with you!
I am a professional teacher and writer with more than a decade of experience teaching students of all ages. I have a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in English as well as a Master of Education with a focus on teaching culturally and linguistically diverse and exceptional learners. I love learning new things and seeing the world, and I feel honored to share my experience and curiosity with my students.
I first started tutoring as a high school student. In order to earn free credit at the local community college, I volunteered to tutor middle school kids as a high schooler. When I went to college, I worked as a peer tutor in the Spanish Langauge lab at my University. I also decided to pursue a career in education. I currently work as a high school reading and English teacher!
I have my BS in English and MS in Learning Experience Design and Educational Technology. I am a certified K-12 Special Education teacher, and am currently in my ninth year of teaching. I co-teach 6th grade Math and ELA (classes for students with and without IEPs), and Resource ELA, Math, and Reading. I also work with students on behavior management, self-regulation, organizational skills, and social skills. While core subjects are important, I also put a lot of energy and emphasis on promoting a growth mindset. There truly is no learning without making mistakes, and that can be a very uncomfortable fact. I encourage students to be brave enough to make mistakes and work through learning from them. I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with you and help support your child in reaching their goals.
Mathematics major at Truman State University. I am happy to tutor all levels. Can't wait to hear from you!
Hello, my name is Emily and I am so excited to learn with you! I have been teaching professionally for 3 and a half years as an elementary teacher. Most recently I was teaching ESL for adults in Prague. I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Education. I have a passion for learning and teaching, especially English! I have taught reading, writing, and grammar. I am a certified teacher and I have taken the Praxis exams. I am highly qualified to help you with these exams. I love tutoring people of all ages. My philosophy is that the teacher should not be the one talking most of the time. The students should be leading the class and doing most of the speaking. Therefore, I make my class a warm, safe environment so that everyone feels comfortable learning together. I can't wait to meet you soon!
Something that has always interested me is that you can find math in all sorts of unexpected places. Math can help us to explain lots of relationships in subjects ranging from chemistry and biology to the humanities and even music! I think it's really important to be able to see these relationships and to understand the mathematics that govern them. If you're ready to nerd out about numbers, I'm ready to be your guide!I hold degrees in mathematics and music from Truman State University and Bowling Green State University.
I graduated this past May with a B.S. in Physics and minors in mathematics and astronomy from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. I am currently pursuing a M.S. in Data Analytics and Visualization from the Katz School at Yeshiva University in New York City, NY.I have experience tutoring math and physics for the past three years. I really enjoy helping students figure out how to learn. Having struggled with math in high school and working up to a degree in physics, I am someone who has gone through the process of learning how to learn myself. My tutoring style largely depends on each students strengths and unique way of thinking. I hope to encourage students to tap into their skills, mature their critical thinking, and heighten their creativity in problem solving using science and math.
I graduated from Truman State University in May 2014, with a degree in Psychology and dual minors in music and disability studies. While in college, I loved to help students of all ages succeed at the classes in which they were struggling most at. Watching things "click" for them gave me a joy, and I loved to watch them learn about themselves. Now that I have graduated, I was looking for ways to continue to tutor and came across Varsity Tutors. I love working through problems and helping students understand concepts, not just individual problems. I believe in starting at the basics, and ensuring that students know what they need to know.I have tutored students of all ages and abilities and feel confident in my knowledge to be able to teach. I have tutored 3-5 grade students in countless subjects at an after-school program, tutored college students in advanced science and math, and taught ACT prep classes (both to classes and individually) in all subjects. I currently work with adults with Autism, and have experience educating children with special needs. I have learned through my experience that enabling students and being patient are 2 very important skills to have when working with any student. My past year and a half has consisted of being a team leader for AmeriCorps, where I mentored 5-11 18-24 year olds and worked with 5 different non-profits. I also worked for Feed My Starving Children, where I honed my public speaking skills. I now work at Alternatives for People with Autism, working with adults with Autism. I recently moved to Minneapolis and I love it here! When I needed help in school, I was always embarrassed to ask. I don't want any student who I am helping feel embarrassed, belittled, or stupid. I will treat them as they would like to be treated, and work to help them succeed and feel confident in their abilities.
I am a graduate of Truman (undergraduate degree in Family Sciences), University of Missouri-St. Louis (teaching certificate), and Lindenwood University (master's in education). I also took 30 hours beyond my Master's degree in professional development courses through LaVerne University. Although I did my student teaching in elementary school, I have spent the last 27 years teaching middle school and high school Spanish. As a 6th grader I had the opportunity to travel to Ireland with my piano teacher and other piano students. We performed in two cities as well as got to see sites of the country. We stayed with families and got an up close and personal view of the people and their life. That was the beginning of my love of traveling. Since then, I have travelled to about twelve different countries. It is a passion of mine to learn about other cultures, traditions, languages, and people of different countries. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I have a special affinity for teaching Spanish. I enjoy sharing my love of the language with others through sharing my vast travel experiences. Regardless of what I may be teaching, it is important for me to not only teach through direct instruction but also allow students to acquire knowledge on their own through doing various activities, guided practice, games, and individual work. I try to keep students interested by making things fun. I give constant feedback so students know how they are doing and where they can improve. They will receive frequent constructive comments to help them learn and stay motivated. Since students may have different learning styles, I make sure to teach in different ways that work for that individual. I genuinely love to teach, and I believe my love comes across to the students. In my spare time, I enjoy learning other languages, doing volunteer work, dancing, playing with my pets, and doing various projects around the house including gardening.
